Sikh Temple at the start of the Nagar Kirtan Mela

The 'Sikh Temple Gurdwara Sserving as a cultural center for some 20,000 Sikhs who reside in and around Yuba City. The Gurdwara, which was was erected in 1969, sits on a 30 acre site.

Blessed by the grace of the Waheguru Ji, on the first Sunday of each November, an estimated 75,000 Sikh followers from all over the world converge at this site to join the crowds of local Sikhs and people of other religions in the annual Gurgiddi procession commemorating the receipt of the Sikh holy scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib that was given the Guruship by the last of the living Sikh Masters, Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1708.

Bring your family and join us each November in the Nagar Kirtan celebrations. All faiths are welcome. Free food will be served all week-end. Guided tours of the Gurdwara are available. Educational materials, video, and audio tapes on Sikh faith and culture will be available for sale.

Nagar Kirtan

‘Nagar’ means town and ‘Kirtan’ is a term that refers to the singing of hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib. The term, ‘Nagar Kirtan’ describes the most essential feature of the procession which is recitation of hymns from Guru Granth Sahib, as the Panj Piares (5 beloved ones) lead the procession through the town.
