| ਸਤਿਗਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਸੋ ਸਖ ਪਾਝ ॥ |
| Saṯgur bẖete so sukẖ pĝ▫e. |
| One who meets the True Guru finds peace. |
| ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਝ ॥ |
| Har kĝ nĝm man vasĝ▫e. |
| He enshrines the Name of the Lord in his mind. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਪਾਝ ॥ |
| Nĝnak naḝar kare so pĝ▫e. |
| O Nanak, when the Lord grants His Grace, He is obtained. |
| ਆਸ ਅੰਦੇਸੇ ਤੇ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਝ ॥੨॥ |
| Ās anḝese ṯe nihkeval ha▫umai sabaḝ jalĝ▫e. ॥2॥ |
| He becomes free of hope and fear, and burns away his ego with the Word of the Shabad. ॥2॥ |

| Pauree: |
| ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵਦੇ ਦਰਿ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਵਦੇ ॥ |
| Bẖagaṯ ṯerai man bẖĝvḝe ḝar sohan kīraṯ gĝvḝe. |
| Your devotees are pleasing to Your Mind, Lord. They look beautiful at Your door, singing Your Praises. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮਾ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਦਰਿ ਢੋਅ ਨ ਲਹਨਹਹੀ ਧਾਵਦੇ ॥ |
| Nĝnak karmĝ bĝhre ḝar dẖo▫a na lėhnĥī ḝẖĝvḝe. |
| O Nanak, those who are denied Your Grace, find no shelter at Your Door; they continue wandering. |
| ਇਕਿ ਮੂਲ ਨ ਬਝਨਹਹਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਣਹੋਦਾ ਆਪ ਗਣਾਇਦੇ ॥ |
| Ik mūl na bujẖniĥ ĝpṇĝ aṇhoḝĝ ĝp gaṇĝ▫iḝe. |
| Some do not understand their origins, and without cause, they display their self-conceit. |
| ਹਉ ਢਾਢੀ ਕਾ ਨੀਚ ਜਾਤਿ ਹੋਰਿ ਉਤਮ ਜਾਤਿ ਸਦਾਇਦੇ ॥ |
| Ha▫o dẖĝdẖī kĝ nīcẖ jĝṯ hor uṯam jĝṯ saḝĝ▫iḝe. |
| I am the Lord's minstrel, of low social status; others call themselves high caste. |
| ਤਿਨਹਹ ਮੰਗਾ ਜਿ ਤਝੈ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ॥੯॥ |
| Ŧinĥ mangĝ jė ṯujẖai ḝẖi▫ĝ▫iḝe. ॥9॥ |
| I seek those who meditate on You. ॥9॥ |

| Salok mėhlĝ 1. |
| Shalok, First Mehl: |
| ਕੂੜ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੂੜ ਪਰਜਾ ਕੂੜ ਸਭ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ rĝjĝ kūṛ parjĝ kūṛ sabẖ sansĝr. |
| False is the king, false are the subjects; false is the whole world. |
| ਕੂੜ ਮੰਡਪ ਕੂੜ ਮਾੜੀ ਕੂੜ ਬੈਸਣਹਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ mandap kūṛ mĝṛī kūṛ baisaṇhĝr. |
| False is the mansion, false are the skyscrapers; false are those who live in them. |
| ਕੂੜ ਸਇਨਾ ਕੂੜ ਰਪਾ ਕੂੜ ਪੈਨਹਹਣਹਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ su▫inĝ kūṛ rupĝ kūṛ painĥaṇhĝr. |
| False is gold, and false is silver; false are those who wear them. |
| ਕੂੜ ਕਾਇਆ ਕੂੜ ਕਪੜ ਕੂੜ ਰੂਪ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ kĝ▫i▫ĝ kūṛ kapaṛ kūṛ rūp apĝr. |
| False is the body, false are the clothes; false is incomparable beauty. |
| ਕੂੜ ਮੀਆ ਕੂੜ ਬੀਬੀ ਖਪਿ ਹੋਝ ਖਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ mī▫ĝ kūṛ bībī kẖap ho▫e kẖĝr. |
| False is the husband, false is the wife; they mourn and waste away. |
| ਕੂੜਿ ਕੂੜੈ ਨੇਹ ਲਗਾ ਵਿਸਰਿਆ ਕਰਤਾਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ kūrhai nehu lagĝ visri▫ĝ karṯĝr. |
| The false ones love falsehood, and forget their Creator. |
| ਕਿਸ ਨਾਲਿ ਕੀਚੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਸਭ ਜਗ ਚਲਣਹਾਰ ॥ |
| Kis nĝl kīcẖai ḝosṯī sabẖ jag cẖalaṇhĝr. |
| With whom should I become friends, if all the world shall pass away? |
| ਕੂੜ ਮਿਠਾ ਕੂੜ ਮਾਖਿਉ ਕੂੜ ਡੋਬੇ ਪੂਰ ॥ |
| Kūṛ miṯẖĝ kūṛ mĝkẖi▫o kūṛ dobe pūr. |
| False is sweetness, false is honey; through falsehood, boat-loads of men have drowned. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਤਧ ਬਾਝ ਕੂੜੋ ਕੂੜ ॥੧॥ |
| Nĝnak vakẖĝṇai benṯī ṯuḝẖ bĝjẖ kūṛo kūṛ. ॥1॥ |
| Nanak speaks this prayer: without You, Lord, everything is totally false. ॥1॥ |

| First Mehl: |
| ਸਚ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਜਾ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਚਾ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| Sacẖ ṯĝ par jĝṇī▫ai jĝ riḝai sacẖĝ ho▫e. |
| One knows the Truth only when the Truth is in his heart. |
| ਕੂੜ ਕੀ ਮਲ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਨ ਕਰੇ ਹਛਾ ਧੋਇ ॥ |
| Kūṛ kī mal uṯrai ṯan kare hacẖẖĝ ḝẖo▫e. |
| The filth of falsehood departs, and the body is washed clean. |
| ਸਚ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ ॥ |
| Sacẖ ṯĝ par jĝṇī▫ai jĝ sacẖ ḝẖare pi▫ĝr. |
| One knows the Truth only when he bears love to the True Lord. |
| ਨਾਉ ਸਣਿ ਮਨ ਰਹਸੀਝ ਤਾ ਪਾਝ ਮੋਖ ਦਆਰ ॥ |
| Nĝ▫o suṇ man rėhsī▫ai ṯĝ pĝ▫e mokẖ ḝu▫ĝr. |
| Hearing the Name, the mind is enraptured; then, he attains the gate of salvation. |
| ਸਚ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਜਾ ਜਗਤਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੀਉ ॥ |
| Sacẖ ṯĝ par jĝṇī▫ai jĝ jugaṯ jĝṇai jī▫o. |
| One knows the Truth only when he knows the true way of life. |
| ਧਰਤਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਿ ਕੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੇਇ ਕਰਤਾ ਬੀਉ ॥ |
| Ḏẖaraṯ kĝ▫i▫ĝ sĝḝẖ kai vicẖ ḝe▫e karṯĝ bī▫o. |
| Preparing the field of the body, he plants the Seed of the Creator. |
| ਸਚ ਤਾ ਪਰ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਜਾ ਸਿਖ ਸਚੀ ਲੇਇ ॥ |
| Sacẖ ṯĝ par jĝṇī▫ai jĝ sikẖ sacẖī le▫e. |
| One knows the Truth only when he receives true instruction. |
| ਦਇਆ ਜਾਣੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਿਛ ਪੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ |
| Ḏa▫i▫ĝ jĝṇai jī▫a kī kicẖẖ punn ḝĝn kare▫i. |
| Showing mercy to other beings, he makes donations to charities. |
| ਸਚ ਤਾਂ ਪਰ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਜਾ ਆਤਮ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥ |
| Sacẖ ṯĝʼn par jĝṇī▫ai jĝ ĝṯam ṯirath kare nivĝs. |
| One knows the Truth only when he dwells in the sacred shrine of pilgrimage of his own soul. |
| ਸਤਿਗਰੂ ਨੋ ਪਛਿ ਕੈ ਬਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਵਾਸ ॥ |
| Saṯgurū no pucẖẖ kai bahi rahai kare nivĝs. |
| He sits and receives instruction from the True Guru, and lives in accordance with His Will. |
| ਸਚ ਸਭਨਾ ਹੋਇ ਦਾਰੂ ਪਾਪ ਕਢੈ ਧੋਇ ॥ |
| Sacẖ sabẖnĝ ho▫e ḝĝrū pĝp kadẖai ḝẖo▫e. |
| Truth is the medicine for all; it removes and washes away our sins. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਜਿਨ ਸਚ ਪਲੈ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥ |
| Nĝnak vakẖĝṇai benṯī jin sacẖ palai ho▫e. ॥2॥ |
| Nanak speaks this prayer to those who have Truth in their laps. ॥2॥ |
| ਪਉੜੀ ॥ |

| Pauree: |
| ਦਾਨ ਮਹਿੰਡਾ ਤਲੀ ਖਾਕ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਈਝ ॥ |
| Ḏĝn mahindĝ ṯalī kẖĝk je milai ṯa masṯak lĝ▫ī▫ai. |
| The gift I seek is the dust of the feet of the Saints; if I were to obtain it, I would apply it to my forehead. |
| ਕੂੜਾ ਲਾਲਚ ਛਡੀਝ ਹੋਇ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਅਲਖ ਧਿਆਈਝ ॥ |
| Kūṛĝ lĝlacẖ cẖẖadī▫ai ho▫e ik man alakẖ ḝẖi▫ĝ▫ī▫ai. |
| Renounce false greed, and meditate single-mindedly on the unseen Lord. |
| ਫਲ ਤੇਵੇਹੋ ਪਾਈਝ ਜੇਵੇਹੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਝ ॥ |
| Fal ṯeveho pĝ▫ī▫ai jevehī kĝr kamĝ▫ī▫ai. |
| As are the actions we commit, so are the rewards we receive. |
| ਜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਾ ਧੂੜਿ ਤਿਨਹਹਾ ਦੀ ਪਾਈਝ ॥ |
| Je hovai pūrab likẖi▫ĝ ṯĝ ḝẖūṛ ṯinĥĝ ḝī pĝ▫ī▫ai. |
| If it is so pre-ordained, then one obtains the dust of the feet of the Saints. |
| ਮਤਿ ਥੋੜੀ ਸੇਵ ਗਵਾਈਝ ॥੧੦॥ |
| Maṯ thoṛī sev gavĝ▫ī▫ai. ॥10॥ |
| But through small-mindedness, we forfeit the merits of selfless service. ॥10॥ |
| ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥ |

| Shalok, First Mehl: |
| ਸਚਿ ਕਾਲ ਕੂੜ ਵਰਤਿਆ ਕਲਿ ਕਾਲਖ ਬੇਤਾਲ ॥ |
| Sacẖ kĝl kūṛ varṯi▫ĝ kal kĝlakẖ beṯĝl. |
| There is a famine of Truth; falsehood prevails, and the blackness of the Dark Age of Kali Yuga has turned men into demons. |
| ਬੀਉ ਬੀਜਿ ਪਤਿ ਲੈ ਗਝ ਅਬ ਕਿਉ ਉਗਵੈ ਦਾਲਿ ॥ |
| Bī▫o bīj paṯ lai ga▫e ab ki▫o ugvai ḝĝl. |
| Those who planted their seed have departed with honor; now, how can the shattered seed sprout? |
| ਜੇ ਇਕ ਹੋਇ ਤ ਉਗਵੈ ਰਤੀ ਹੂ ਰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| Je ik ho▫e ṯa ugvai ruṯī hū ruṯ ho▫e. |
| If the seed is whole, and it is the proper season, then the seed will sprout. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਹੈ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਕੋਰੈ ਰੰਗ ਨ ਸੋਇ ॥ |
| Nĝnak pĝhai bĝhrĝ korai rang na so▫e. |
| O Nanak, without treatment, the raw fabric cannot be dyed. |
| ਭੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਖੰਬਿ ਚੜਾਈਝ ਸਰਮ ਪਾਹ ਤਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥ |
| Bẖai vicẖ kẖumb cẖaṛĝ▫ī▫ai saram pĝhu ṯan ho▫e. |
| In the Fear of God it is bleached white, if the treatment of modesty is applied to the cloth of the body. |
| ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੀ ਜੇ ਰਪੈ ਕੂੜੈ ਸੋਇ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ |
| Nĝnak bẖagṯī je rapai kūrhai so▫e na ko▫e. ॥1॥ |
| O Nanak, if one is imbued with devotional worship, his reputation is not false. ॥1॥ |

| First Mehl: |
| ਲਬ ਪਾਪ ਦਇ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਹਤਾ ਕੂੜ ਹੋਆ ਸਿਕਦਾਰ ॥ |
| Lab pĝp ḝu▫e rĝjĝ mahṯĝ kūṛ ho▫ĝ sikḝĝr. |
| Greed and sin are the king and prime minister; falsehood is the treasurer. |
| ਕਾਮ ਨੇਬ ਸਦਿ ਪਛੀਝ ਬਹਿ ਬਹਿ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ |
| Kĝm neb saḝ pucẖẖī▫ai bahi bahi kare bīcẖĝr. |
| Sexual desire, the chief advisor, is summoned and consulted; they all sit together and contemplate their plans. |
