{{g|ਪਉੜੀ ॥ Pa▫oṛī. Pauree:

ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ੝ ਵਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਝ ਜਿਸ੝ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਡੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥ Saṯgur vadĝ kar salĝhī▫ai jis vicẖ vadī▫ĝ vaḝi▫ĝ▫ī▫ĝ. Praise the Great True Guru; within Him is the greatest greatness.

ਸਹਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਤਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਈਆ ॥ Sėh mele ṯĝ naḝrī ĝ▫ī▫ĝ. When the Lord causes us to meet the Guru, then we come to see them.

ਜਾ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਣਾ ਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਈਆ ॥ Jĝ ṯis bẖĝṇĝ ṯĝ man vasĝ▫ī▫ĝ. When it pleases Him, they come to dwell in our minds.

ਕਰਿ ਹ੝ਕਮ੝ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਥ੝ ਧਰਿ ਵਿਚਹ੝ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢੀਆ ਬ੝ਰਿਆਈਆ ॥ Kar hukam masṯak hath ḝẖar vicẖahu mĝr kadẖī▫ĝ buri▫ĝ▫ī▫ĝ. By His Command, when He places His hand on our foreheads, wickedness departs from within.

ਸਹਿ ਤ੝ਠੈ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਾਈਆ ॥੧੮॥ Sėh ṯuṯẖai na▫o niḝẖ pĝ▫ī▫ĝ. ||18|| When the Lord is thoroughly pleased, the nine treasures are obtained. ||18||

ਸਲੋਕ੝ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ Salok mėhlĝ 1. Shalok, First Mehl:

ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸ੝ਚਾ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਇ ਸ੝ਚੈ ਬੈਠਾ ਆਇ ॥ Pahilĝ sucẖĝ ĝp ho▫e sucẖai baiṯẖĝ ĝ▫e. First, purifying himself, the Brahmin comes and sits in his purified enclosure.

ਸ੝ਚੇ ਅਗੈ ਰਖਿਓਨ੝ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਭਿਟਿਓ ਜਾਇ ॥ Sucẖe agai rakẖi▫on ko▫e na bẖiti▫o jĝ▫e. The pure foods, which no one else has touched, are placed before him.

ਸ੝ਚਾ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਜੇਵਿਆ ਲਗਾ ਪੜਣਿ ਸਲੋਕ੝ ॥ Sucẖĝ ho▫e kai jevi▫ĝ lagĝ paṛaṇ salok. Being purified, he takes his food, and begins to read his sacred verses.

ਕ੝ਹਥੀ ਜਾਈ ਸਟਿਆ ਕਿਸ੝ ਝਹ੝ ਲਗਾ ਦੋਖ੝ ॥ Kuhthī jĝ▫ī sati▫ĝ kis ehu lagĝ ḝokẖ. But it is then thrown into a filthy place - whose fault is this?

ਅੰਨ੝ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ੝ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਲੂਣ੝ ਪੰਜਵਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਘਿਰਤ੝ ॥ Ann ḝevṯĝ pĝṇī ḝevṯĝ baisanṯar ḝevṯĝ lūṇ panjvĝ pĝ▫i▫ĝ gẖiraṯ. The corn is sacred, the water is sacred; the fire and salt are sacred as well; when the fifth thing, the ghee, is added,

ਤਾ ਹੋਆ ਪਾਕ੝ ਪਵਿਤ੝ ॥ Ŧĝ ho▫ĝ pĝk paviṯ. then the food becomes pure and sanctified.

ਪਾਪੀ ਸਿਉ ਤਨ੝ ਗਡਿਆ ਥ੝ਕਾ ਪਈਆ ਤਿਤ੝ ॥ Pĝpī si▫o ṯan gadi▫ĝ thukĝ pa▫ī▫ĝ ṯiṯ. Coming into contact with the sinful human body, the food becomes so impure that is is spat upon.

ਜਿਤ੝ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਨਾਮ੝ ਨ ਊਚਰਹਿ ਬਿਨ੝ ਨਾਵੈ ਰਸ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ Jiṯ mukẖ nĝm na ūcẖrahi bin nĝvai ras kẖĝhi. That mouth which does not chant the Naam, and without the Name eats tasty foods -

ਨਾਨਕ ਝਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਤਿਤ੝ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਥ੝ਕਾ ਪਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ Nĝnak evai jĝṇī▫ai ṯiṯ mukẖ thukĝ pĝhi. ||1|| O Nanak, know this: such a mouth is to be spat upon. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥ Mėhlĝ 1. First Mehl:

ਭੰਡਿ ਜੰਮੀਝ ਭੰਡਿ ਨਿੰਮੀਝ ਭੰਡਿ ਮੰਗਣ੝ ਵੀਆਹ੝ ॥ Bẖand jammī▫ai bẖand nimmī▫ai bẖand mangaṇ vī▫ĝhu. From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married.

ਭੰਡਹ੝ ਹੋਵੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਭੰਡਹ੝ ਚਲੈ ਰਾਹ੝ ॥ Bẖandahu hovai ḝosṯī bẖandahu cẖalai rĝhu. Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come.

ਭੰਡ੝ ਮ੝ਆ ਭੰਡ੝ ਭਾਲੀਝ ਭੰਡਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਬੰਧਾਨ੝ ॥ Bẖand mu▫ĝ bẖand bẖĝlī▫ai bẖand hovai banḝẖĝn. When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound.

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮੰਦਾ ਆਖੀਝ ਜਿਤ੝ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾਨ ॥ So ki▫o manḝĝ ĝkẖī▫ai jiṯ jamėh rĝjĝn. So why call her bad? From her, kings are born.

ਭੰਡਹ੝ ਹੀ ਭੰਡ੝ ਊਪਜੈ ਭੰਡੈ ਬਾਝ੝ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ Bẖandahu hī bẖand ūpjai bẖandai bĝjẖ na ko▫e. From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭੰਡੈ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਝਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥ Nĝnak bẖandai bĝhrĝ eko sacẖĝ so▫e. O Nanak, only the True Lord is without a woman.

ਜਿਤ੝ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਝ ਭਾਗਾ ਰਤੀ ਚਾਰਿ ॥ Jiṯ mukẖ saḝĝ salĝhī▫ai bẖĝgĝ raṯī cẖĝr. That mouth which praises the Lord continually is blessed and beautiful.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮ੝ਖ ਊਜਲੇ ਤਿਤ੝ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ Nĝnak ṯe mukẖ ūjle ṯiṯ sacẖai ḝarbĝr. ||2|| O Nanak, those faces shall be radiant in the Court of the True Lord. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ ॥ Pa▫oṛī. Pauree:

ਸਭ੝ ਕੋ ਆਖੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਸ੝ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੋ ਚ੝ਣਿ ਕਢੀਝ ॥ Sabẖ ko ĝkẖai ĝpṇĝ jis nĝhī so cẖuṇ kadẖī▫ai. All call You their own, Lord; one who does not own You, is picked up and thrown away.

ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਲੇਖਾ ਸੰਢੀਝ ॥ Kīṯĝ ĝpo ĝpṇĝ ĝpe hī lekẖĝ sandẖī▫ai. Everyone receives the rewards of his own actions; his account is adjusted accordingly.

ਜਾ ਰਹਣਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਝਤ੝ ਜਗਿ ਤਾ ਕਾਇਤ੝ ਗਾਰਬਿ ਹੰਢੀਝ ॥ Jĝ rahṇĝ nĝhī aiṯ jag ṯĝ kĝ▫iṯ gĝrab handẖī▫ai. Since one is not destined to remain in this world anyway, why should he ruin himself in pride?

ਮੰਦਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਖੀਝ ਪੜਿ ਅਖਰ੝ ਝਹੋ ਬ੝ਝੀਝ ॥ Manḝĝ kisai na ĝkẖī▫ai paṛ akẖar eho bujẖī▫ai. Do not call anyone bad; read these words, and understand.

ਮੂਰਖੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਲ੝ਝੀਝ ॥੧੯॥ Mūrkẖai nĝl na lujẖī▫ai. ||19|| Don't argue with fools. ||19||

ਸਲੋਕ੝ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ Salok mėhlĝ 1. Shalok, First Mehl:

ਨਾਨਕ ਫਿਕੈ ਬੋਲਿਝ ਤਨ੝ ਮਨ੝ ਫਿਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ Nĝnak fikai boli▫ai ṯan man fikĝ ho▫e. O Nanak, speaking insipid words, the body and mind become insipid.

ਫਿਕੋ ਫਿਕਾ ਸਦੀਝ ਫਿਕੇ ਫਿਕੀ ਸੋਇ ॥ Fiko fikĝ saḝī▫ai fike fikī so▫e. He is called the most insipid of the insipid; the most insipid of the insipid is his reputation.

ਫਿਕਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਸਟੀਝ ਮ੝ਹਿ ਥ੝ਕਾ ਫਿਕੇ ਪਾਇ ॥ Fikĝ ḝargėh satī▫ai muhi thukĝ fike pĝ▫e. The insipid person is discarded in the Court of the Lord, and the insipid one's face is spat upon.

ਫਿਕਾ ਮੂਰਖ੝ ਆਖੀਝ ਪਾਣਾ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ Fikĝ mūrakẖ ĝkẖī▫ai pĝṇĝ lahai sajĝ▫e. ||1|| The insipid one is called a fool; he is beaten with shoes in punishment. ||1||

ਮਃ ੧ ॥ Mėhlĝ 1. First Mehl:

ਅੰਦਰਹ੝ ਝੂਠੇ ਪੈਜ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਦ੝ਨੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਫੈਲ੝ ॥ Anḝrahu jẖūṯẖe paij bĝhar ḝunī▫ĝ anḝar fail. Those who are false within, and honorable on the outside, are very common in this world.

ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਜੇ ਨਾਵਹਿ ਉਤਰੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈਲ੝ ॥ Aṯẖsaṯẖ ṯirath je nĝvėh uṯrai nĝhī mail. Even though they may bathe at the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, still, their filth does not depart.

ਜਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹ ਪਟ੝ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਗ੝ਦੜ੝ ਤੇ ਭਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ Jinĥ pat anḝar bĝhar guḝaṛ ṯe bẖale sansĝr. Those who have silk on the inside and rags on the outside, are the good ones in this world.

ਤਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹ ਨੇਹ੝ ਲਗਾ ਰਬ ਸੇਤੀ ਦੇਖਨ੝ਹ੝ਹੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ Ŧinĥ nehu lagĝ rab seṯī ḝekẖnĥe vīcẖĝr. They embrace love for the Lord, and contemplate beholding Him.

ਰੰਗਿ ਹਸਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਚ੝ਪ ਭੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥ Rang hasėh rang rovėh cẖup bẖī kar jĝhi. In the Lord's Love, they laugh, and in the Lord's Love, they weep, and also keep silent.

ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੇਰੀ ਬਾਝ੝ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਹ ॥ Parvĝh nĝhī kisai kerī bĝjẖ sacẖe nĝh. They do not care for anything else, except their True Husband Lord.

ਦਰਿ ਵਾਟ ਉਪਰਿ ਖਰਚ੝ ਮੰਗਾ ਜਬੈ ਦੇਇ ਤ ਖਾਹਿ ॥ Ḏar vĝt upar kẖaracẖ mangĝ jabai ḝe▫e ṯa kẖĝhi. Sitting, waiting at the Lord's Door, they beg for food, and when He gives to them, they eat.

ਦੀਬਾਨ੝ ਝਕੋ ਕਲਮ ਝਕਾ ਹਮਾ ਤ੝ਮ੝ਹ੝ਹਾ ਮੇਲ੝ ॥ Ḏībĝn eko kalam ekĝ hamĝ ṯumĥĝ mel. There is only One Court of the Lord, and He has only one pen; there, you and I shall meet.

ਦਰਿ ਲਝ ਲੇਖਾ ਪੀੜਿ ਛ੝ਟੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਲ੝ ॥੨॥ Ḏar la▫e lekẖĝ pīṛ cẖẖutai nĝnkĝ ji▫o ṯel. ||2|| In the Court of the Lord, the accounts are examined; O Nanak, the sinners are crushed, like oil seeds in the press. ||2||
