Bachitar Natak: Birth of the Poet
This Bani is part of the Bachitar Natak which is the third main composition in the Dasam Granth, the second holy Scripture of the Sikhs. The first two compositions in the Dasam Granth are Jaap Sahib and Akal Ustat.

ਭਾਗ भाग SECTION ਅਥ ਕਬਿ ਜਨਮ ਕਥਨੰ ॥ अथ कबि जनम कथनं ॥ HERE BEGINS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE BIRTH OF THE POET. ਚੌਪਈ ॥ चौपई ॥ CHAUPAI ਮਰ ਪਿਤ ਪੂਰਬ ਕੀਯਿਸਿ ਪਯਾਨਾ ॥ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੇ ਤੀਰਿਥ ਨਾਨਾ ॥ मढ़र पित पूरब कीयिसि पयाना ॥ भांति भांति के तीरिथ नाना ॥ My father proceeded towards the east and visited several places of pilgrimage. ਜਬ ਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਤਰਿਬੇਣੀ ਭਝ ॥ ਪੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਿਨ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਤਝ ॥੧॥ जब ही जाति तढ़रिबेणी भझ ॥ पढ़ंन दान दिन करत बितझ ॥१॥ When he went to Triveni (Prayag), he passed his days in act of charity.1. ਤਹੀ ਪਰਕਾਸ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਭਯੋ ॥ ਪਟਨਾ ਸਹਰ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਵ ਲਯੋ ॥ तही पढ़रकास हमारा भयो ॥ पटना सहर बिखै भव लयो ॥ I was conceived there and took birth at Patna. ਮਦਰ ਦੇਸ ਹਮ ਕੋ ਲੇ ਆਝ ॥ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਦਾਈਅਨਿ ਦਲਰਾਝ ॥੨॥ मदढ़र देस हम को ले आझ ॥ भांति भांति दाईअनि दढ़लराझ ॥२॥ Whence I was brought to Madra Desh (Punjab), where I was caressed by various nurses.2 ਕੀਨੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਤਨ ਰਛਾ ॥ ਦੀਨੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਕੀ ਸਿਛਾ ॥ कीनी अनिक भांति तन रछा ॥ दीनी भांति भांति की सिछा ॥ I was given physical protection in various ways and given various types of education. ਜਬ ਹਮ ਧਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਮੋ ਆਝ ॥ ਦੇਵ ਲੋਕ ਤਬ ਪਿਤਾ ਸਿਧਾਝ ॥੩॥ जब हम धरम करम मो आझ ॥ देव लोक तब पिता सिधाझ ॥३॥ When I began to perform the act of Dharma (righteousness), my father departed for his heavenly abode.3. ਇਤਿ ਸਰੀ ਬਚਿਤਰ ਨਾਟਕ ਗਰੰਥੇ ਕਬਿ ਜਨਮ ਕਥਨੰ ਨਾਮ ਸਪਤਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤ ਸਭਮ ਸਤ ॥੭॥ ਅਫਜੂ ॥੨੮੨॥ इति सढ़री बचितढ़र नाटक गढ़रंथे कबि जनम कथनं नाम सपतमो धिआइ समापतम सतढ़ सढ़भम सतढ़ ॥७॥ अफजू ॥२८२॥ End of the Seventh Chapter of BACHITTTAR NATAK entitled Description of the Poet.7.282
