ਸਤਿ ਪਰਖ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
Saṯ purakẖ jin jĝni▫ĝ saṯgur ṯis kĝ nĝ▫o. |
The one who knows the True Lord God, is called the True Guru. |
ਤਿਸ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਿਖ ਉਧਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗਨ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ |
Ŧis kai sang sikẖ uḝẖrai Nĝnak har gun gĝ▫o. ((1)) |
In His Company, the Sikh is saved, O Nanak, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ((1)) |

Saṯgur sikẖ kī karai parṯipĝl. |
The True Guru cherishes His Sikh. |
ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਗਰ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ |
Sevak ka▫o gur saḝĝ ḝa▫i▫ĝl. |
The Guru is always merciful to His servant. |
ਸਿਖ ਕੀ ਗਰ ਦਰਮਤਿ ਮਲ ਹਿਰੈ ॥ |
Sikẖ kī gur ḝurmaṯ mal hirai. |
The Guru washes away the filth of the evil intellect of His Sikh. |
ਗਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਰੈ ॥ |
Gur bacẖnī har nĝm ucẖrai. |
Through the Guru's Teachings, he chants the Lord's Name. |
ਸਤਿਗਰ ਸਿਖ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟੈ ॥ |
Saṯgur sikẖ ke banḝẖan kĝtai. |
The True Guru cuts away the bonds of His Sikh. |
ਗਰ ਕਾ ਸਿਖ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਤੇ ਹਾਟੈ ॥ |
Gur kĝ sikẖ bikĝr ṯe hĝtai. |
The Sikh of the Guru abstains from evil deeds. |
ਸਤਿਗਰ ਸਿਖ ਕਉ ਨਾਮ ਧਨ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
Saṯgur sikẖ ka▫o nĝm ḝẖan ḝe▫e. |
The True Guru gives His Sikh the wealth of the Naam. |
ਗਰ ਕਾ ਸਿਖ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹੇ ॥ |
Gur kĝ sikẖ vadbẖĝgī he. |
The Sikh of the Guru is very fortunate. |
ਸਤਿਗਰ ਸਿਖ ਕਾ ਹਲਤ ਪਲਤ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥ |
Saṯgur sikẖ kĝ halaṯ palaṯ savĝrai. |
The True Guru arranges this world and the next for His Sikh. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਸਿਖ ਕਉ ਜੀਅ ਨਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ |
Nĝnak saṯgur sikẖ ka▫o jī▫a nĝl samĝrai. ((1)) |
O Nanak, with the fullness of His heart, the True Guru mends His Sikh. ((1)) |
ਗਰ ਕੈ ਗਰਿਹਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਜੋ ਰਹੈ ॥ |
Gur kai garihi sevak jo rahai. |
That selfless servant, who lives in the Guru's household, |
ਗਰ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਹੈ ॥ |
Gur kī ĝgi▫ĝ man mėh sahai. |
is to obey the Guru's Commands with all his mind. |
ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਛ ਨ ਜਨਾਵੈ ॥ |
Āpas ka▫o kar kacẖẖ na janĝvai. |
He is not to call attention to himself in any way. |
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਦ ਧਿਆਵੈ ॥ |
Har har nĝm riḝai saḝ ḝẖi▫ĝvai. |
He is to meditate constantly within his heart on the Name of the Lord. |
ਮਨ ਬੇਚੈ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥ |
Man becẖai saṯgur kai pĝs. |
One who sells his mind to the True Guru - |
ਤਿਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਕੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਰਾਸਿ ॥ |
Ŧis sevak ke kĝraj rĝs. |
that humble servant's affairs are resolved. |
ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੀ ॥ |
Sevĝ karaṯ ho▫e nihkĝmī. |
One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, |
ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸਆਮੀ ॥ |
Ŧis ka▫o hoṯ parĝpaṯ su▫ĝmī. |
shall attain his Lord and Master. |
ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
Apnī kirpĝ jis ĝp kare▫i. |
He Himself grants His Grace; |
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕ ਗਰ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੇਇ ॥੨॥ |
Nĝnak so sevak gur kī maṯ le▫e. ((2)) |
O Nanak, that selfless servant lives the Guru's Teachings. ((2)) |
ਬੀਸ ਬਿਸਵੇ ਗਰ ਕਾ ਮਨ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ |
Bīs bisve gur kĝ man mĝnai. |
One who obeys the Guru's Teachings one hundred per cent - |
ਸੋ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ |
So sevak parmesur kī gaṯ jĝnai. |
that selfless servant comes to know the state of the Transcendent Lord. |
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਜਿਸ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
So saṯgur jis riḝai har nĝ▫o. |
The True Guru's Heart is filled with the Name of the Lord. |
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਗਰ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥ |
Anik bĝr gur ka▫o bal jĝ▫o. |
So many times, I am a sacrifice to the Guru. |
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ॥ |
Sarab niḝẖĝn jī▫a kĝ ḝĝṯĝ. |
He is the treasure of everything, the Giver of life. |
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ |
Āṯẖ pahar pĝrbarahm rang rĝṯĝ. |
Twenty-four hours a day, He is imbued with the Love of the Supreme Lord God. |
ਬਰਹਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ॥ |
Barahm mėh jan jan mėh pĝrbarahm. |
The servant is in God, and God is in the servant. |
ਝਕਹਿ ਆਪਿ ਨਹੀ ਕਛ ਭਰਮ ॥ |
Ėkėh ĝp nahī kacẖẖ bẖaram. |
He Himself is One - there is no doubt about this. |
ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਨਪ ਲਇਆ ਨ ਜਾਈਝ ॥ |
Sahas si▫ĝnap la▫i▫ĝ na jĝ▫ī▫ai. |
By thousands of clever tricks, He is not found. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਝਸਾ ਗਰ ਬਡਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਝ ॥੩॥ |
Nĝnak aisĝ gur badbẖĝgī pĝ▫ī▫ai. ((3)) |
O Nanak, such a Guru is obtained by the greatest good fortune. ((3)) |
ਸਫਲ ਦਰਸਨ ਪੇਖਤ ਪਨੀਤ ॥ |
Safal ḝarsan pekẖaṯ punīṯ. |
Blessed is His Darshan; receiving it, one is purified. |
ਪਰਸਤ ਚਰਨ ਗਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
Parsaṯ cẖaran gaṯ nirmal rīṯ. |
Touching His Feet, one's conduct and lifestyle become pure. |
ਭੇਟਤ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਗਨ ਰਵੇ ॥ |
Bẖetaṯ sang rĝm gun rave. |
Abiding in His Company, one chants the Lord's Praise, |
ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਗਵੇ ॥ |
Pĝrbarahm kī ḝargėh gave. |
and reaches the Court of the Supreme Lord God. |
ਸਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਚਨ ਕਰਨ ਆਘਾਨੇ ॥ |
Sun kar bacẖan karan ĝgẖĝne. |
Listening to His Teachings, one's ears are satisfied. |
ਮਨਿ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਆਤਮ ਪਤੀਆਨੇ ॥ |
Man sanṯokẖ ĝṯam paṯī▫ĝne. |
The mind is contented, and the soul is fulfilled. |
ਪੂਰਾ ਗਰ ਅਖਯਯਓ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮੰਤਰ ॥ |
Pūrĝ gur akẖ▫ya▫o jĝ kĝ manṯar. |
The Guru is perfect; His Teachings are everlasting. |
ਅੰਮਰਿਤ ਦਰਿਸਟਿ ਪੇਖੈ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਤ ॥ |
Amriṯ ḝarisat pekẖai ho▫e sanṯ. |
Beholding His Ambrosial Glance, one becomes saintly. |
ਗਣ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥ |
Guṇ bi▫anṯ kīmaṯ nahī pĝ▫e. |
Endless are His virtuous qualities; His worth cannot be appraised. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਲਝ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੪॥ |
Nĝnak jis bẖĝvai ṯis la▫e milĝ▫e. ((4)) |
O Nanak, one who pleases Him is united with Him. ((4)) |
ਜਿਹਬਾ ਝਕ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਅਨੇਕ ॥ |
Jihbĝ ek usṯaṯ anek. |
The tongue is one, but His Praises are many. |
ਸਤਿ ਪਰਖ ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਬੇਕ ॥ |
Saṯ purakẖ pūran bibek. |
The True Lord, of perfect perfection,. |
ਕਾਹੂ ਬੋਲ ਨ ਪਹਚਤ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥ |
Kĝhū bol na pahucẖaṯ parĝnī. |
no speech can take the mortal to Him. |
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਪਰਭ ਨਿਰਬਾਨੀ ॥ |
Agam agocẖar parabẖ nirbĝnī. |
God is Inaccessible, Incomprehensible, balanced in the state of Nirvaanaa. |
ਨਿਰਾਹਾਰ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ਸਖਦਾਈ ॥ |
Nirĝhĝr nirvair sukẖ▫ḝĝ▫ī. |
He is not sustained by food; He has no hatred or vengeance; He is the Giver of peace. |
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ |
Ŧĝ kī kīmaṯ kinai na pĝ▫ī. |
No one can estimate His worth. |
ਅਨਿਕ ਭਗਤ ਬੰਦਨ ਨਿਤ ਕਰਹਿ ॥ |
Anik bẖagaṯ banḝan niṯ karahi. |
Countless devotees continually bow in reverence to Him. |
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਿਮਰਹਿ ॥ |
Cẖaran kamal hirḝai simrahi. |
In their hearts, they meditate on His Lotus Feet. |
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਅਪਨੇ ॥ |
Saḝ balihĝrī saṯgur apne. |
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the True Guru; |
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਝਸਾ ਪਰਭ ਜਪਨੇ ॥੫॥ |
Nĝnak jis parsĝḝ aisĝ parabẖ japne. ((5)) |
by His Grace, he meditates on God. ((5)) |
ਇਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
Ih har ras pĝvai jan ko▫e. |
Only a few obtain this ambrosial essence of the Lord's Name. |
ਅੰਮਰਿਤ ਪੀਵੈ ਅਮਰ ਸੋ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
Amriṯ pīvai amar so ho▫e. |
Drinking in this Nectar, one becomes immortal. |
ਉਸ ਪਰਖ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਦੇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥ |
Us purakẖ kĝ nĝhī kaḝe binĝs. |
That person never dies, |
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਟੇ ਗਨਤਾਸ ॥ |
Jĝ kai man pargate gunṯĝs. |
whose mind is illuminated by the treasure of excellence. |
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
Āṯẖ pahar har kĝ nĝm le▫e. |
Twenty-four hours a day, he takes the Name of the Lord. |
ਸਚ ਉਪਦੇਸ ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਦੇਇ ॥ |
Sacẖ upḝes sevak ka▫o ḝe▫e. |
The Lord gives true instruction to His servant. |
ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਲੇਪ ॥ |
Moh mĝ▫i▫ĝ kai sang na lep. |
He is not polluted by emotional attachment to Maya. |
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਝਕ ॥ |
Man mėh rĝkẖai har har ek. |
In his mind, he cherishes the One Lord, Har, Har. |
ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਦੀਪਕ ਪਰਗਾਸੇ ॥ |
Anḝẖkĝr ḝīpak pargĝse. |
In the pitch darkness, a lamp shines forth. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਦਖ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਨਾਸੇ ॥੬॥ |
Nĝnak bẖaram moh ḝukẖ ṯah ṯe nĝse. ((6)) |
O Nanak, doubt, emotional attachment and pain are erased. ((6)) |
ਤਪਤਿ ਮਾਹਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਵਰਤਾਈ ॥ |
Ŧapaṯ mĝhi ṯẖĝdẖ varṯĝ▫ī. |
In the burning heat, a soothing coolness prevails. |
ਅਨਦ ਭਇਆ ਦਖ ਨਾਠੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ |
Anaḝ bẖa▫i▫ĝ ḝukẖ nĝṯẖe bẖĝ▫ī. |
Happiness ensues and pain departs, O Siblings of Destiny. |
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕੇ ਮਿਟੇ ਅੰਦੇਸੇ ॥ |
Janam maran ke mite anḝese. |
The fear of birth and death is dispelled, |
ਸਾਧੂ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਉਪਦੇਸੇ ॥ |
Sĝḝẖū ke pūran upḝese. |
by the perfect Teachings of the Holy Saint. |
ਭਉ ਚੂਕਾ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਹੋਇ ਬਸੇ ॥ |
Bẖa▫o cẖūkĝ nirbẖa▫o ho▫e base. |
Fear is lifted, and one abides in fearlessness. |
ਸਗਲ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਖੈ ਨਸੇ ॥ |
Sagal bi▫ĝḝẖ man ṯe kẖai nase. |
All evils are dispelled from the mind. |
ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
Jis kĝ sĝ ṯin kirpĝ ḝẖĝrī. |
He takes us into His favor as His own. |
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮ ਮਰਾਰੀ ॥ |
Sĝḝẖsang jap nĝm murĝrī. |
In the Company of the Holy, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord. |
ਥਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਚੂਕੇ ਭਰਮ ਗਵਨ ॥ |
Thiṯ pĝ▫ī cẖūke bẖaram gavan. |
Stability is attained; doubt and wandering cease, |
ਸਨਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸ ਸਰਵਨ ॥੭॥ |
Sun Nĝnak har har jas sarvan. ((7)) |
O Nanak, listening with one's ears to the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ((7)) |
ਨਿਰਗਨ ਆਪਿ ਸਰਗਨ ਭੀ ਓਹੀ ॥ |
Nirgun ĝp sargun bẖī ohī. |
He Himself is absolute and unrelated; He Himself is also involved and related. |
ਕਲਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਗਲੀ ਮੋਹੀ ॥ |
Kalĝ ḝẖĝr jin saglī mohī. |
Manifesting His power, He fascinates the entire world. |
ਅਪਨੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਪਰਭਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਨਾਝ ॥ |
Apne cẖariṯ parabẖ ĝp banĝ▫e. |
God Himself sets His play in motion. |
ਅਪਨੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਝ ॥ |
Apunī kīmaṯ ĝpe pĝ▫e. |
Only He Himself can estimate His worth. |
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
Har bin ḝūjĝ nĝhī ko▫e. |
There is none, other than the Lord. |
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਝਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
Sarab niranṯar eko so▫e. |
Permeating all, He is the One. |
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ॥ |
Oṯ poṯ ravi▫ĝ rūp rang. |
Through and through, He pervades in form and color. |
ਭਝ ਪਰਗਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗ ॥ |
Bẖa▫e pargĝs sĝḝẖ kai sang. |
He is revealed in the Company of the Holy. |
ਰਚਿ ਰਚਨਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਲ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ |
Racẖ racẖnĝ apnī kal ḝẖĝrī. |
Having created the creation, He infuses His own power into it. |
ਅਨਿਕ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੮॥੧੮॥ |
Anik bĝr Nĝnak balihĝrī. ((8)(18)) |
So many times, Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ((8)(18)) |
