My Papa, the perfect Sikh of the Guru

Hari ji, I have been trying to read the story above, but I am having a very hard time making sense of it. With modifiers coming after words in Punjabi and before them in English things get confused in English.

Is she talking of her father or an adopted 'father' who came to her aid like a super Bhai Khaniya. I made some minor changes in the first sentence - perhaps, I have only made matters worse. Did the woman call (phone) or simply knock on the door>

Please revert the page if I have muddled things.
