|Ŧap ṯap luhi luhi hĝth marora▫o.

|Burning and burning, writhing in pain, I wring my hands.}}

{{g|ਬਾਵਲਿ ਹੋਈ ਸੋ ਸਹ੝ ਲੋਰਉ ॥

|Bĝval ho▫ī so saho lora▫o.

|I have gone insane, seeking my Husband Lord.}}

{{g|ਤੈ ਸਹਿ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਕੀਆ ਰੋਸ੝ ॥

|Ŧai sėh man mėh kī▫ĝ ros.

|O my Husband Lord, You are angry with me in Your Mind.}}

{{g|ਮ੝ਝ੝ ਅਵਗਨ ਸਹ ਨਾਹੀ ਦੋਸ੝ ॥੧॥

|Mujẖ avgan sah nĝhī ḝos. (1)

|The fault is with me, and not with my Husband Lord. (1)}}

{{g|ਤੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥

|Ŧai sĝhib kī mai sĝr na jĝnī.

|O my Lord and Master, I do not know Your excellence and worth.}}

{{g|ਜੋਬਨ੝ ਖੋਇ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛ੝ਤਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

|Joban kẖo▫e pĝcẖẖai pacẖẖuṯĝnī. (1) rahĝ▫o.

|Having wasted my youth, now I come to regret and repent. (1)(Pause)}}

|Kĝlī ko▫il ṯū kiṯ gun kĝlī.

|O black bird, what qualities have made you black?}}

{{g|ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੝ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਜਾਲੀ ॥

|Apne parīṯam ke ha▫o birhai jĝlī.

|I have been burnt by separation from my Beloved".}}

{{g|ਪਿਰਹਿ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਕਤਹਿ ਸ੝ਖ੝ ਪਾਝ ॥

|Pirėh bihūn kaṯėh sukẖ pĝ▫e.

|Without her Husband Lord, how can the soul-bride ever find peace?}}

{{g|ਜਾ ਹੋਇ ਕ੝ਰਿਪਾਲ੝ ਤਾ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾਝ ॥੨॥

|Jĝ ho▫e kirpĝl ṯĝ parabẖū milĝ▫e. (2)

|When He becomes merciful, then God unites us with Himself. (2)}}

{{g|ਵਿਧਣ ਖੂਹੀ ਮ੝ੰਧ ਇਕੇਲੀ ॥

|viḝẖaṇ kẖūhī munḝẖ ikelī.

|The lonely soul-bride suffers in the pit of the world.}}

{{g|ਨਾ ਕੋ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ॥

|Nĝ ko sĝthī nĝ ko belī.

|She has no companions, and no friends.}}

{{g|ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੝ਰਭਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮੇਲੀ ॥

|Kar kirpĝ parabẖ sĝḝẖsang melī.

|In His Mercy, God has united me with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.}}

{{g|ਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਅਲਹ੝ ਬੇਲੀ ॥੩॥

|Jĝ fir ḝekẖĝ ṯĝ merĝ alhu belī. (3)

|And when I look again, then I find God as my Helper. (3)}}

{{g|ਵਾਟ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਖਰੀ ਉਡੀਣੀ ॥

|vĝt hamĝrī kẖarī udīṇī.

|The path upon which I must walk is very depressing.}}

{{g|ਖੰਨਿਅਹ੝ ਤਿਖੀ ਬਹ੝ਤ੝ ਪਿਈਣੀ ॥

|Kẖanni▫ahu ṯikẖī bahuṯ pi▫īṇī.

|It is sharper than a two-edged sword, and very narrow.}}

{{g|ਉਸ੝ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੈ ਮਾਰਗ੝ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

|Us ūpar hai mĝrag merĝ.

|That is where my path lies.

|Beṛĝ banḝẖ na saki▫o banḝẖan kī velĝ.

|You were not able to make yourself a raft when you should have.}}

{{g|ਭਰਿ ਸਰਵਰ੝ ਜਬ ਊਛਲੈ ਤਬ ਤਰਣ੝ ਦ੝ਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥

|Bẖar sarvar jab ūcẖẖlai ṯab ṯaraṇ ḝuhelĝ. (1)

|When the ocean is churning and over-flowing, then it is very difficult to cross over it. (1)}}

{{g|ਹਥ੝ ਨ ਲਾਇ ਕਸ੝ੰਭੜੈ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ਢੋਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

|Hath na lĝ▫e kasumbẖ▫ṛai jal jĝsī dẖolĝ. (1) rahĝ▫o.

|Do not touch the safflower with your hands; its color will fade away, my dear. (1)(Pause)}}

{{g|ਇਕ ਆਪੀਨ੝ਹ੝ਹੈ ਪਤਲੀ ਸਹ ਕੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾ ॥

|Ik ĝpīnĥai paṯlī sah kere bolĝ.

|First, the bride herself is weak, and then, her Husband Lord's Order is hard to bear.}}

{{g|ਦ੝ਧਾ ਥਣੀ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਲਾ ॥੨॥

|Ḏuḝẖĝ thaṇī na ĝvī fir ho▫e na melĝ. (2)

|Milk does not return to the breast; it will not be collected again. (2)}}

{{g|ਕਹੈ ਫਰੀਦ੝ ਸਹੇਲੀਹੋ ਸਹ੝ ਅਲਾਝਸੀ ॥

|Kahai Farīḝ sahelīho saho alĝ▫esī.

|Says Fareed, O my companions, when our Husband Lord calls,}}

{{g|ਹੰਸ੝ ਚਲਸੀ ਡ੝ੰਮਣਾ ਅਹਿ ਤਨ੝ ਢੇਰੀ ਥੀਸੀ ॥੩॥੨॥

|Hans cẖalsī dummṇĝ ah ṯan dẖerī thīsī. (3)(2)

|the soul departs, sad at heart, and this body returns to dust. (3)(2)}}
