Salman says 'No' to smoking!

Salman Khan, the famous Bollywood actor may be a Muslim but he respects every single religion as is evident by his feelings expressed in regards to the same during his interviews and 10 Ka Dum episodes. The painter in him also displays his religion tolerance side through his paintings. Most of his paintings combine two religions together. Like his most famous painting which has the image of Jesus Christ along with a mosque.

But Salman also chooses to practise what he preaches. A source close to him revealed us more about it, “Salman is playing a Sikh character in Samir Karnik’s Heroes. His character sports a turban in the film like Sikhs do. So involved was he with his turbaned Sikh character that he refrained himself from smoking whenever he was on the sets sporting the turban. When his co-stars and director tried to find out the reason, Salman told them Sikhs consider smoking unsociable and dirty. So it was out of his sheer respect for the Sikh community that he was not smoking when he had his turban on for the role of a Sikh.”

His full name is Abdul Rashid Salim Salman Khan and he was born on December 27, 1965. Khan, who made his acting debut with the film Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), had his first commercial success with the blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. He went on to star in some of Bollywood's most successful films, such as Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994), Biwi No.1 (1999), having appeared in the highest earning films of five separate years during his career.

Salman Khan’s family is a symbol of National Integration. His dad, writer Salim Khan is married to a Maharashtrian, Hindu. His brother Sohail and Arbaaz have married a Hindu and a Christian respectively. His sister Alvira too has married a Hindu. No wonder Salman respects all the religions and millions of fans from all the religions! (SAMPURN)

Salman Khan has given up smoking… but only when he is dressed as a Sikh. Confused? Well, Salman, who is playing a Sikh in Samir Karnik’s Heroes has decided, that out of respect for the religion, he will refrain from smoking while dressed in the Sikh attire.

Says Vikas Kapoor, producer of the film, “Salmanbhai respects all religion and follows them religiously.

He was aware that Sikhs generally don’t smoke as their religion does not permit them to, and hence, out of respect for the religion, he too did not smoke.

He is a chain smoker, but his respect for the turban he wore kept him from smoking, all through the film. He often spent ten hours in his costume, and never touched a cigarette!”

Salman does an Akshay; dons a turban and a beard in Heroes

Zeenews Spicezee Bureau, Mumbai, Aug 21, 2008

‘Singh is Kinng’ indeed! Following Akshay’s footsteps, it’s none other than the B-town macho man Salman Khan, who is all charged up to don the most happening look these days, a turban and a beard. The actor, who would soon be seen playing a Sardar in his forthcoming flick ‘Heroes’, is doing all that it takes to give his character all the authenticity.

The actor who is known for his intense and severe reactions has taken his turban pretty seriously as he is now following some important principles of the religion as long as he has the Sikh attire on.

It’s a known fact that Salman is a chain smoker and stops at nothing. However, we have been told that the actor did not lit the bud anytime he had the Sikh getup on.

Speaking to a news daily, Sallu’s manager, Vikas said, “Salman respects all religions and follows them sincerely. He knew that Sikhs generally don’t smoke as they are prohibited by their religion. So, taking that into consideration, he decided not to smoke during the shoot of this film. I remember sometimes he used to spend 10 hours in the same get up but didn’t smoke at all. Salman also grew his beard to make his get up look real. His respect for the turban made him stay away from cigarettes.”

‘Heroes’, set to release early next year, is the story of two boys who embark on an adventurous road trip from Delhi to Chandigarh and then from Manali to Ladhakh. Besides Salman, the flick stars Vatsal Sheth, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, Sohail Khan, Preity Zinta, Dino Morea, Amrita Arora and Riya Sen.

Hmm.. looks like Salman’s out to prove that he is sure better than the real Singh. But for now, Akshay is the real ‘Kinng’!
