| ਅੰਧੀ ਰਯਤਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਭਰੇ ਮਰਦਾਰ ॥ |
| Anḝẖī reaṯ gi▫ĝn vihūṇī bẖĝhi bẖare murḝĝr. |
| Their subjects are blind, and without wisdom, they try to please the will of the dead. |
| ਗਿਆਨੀ ਨਚਹਿ ਵਾਜੇ ਵਾਵਹਿ ਰੂਪ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥ |
| Gi▫ĝnī nacẖėh vĝje vĝvėh rūp karahi sīgĝr. |
| The spiritually wise dance and play their musical instruments, adorning themselves with beautiful decorations. |
| ਊਚੇ ਕੂਕਹਿ ਵਾਦਾ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜੋਧਾ ਕਾ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥ |
| Ūcẖe kūkėh vĝḝĝ gĝvahi joḝẖĝ kĝ vīcẖĝr. |
| They shout out loud, and sing epic poems and heroic stories. |
| ਮੂਰਖ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹਜਤਿ ਸੰਜੈ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ |
| Mūrakẖ pandiṯ hikmaṯ hujaṯ sanjai karahi pi▫ĝr. |
| The fools call themselves spiritual scholars, and by their clever tricks, they love to gather wealth. |
| ਧਰਮੀ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਗਾਵਾਵਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਮੋਖ ਦਆਰ ॥ |
| Ḏẖarmī ḝẖaram karahi gĝvĝvėh mangėh mokẖ ḝu▫ĝr. |
| The righteous waste their righteousness, by asking for the door of salvation. |
| ਜਤੀ ਸਦਾਵਹਿ ਜਗਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਛਡਿ ਬਹਹਿ ਘਰ ਬਾਰ ॥ |
| Jaṯī saḝĝvėh jugaṯ na jĝṇėh cẖẖad bahėh gẖar bĝr. |
| They call themselves celibate, and abandon their homes, but they do not know the true way of life. |
| ਸਭ ਕੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਟਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਆਖੈ ॥ |
| Sabẖ ko pūrĝ ĝpe hovai gẖat na ko▫ī ĝkẖai. |
| Everyone calls himself perfect; none call themselves imperfect. |
| ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਾਈਝ ਤਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੋਲਿਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥ |
| Paṯ parvĝṇĝ picẖẖai pĝ▫ī▫ai ṯĝ Nĝnak ṯoli▫ĝ jĝpai. ॥2॥ |
| If the weight of honor is placed on the scale, then, O Nanak, one sees his true weight. ॥2॥ |

| First Mehl: |
| ਵਦੀ ਸ ਵਜਗਿ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚਾ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| vaḝī so vajag nĝnkĝ sacẖĝ vekẖai so▫e. |
| Evil actions become publicly known; O Nanak, the True Lord sees everything. |
| ਸਭਨੀ ਛਾਲਾ ਮਾਰੀਆ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| Sabẖnī cẖẖĝlĝ mĝrī▫ĝ karṯĝ kare so ho▫e. |
| Everyone makes the attempt, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does. |
| ਅਗੈ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜੋਰ ਹੈ ਅਗੈ ਜੀਉ ਨਵੇ ॥ |
| Agai jĝṯ na jor hai agai jī▫o nave. |
| In the world hereafter, social status and power mean nothing; hereafter, the soul is new. |
| ਜਿਨ ਕੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਵੈ ਚੰਗੇ ਸੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥੩॥ |
| Jin kī lekẖai paṯ pavai cẖange se▫ī ke▫e. ॥3॥ |
| Those few, whose honor is confirmed, are good. ॥3॥ |
| ਪਉੜੀ ॥ |
| Pa▫oṛī. |
| Pauree: |
| ਧਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਜਿਨਾ ਕਉ ਤਧ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਤਿਨੀ ਖਸਮ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥ |
| Ḏẖur karam jinĝ ka▫o ṯuḝẖ pĝ▫i▫ĝ ṯĝ ṯinī kẖasam ḝẖi▫ĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
| Only those whose karma You have pre-ordained from the very beginning, O Lord, meditate on You. |
| ਝਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛ ਨਾਹੀ ਤਧ ਵੇਕੀ ਜਗਤ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ |
| Ėnĝ janṯĝ kai vas kicẖẖ nĝhī ṯuḝẖ vekī jagaṯ upĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
| Nothing is in the power of these beings; You created the various worlds. |
| ਇਕਨਾ ਨੋ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਇਕਿ ਆਪਹ ਤਧ ਖਆਇਆ ॥ |
| Iknĝ no ṯūʼn mel laihi ik ĝphu ṯuḝẖ kẖu▫ĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
| Some, You unite with Yourself, and some, You lead astray. |
| ਗਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਿਥੈ ਤਧ ਆਪ ਬਝਾਇਆ ॥ |
| Gur kirpĝ ṯe jĝṇi▫ĝ jithai ṯuḝẖ ĝp bujẖĝ▫i▫ĝ. |
| By Guru's Grace You are known; through Him, You reveal Yourself. |
| ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧੧॥ |
| Sėhje hī sacẖ samĝ▫i▫ĝ. ॥11॥ |
| We are easily absorbed in You. ॥11॥ |
| ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ |
| Salok mėhlĝ 1. |
| Shalok, First Mehl: |
| ਦਖ ਦਾਰੂ ਸਖ ਰੋਗ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਖ ਤਾਮਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ |
| Ḏukẖ ḝĝrū sukẖ rog bẖa▫i▫ĝ jĝ sukẖ ṯĝm na ho▫ī. |
| Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God. |
| ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾ ਹਉ ਕਰੀ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ |
| Ŧūʼn karṯĝ karṇĝ mai nĝhī jĝ ha▫o karī na ho▫ī. ॥1॥ |
| You are the Creator Lord; I can do nothing. Even if I try, nothing happens. ॥1॥ |
| ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਕਦਰਤਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥ |
| Balihĝrī kuḝraṯ vasi▫ĝ. |
| I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power which is pervading everywhere. |
| ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ |
| Ŧerĝ anṯ na jĝ▫ī lakẖi▫ĝ. ॥1॥ rahĝ▫o. |
| Your limits cannot be known. ॥1॥Pause॥ |
| ਜਾਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਅਕਲ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥ |
| Jĝṯ mėh joṯ joṯ mėh jĝṯĝ akal kalĝ bẖarpūr rahi▫ĝ. |
| Your Light is in Your creatures, and Your creatures are in Your Light; Your almighty power is pervading everywhere. |
| ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਆਲਹਹਿਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥ |
| Ŧūʼn sacẖĝ sĝhib sifaṯ su▫ĝliha▫o jin kīṯī so pĝr pa▫i▫ĝ. |
| You are the True Lord and Master; Your Praise is so beautiful. One who sings it, is carried across. |
| ਕਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਕਿਛ ਕਰਣਾ ਸ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥ |
| Kaho Nĝnak karṯe kī▫ĝ bĝṯĝ jo kicẖẖ karṇĝ so kar rahi▫ĝ. ॥2॥ |
| Nanak speaks the stories of the Creator Lord; whatever He is to do, He does. ॥2॥ |

| Second Mehl: |
| ਜੋਗ ਸਬਦੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਸਬਦੰ ਬੇਦ ਸਬਦੰ ਬਰਾਹਮਣਹ ॥ |
| Jog sabḝaʼn gi▫ĝn sabḝaʼn beḝ sabḝaʼn barĝhmaṇėh. |
| The Way of Yoga is the Way of spiritual wisdom; the Vedas are the Way of the Brahmins. |
| ਖਤਰੀ ਸਬਦੰ ਸੂਰ ਸਬਦੰ ਸੂਦਰ ਸਬਦੰ ਪਰਾ ਕਰਿਤਹ ॥ |
| Kẖaṯrī sabḝaʼn sūr sabḝaʼn sūḝar sabḝaʼn parĝ kirṯėh. |
| The Way of the Khshatriya is the Way of bravery; the Way of the Shudras is service to others. |
| ਸਰਬ ਸਬਦੰ ਝਕ ਸਬਦੰ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥ |
| Sarab sabḝaʼn ek sabḝaʼn je ko jĝṇai bẖe▫o. |
| One who knows this secret that the Way of all is the Way of the One; |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੩॥ |
| Nĝnak ṯĝ kĝ ḝĝs hai so▫ī niranjan ḝe▫o. ॥3॥ |
| Nanak is a slave to him, he himself is the Immaculate Divine Lord. ॥3॥ |

| Mėhlĝ 2. |
| Second Mehl: |
| ਝਕ ਕਰਿਸਨੰ ਸਰਬ ਦੇਵਾ ਦੇਵ ਦੇਵਾ ਤ ਆਤਮਾ ॥ |
| Ėk krisanʼn sarab ḝevĝ ḝev ḝevĝ ṯa ĝṯmĝ. |
| The One Lord Krishna is the Divine Lord of all; He is the Divinity of the individual soul. |
| ਆਤਮਾ ਬਾਸਦੇਵਸਯਯਿ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਭੇਉ ॥ |
| Āṯmĝ bĝsḝevsi▫y je ko jĝṇai bẖe▫o. |
| One who understands the mystery of all-pervading Lord; |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥੪॥ |
| Nĝnak ṯĝ kĝ ḝĝs hai so▫ī niranjan ḝe▫o. ॥4॥ |
| Nanak is a slave to him; he himself is the Immaculate Divine Lord. ॥4॥ |

| ਕੰਭੇ ਬਧਾ ਜਲ ਰਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨ ਕੰਭ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| Kumbẖe baḝẖĝ jal rahai jal bin kumbẖ na ho▫e. |
| Water remains confined within the pitcher, but without water, the pitcher could not have been formed; |
| ਗਿਆਨ ਕਾ ਬਧਾ ਮਨ ਰਹੈ ਗਰ ਬਿਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ |
| Gi▫ĝn kĝ baḝẖĝ man rahai gur bin gi▫ĝn na ho▫e. ॥5॥ |
| just so, the mind is restrained by spiritual wisdom, but without the Guru, there is no spiritual wisdom. ॥5॥ |
| ਪਉੜੀ ॥ |
| Pa▫oṛī. |
| Pauree: |
| ਪੜਿਆ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਨਹਗਾਰ ਤਾ ਓਮੀ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਮਾਰੀਝ ॥ |
| Paṛi▫ĝ hovai gunahgĝr ṯĝ omī sĝḝẖ na mĝrī▫ai. |
| If an educated person is a sinner, then the illiterate holy man is not to be punished. |
| ਜੇਹਾ ਘਾਲੇ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਤੇਵੇਹੋ ਨਾਉ ਪਚਾਰੀਝ ॥ |
| Jehĝ gẖĝle gẖĝlṇĝ ṯeveho nĝ▫o pacẖĝrī▫ai. |
| As are the deeds done, so is the reputation one acquires. |
| ਝਸੀ ਕਲਾ ਨ ਖੇਡੀਝ ਜਿਤ ਦਰਗਹ ਗਇਆ ਹਾਰੀਝ ॥ |
| Aisī kalĝ na kẖedī▫ai jiṯ ḝargėh ga▫i▫ĝ hĝrī▫ai. |
| So do not play such a game, which will bring you to ruin at the Court of the Lord. |
| ਪੜਿਆ ਅਤੈ ਓਮੀਆ ਵੀਚਾਰ ਅਗੈ ਵੀਚਾਰੀਝ ॥ |
| Paṛi▫ĝ aṯai omī▫ĝ vīcẖĝr agai vīcẖĝrī▫ai. |
| The accounts of the educated and the illiterate shall be judged in the world hereafter. |
| ਮਹਿ ਚਲੈ ਸ ਅਗੈ ਮਾਰੀਝ ॥੧੨॥ |
| Muhi cẖalai so agai mĝrī▫ai. ॥12॥ |
| One who stubbornly follows his own mind shall suffer in the world hereafter. ॥12॥ |
