Daily News:

Misuse of sangats donations at Gurdwara

This is the state of affairs at a Gurdwara in Nottingham called the ' Sikh Temple '. The management committee at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Nottingham Road , have a long history of association with the Indian overseas congress and Indian workers association. The anti-Sikh and anti-Gurmat stance that they have taken over the years includes:

- Writing to the Prime Minister during the 'Mandla vs Lee' case stating that turbans are unnecessary.
- Displaying an exhibition by the RSS in which Guru Nanak Dev Ji had an OM sign on his body. The display also contained statements such as Sikhs are part of Hinduism and that Shaheed Udham Singh shot Michael O'Dywer by mistake.

The committee is also illegal as their term expired 12 months ago and there appear to be no plans for elections in the near future.

- No accounts have been published for the last two years.
- For political reasons they spend the sangat’s donations on activities such as Dhol and Yoga.

They had an opportunity from a Planning Gain to build a Sikh Community Centre after years of hard work by members of the local community - Instead they took over the Indian Community Centre and independently decided to throw in the sangat's resources including cash into building a new Indian Community Centre. This is an epic betrayal of the Sikh aspirations in Nottingham and it is difficult to see how the Panth could ever forgive them.

The photo below shows their most recent act. Despite pleas from the sangat, a new Gumed has been placed above the space used for shoe storage instead of over the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. This is in spite of the sangat advising them against doing so. Clearly, not only have they wasted the sangat's money again, they have also violated the maryada.

The main person responsible from the committee for these treacherous acts against the Panth is Balraj Johal (Makhan). We would urge the community to stand up and ask for explanations for the above actions by contacting him on 07966 538 241 or 0115 9666 187.

Sikh Girl Saved: The spirit of the saint-soldier that is part of the ideal of Sikhism is again highlighted in this recent News story. On 18th of August 2006, around 5:15am, UNITED SIKHS Director Bhai Esher Singh was walking towards the his office in Ranjit Avenue to meet Jarmanjeet Singh after paying obeisance at the Harimandir Sahib (Golden Temple). On his way Bhai Esher Singh heard the screams of a girl who appeared to be in distress. Bhai Eshar Singh being concerned about the state to this girl, intervened. As it transpired, he was just in time to save the girl from the unthinkable act of rape. In the process of stopping this unthinkable act, Bhai Esher Singh sustained trauma and broken bones at the hands of the perpetrators. However, with the grace of the Almighty, Bhai Esher Singh survived the incident. We at UNITED SIKHS offer our whole-hearted thank you to all of the organizations and individuals who assisted him after the incident. ......Continued.
