ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੈ ਜੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮ ॥ |
Ur ḝẖĝrai jo anṯar nĝm. |
One who enshrines the Naam within the heart, |
ਸਰਬ ਮੈ ਪੇਖੈ ਭਗਵਾਨ ॥ |
Sarab mai pekẖai bẖagvĝn. |
who sees the Lord God in all, |
ਨਿਮਖ ਨਿਮਖ ਠਾਕਰ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੈ ॥ |
Nimakẖ nimakẖ ṯẖĝkur namaskĝrai. |
who, each and every moment, bows in reverence to the Lord Master - |
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹ ਅਪਰਸ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ |
Nĝnak oh apras sagal nisṯĝrai. ((1)) |
O Nanak, such a one is the true 'touch-nothing Saint', who emancipates everyone. ((1)) |

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਰਸਨਾ ਪਰਸ ॥ |
Mithi▫ĝ nĝhī rasnĝ paras. |
One whose tongue does not touch falsehood; |
ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਰੀਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦਰਸ ॥ |
Man mėh parīṯ niranjan ḝaras. |
whose mind is filled with love for the Blessed Vision of the Pure Lord, |
ਪਰ ਤਰਿਅ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਪੇਖੈ ਨੇਤਰ ॥ |
Par ṯari▫a rūp na pekẖai neṯar. |
whose eyes do not gaze upon the beauty of others' wives, |
ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥ |
Sĝḝẖ kī tahal saṯsang heṯ. |
who serves the Holy and loves the congregation of saints, |
ਕਰਨ ਨ ਸਨੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੀ ਨਿੰਦਾ ॥ |
Karan na sunai kĝhū kī ninḝĝ. |
whose ears do not listen to slander against anyone, |
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਸ ਕਉ ਮੰਦਾ ॥ |
Sabẖ ṯe jĝnai ĝpas ka▫o manḝĝ. |
who deems himself to be the worst of all, |
ਗਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥ |
Gur parsĝḝ bikẖi▫ĝ parharai. |
who, by Guru's Grace, renounces corruption, |
ਮਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਸਨਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਟਰੈ ॥ |
Man kī bĝsnĝ man ṯe tarai. |
who banishes the mind's evil desires from his mind, |
ਇੰਦਰੀ ਜਿਤ ਪੰਚ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ॥ |
Inḝrī jiṯ pancẖ ḝokẖ ṯe rahaṯ. |
who conquers his sexual instincts and is free of the five sinful passions - |
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਝਸਾ ਅਪਰਸ ॥੧॥ |
Nĝnak kot maḝẖe ko aisĝ apras. ((1)) |
O Nanak, among millions, there is scarcely one such 'touch-nothing Saint'. ((1)) |
ਬੈਸਨੋ ਸੋ ਜਿਸ ਊਪਰਿ ਸਪਰਸੰਨ ॥ |
Baisno so jis ūpar suparsan. |
The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased. |
ਬਿਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਭਿੰਨ ॥ |
Bisan kī mĝ▫i▫ĝ ṯe ho▫e bẖinn. |
He dwells apart from Maya. |
ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਿਹਕਰਮ ॥ |
Karam karaṯ hovai nihkaram. |
Performing good deeds, he does not seek rewards. |
ਤਿਸ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਕਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਧਰਮ ॥ |
Ŧis baisno kĝ nirmal ḝẖaram. |
Spotlessly pure is the religion of such a Vaishnaav; |
ਕਾਹੂ ਫਲ ਕੀ ਇਛਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਾਛੈ ॥ |
Kĝhū fal kī icẖẖĝ nahī bĝcẖẖai. |
he has no desire for the fruits of his labors. |
ਕੇਵਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਾਚੈ ॥ |
Keval bẖagaṯ kīrṯan sang rĝcẖai. |
He is absorbed in devotional worship and the singing of Kirtan, the songs of the Lord's Glory. |
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥ |
Man ṯan anṯar simran gopĝl. |
Within his mind and body, he meditates in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe. |
ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥ |
Sabẖ ūpar hovaṯ kirpĝl. |
He is kind to all creatures. |
ਆਪਿ ਦਰਿੜੈ ਅਵਰਹ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਾਵੈ ॥ |
Āp ḝariṛai avrah nĝm japĝvai. |
He holds fast to the Naam, and inspires others to chant it. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹ ਬੈਸਨੋ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ |
Nĝnak oh baisno param gaṯ pĝvai. ((2)) |
O Nanak, such a Vaishnaav obtains the supreme status. ((2)) |
ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਾ ਰੰਗ ॥ |
Bẖag▫uṯī bẖagvanṯ bẖagaṯ kĝ rang. |
The true Bhagaautee, the devotee of Adi Shakti, loves the devotional worship of God. |
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗੈ ਦਸਟ ਕਾ ਸੰਗ ॥ |
Sagal ṯi▫ĝgai ḝusat kĝ sang. |
He forsakes the company of all wicked people. |
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਸਗਲਾ ਭਰਮ ॥ |
Man ṯe binsai saglĝ bẖaram. |
All doubts are removed from his mind. |
ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੈ ਸਗਲ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ॥ |
Kar pūjai sagal pĝrbarahm. |
He performs devotional service to the Supreme Lord God in all. |
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਲ ਖੋਵੈ ॥ |
Sĝḝẖsang pĝpĝ mal kẖovai. |
In the Company of the Holy, the filth of sin is washed away. |
ਤਿਸ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਵੈ ॥ |
Ŧis bẖag▫uṯī kī maṯ ūṯam hovai. |
The wisdom of such a Bhagaautee becomes supreme. |
ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕੀ ਟਹਲ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥ |
Bẖagvanṯ kī tahal karai niṯ nīṯ. |
He constantly performs the service of the Supreme Lord God. |
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਅਰਪੈ ਬਿਸਨ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥ |
Man ṯan arpai bisan parīṯ. |
He dedicates his mind and body to the Love of God. |
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥ |
Har ke cẖaran hirḝai basĝvai. |
The Lotus Feet of the Lord abide in his heart. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਝਸਾ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਭਗਵੰਤ ਕਉ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ |
Nĝnak aisĝ bẖag▫uṯī bẖagvanṯ ka▫o pĝvai. ((3)) |
O Nanak, such a Bhagaautee attains the Lord God. ((3)) |
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ ॥ |
So pandiṯ jo man parboḝẖai. |
He is a true Pandit, a religious scholar, who instructs his own mind. |
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ ॥ |
Rĝm nĝm ĝṯam mėh soḝẖai. |
He searches for the Lord's Name within his own soul. |
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਰ ਰਸ ਪੀਵੈ ॥ |
Rĝm nĝm sĝr ras pīvai. |
He drinks in the Exquisite Nectar of the Lord's Name. |
ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕੈ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਜਗ ਜੀਵੈ ॥ |
Us pandiṯ kai upḝes jag jīvai. |
By that Pandit's teachings, the world lives. |
ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਬਸਾਵੈ ॥ |
Har kī kathĝ hirḝai basĝvai. |
He implants the Sermon of the Lord in his heart. |
ਸੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ |
So pandiṯ fir jon na ĝvai. |
Such a Pandit is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again. |
ਬੇਦ ਪਰਾਨ ਸਿਮਰਿਤਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਮੂਲ ॥ |
Beḝ purĝn simriṯ būjẖai mūl. |
He understands the fundamental essence of the Vedas, the Puraanas and the Simritees. |
ਸੂਖਮ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅਸਥੂਲ ॥ |
Sūkẖam mėh jĝnai asthūl. |
In the unmanifest, he sees the manifest world to exist. |
ਚਹ ਵਰਨਾ ਕਉ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ ॥ |
Cẖahu varnĝ ka▫o ḝe upḝes. |
He gives instruction to people of all castes and social classes. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਉਸ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਅਦੇਸ ॥੪॥ |
Nĝnak us pandiṯ ka▫o saḝĝ aḝes. ((4)) |
O Nanak, to such a Pandit, I bow in salutation forever. ((4)) |
ਬੀਜ ਮੰਤਰ ਸਰਬ ਕੋ ਗਿਆਨ ॥ |
Bīj manṯar sarab ko gi▫ĝn. |
The Beej Mantra, the Seed Mantra, is spiritual wisdom for everyone. |
ਚਹ ਵਰਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਜਪੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮ ॥ |
Cẖahu varnĝ mėh japai ko▫ū nĝm. |
Anyone, from any class, may chant the Naam. |
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਜਪੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
Jo jo japai ṯis kī gaṯ ho▫e. |
Whoever chants it, is emancipated. |
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ |
Sĝḝẖsang pĝvai jan ko▫e. |
And yet, rare are those who attain it, in the Company of the Holy. |
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੈ ॥ |
Kar kirpĝ anṯar ur ḝẖĝrai. |
By His Grace, He enshrines it within. |
ਪਸ ਪਰੇਤ ਮਘਦ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਉ ਤਾਰੈ ॥ |
Pas pareṯ mugẖaḝ pĝthar ka▫o ṯĝrai. |
Even beasts, ghosts and the stone-hearted are saved. |
ਸਰਬ ਰੋਗ ਕਾ ਅਉਖਦ ਨਾਮ ॥ |
Sarab rog kĝ a▫ukẖaḝ nĝm. |
The Naam is the panacea, the remedy to cure all ills. |
ਕਲਿਆਣ ਰੂਪ ਮੰਗਲ ਗਣ ਗਾਮ ॥ |
Kali▫ĝṇ rūp mangal guṇ gĝm. |
Singing the Glory of God is the embodiment of bliss and emancipation. |
ਕਾਹੂ ਜਗਤਿ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਝ ਧਰਮਿ ॥ |
Kĝhū jugaṯ kiṯai na pĝ▫ī▫ai ḝẖaram. |
It cannot be obtained by any religious rituals. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿਸ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਧਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ॥੫॥ |
Nĝnak ṯis milai jis likẖi▫ĝ ḝẖur karam. ((5)) |
O Nanak, he alone obtains it, whose karma is so pre-ordained. ((5)) |
ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਕਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥ |
Jis kai man pĝrbarahm kĝ nivĝs. |
One whose mind is a home for the Supreme Lord God - |
ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਤਿ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ॥ |
Ŧis kĝ nĝm saṯ Rĝmḝĝs. |
his name is truly Ram Das, the Lord's servant. |
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮ ਤਿਸ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ॥ |
Āṯam rĝm ṯis naḝrī ĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
He comes to have the Vision of the Lord, the Supreme Soul. |
ਦਾਸ ਦਸੰਤਣ ਭਾਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
Ḏĝs ḝasanṯaṇ bẖĝ▫e ṯin pĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
Deeming himself to be the slave of the Lord's slaves, he obtains it. |
ਸਦਾ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਨ ॥ |
Saḝĝ nikat nikat har jĝn. |
He knows the Lord to be Ever-present, close at hand. |
ਸੋ ਦਾਸ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਰਵਾਨ ॥ |
So ḝĝs ḝargėh parvĝn. |
Such a servant is honored in the Court of the Lord. |
ਅਪਨੇ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥ |
Apune ḝĝs ka▫o ĝp kirpĝ karai. |
To His servant, He Himself shows His Mercy. |
ਤਿਸ ਦਾਸ ਕਉ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਰੈ ॥ |
Ŧis ḝĝs ka▫o sabẖ sojẖī parai. |
Such a servant understands everything. |
ਸਗਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਆਤਮ ਉਦਾਸ ॥ |
Sagal sang ĝṯam uḝĝs. |
Amidst all, his soul is unattached. |
ਝਸੀ ਜਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ॥੬॥ |
Aisī jugaṯ Nĝnak Rĝmḝĝs. ((6)) |
Such is the way, O Nanak, of the Lord's servant. ((6)) |
ਪਰਭ ਕੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਹਿਤਾਵੈ ॥ |
Parabẖ kī ĝgi▫ĝ ĝṯam hiṯĝvai. |
One who, in his soul, loves the Will of God, |
ਜੀਵਨ ਮਕਤਿ ਸੋਊ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥ |
Jīvan mukaṯ so▫ū kahĝvai. |
is said to be Jivan Mukta - liberated while yet alive. |
ਤੈਸਾ ਹਰਖ ਤੈਸਾ ਉਸ ਸੋਗ ॥ |
Ŧaisĝ harakẖ ṯaisĝ us sog. |
As is joy, so is sorrow to him. |
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਤਹ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਓਗ ॥ |
Saḝĝ anand ṯah nahī bi▫og. |
He is in eternal bliss, and is not separated from God. |
ਤੈਸਾ ਸਵਰਨ ਤੈਸੀ ਉਸ ਮਾਟੀ ॥ |
Ŧaisĝ suvran ṯaisī us mĝtī. |
As is gold, so is dust to him. |
ਤੈਸਾ ਅੰਮਰਿਤ ਤੈਸੀ ਬਿਖ ਖਾਟੀ ॥ |
Ŧaisĝ amriṯ ṯaisī bikẖ kẖĝtī. |
As is ambrosial nectar, so is bitter poison to him. |
ਤੈਸਾ ਮਾਨ ਤੈਸਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ॥ |
Ŧaisĝ mĝn ṯaisĝ abẖimĝn. |
As is honor, so is dishonor. |
ਤੈਸਾ ਰੰਕ ਤੈਸਾ ਰਾਜਾਨ ॥ |
Ŧaisĝ rank ṯaisĝ rĝjĝn. |
As is the beggar, so is the king. |
ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਝ ਸਾਈ ਜਗਤਿ ॥ |
Jo varṯĝ▫e sĝ▫ī jugaṯ. |
Whatever God ordains, that is his way. |
ਨਾਨਕ ਓਹ ਪਰਖ ਕਹੀਝ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਕਤਿ ॥੭॥ |
Nĝnak oh purakẖ kahī▫ai jīvan mukaṯ. ((7)) |
O Nanak, that being is known as Jivan Mukta. ((7)) |
ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਠਾਉ ॥ |
Pĝrbarahm ke sagle ṯẖĝ▫o. |
All places belong to the Supreme Lord God. |
ਜਿਤ ਜਿਤ ਘਰਿ ਰਾਖੈ ਤੈਸਾ ਤਿਨ ਨਾਉ ॥ |
Jiṯ jiṯ gẖar rĝkẖai ṯaisĝ ṯin nĝ▫o. |
According to the homes in which they are placed, so are His creatures named. |
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਜੋਗ ॥ |
Āpe karan karĝvan jog. |
He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of causes. |
ਪਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਫਨਿ ਹੋਗ ॥ |
Parabẖ bẖĝvai so▫ī fun hog. |
Whatever pleases God, ultimately comes to pass. |
ਪਸਰਿਓ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗ ॥ |
Pasri▫o ĝp ho▫e anaṯ ṯarang. |
He Himself is All-pervading, in endless waves. |
ਲਖੇ ਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਕੇ ਰੰਗ ॥ |
Lakẖe na jĝhi pĝrbarahm ke rang. |
The playful sport of the Supreme Lord God cannot be known. |
ਜੈਸੀ ਮਤਿ ਦੇਇ ਤੈਸਾ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥ |
Jaisī maṯ ḝe▫e ṯaisĝ pargĝs. |
As the understanding is given, so is one enlightened. |
ਪਾਰਬਰਹਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸ ॥ |
Pĝrbarahm karṯĝ abinĝs. |
The Supreme Lord God, the Creator, is eternal and everlasting. |
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ |
Saḝĝ saḝĝ saḝĝ ḝa▫i▫ĝl. |
Forever, forever and ever, He is merciful. |
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਝ ਨਿਹਾਲ ॥੮॥੯॥ |
Simar simar Nĝnak bẖa▫e nihĝl. ((8)(9)) |
Remembering Him, remembering Him in meditation, O Nanak, one is blessed with ecstasy. ((8)(9)) |
