ਗਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਾਦਰਾ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥

Gĝvai ko vekẖai hĝḝrĝ haḝūr.

Some sing that He watches over us, face to face, ever-present.

ਕਥਨਾ ਕਥੀ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਤੋਟਿ ॥

Kathnĝ kathī na ĝvai ṯot.

There is no shortage of those who preach and teach.

ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਕਥੀ ਕੋਟੀ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥

Kath kath kathī kotī kot kot.

Millions upon millions offer millions of sermons and stories.

ਦੇਦਾ ਦੇ ਲੈਦੇ ਥਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

Ḏeḝĝ ḝe laiḝe thak pĝhi.

The Great Giver keeps on giving, while those who receive grow weary of receiving.

ਜ੝ਗਾ ਜ੝ਗੰਤਰਿ ਖਾਹੀ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

Jugĝ juganṯar kẖĝhī kẖĝhi.

Throughout the ages, consumers consume.

ਹ੝ਕਮੀ ਹ੝ਕਮ੝ ਚਲਾਝ ਰਾਹ੝ ॥

Hukmī hukam cẖalĝ▫e rĝhu.

The Commander, by His Command, leads us to walk on the Path.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹ੝ ॥੩॥

Nĝnak vigsai veparvĝhu. ((3))

O Nanak, He blossoms forth, Carefree and Untroubled. ((3))

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ੝ ਸਾਚ੝ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰ੝ ॥

Sĝcẖĝ sĝhib sĝcẖ nĝ▫e bẖĝkẖi▫ĝ bẖĝ▫o apĝr.

True is the Master, True is His Name-speak it with infinite love.

ਆਖਹਿ ਮੰਗਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਾਤਾਰ੝ ॥

Ākẖahi mangahi ḝehi ḝehi ḝĝṯ kare ḝĝṯĝr.

People beg and pray, "Give to us, give to us", and the Great Giver gives His Gifts.

ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਝ ਜਿਤ੝ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰ੝ ॥

Fer kė agai rakẖī▫ai jiṯ ḝisai ḝarbĝr.

So what offering can we place before Him, by which we might see the Darbaar of His Court?

ਮ੝ਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣ੝ ਬੋਲੀਝ ਜਿਤ੝ ਸ੝ਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰ੝ ॥

Muhou kė bolaṇ bolī▫ai jiṯ suṇ ḝẖare pi▫ĝr.

What words can we speak to evoke His Love?

ਅੰਮ੝ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚ੝ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰ੝ ॥

Amriṯ velĝ sacẖ nĝ▫o vadi▫ĝ▫ī vīcẖĝr.

In the Amrit Vaylaa, the ambrosial hours before dawn, chant the True Name, and contemplate His Glorious Greatness.

ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖ੝ ਦ੝ਆਰ੝ ॥

Karmī ĝvai kapṛĝ naḝrī mokẖ ḝu▫ĝr.

By the karma of past actions, the robe of this physical body is obtained. By His Grace, the Gate of Liberation is found.

ਨਾਨਕ ਝਵੈ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਸਭ੝ ਆਪੇ ਸਚਿਆਰ੝ ॥੪॥

Nĝnak evai jĝṇī▫ai sabẖ ĝpe sacẖiĝr. ((4))

O Nanak, know this well: the True One Himself is All. ((4))

ਥਾਪਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕੀਤਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

Thĝpi▫ĝ na jĝ▫e kīṯĝ na ho▫e.

He cannot be established, He cannot be created.

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ੝ ਸੋਇ ॥

Āpe ĝp niranjan so▫e.

He Himself is Immaculate and Pure.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਨ੝ ॥

Jin sevi▫ĝ ṯin pĝ▫i▫ĝ mĝn.

Those who serve Him are honored.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਾਵੀਝ ਗ੝ਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨ੝ ॥

Nĝnak gĝvī▫ai guṇī niḝẖĝn.

O Nanak, sing of the Lord, the Treasure of Excellence.

ਗਾਵੀਝ ਸ੝ਣੀਝ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਝ ਭਾਉ ॥

Gĝvī▫ai suṇī▫ai man rakẖī▫ai bẖĝ▫o.

Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.

ਦ੝ਖ੝ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਸ੝ਖ੝ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥

Ḏukẖ parhar sukẖ gẖar lai jĝ▫e.

Your pain shall be sent far away, and peace shall come to your home.

ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਨਾਦੰ ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਵੇਦੰ ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥

Gurmukẖ nĝḝaʼn gurmukẖ veḝaʼn gurmukẖ rahi▫ĝ samĝ▫ī.

The Guru's Word is the Sound-current of the Naad; the Guru's Word is the Wisdom of the Vedas; the Guru's Word is all-pervading.

ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਈਸਰ੝ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਗੋਰਖ੝ ਬਰਮਾ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

Gur īsar gur gorakẖ barmĝ gur pĝrbaṯī mĝ▫ī.

The Guru is Shiva, the Guru is Vishnu and Brahma; the Guru is Paarvati and Lakhshmi.

ਜੇ ਹਉ ਜਾਣਾ ਆਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹਣਾ ਕਥਨ੝ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

Je ha▫o jĝṇĝ ĝkẖĝ nĝhī kahṇĝ kathan na jĝ▫ī.

Even knowing God, I cannot describe Him; He cannot be described in words.

ਗ੝ਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬ੝ਝਾਈ ॥

Gurĝ ik ḝehi bujẖĝ▫ī.

The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕ੝ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੫॥

Sabẖnĝ jī▫ĝ kĝ ik ḝĝṯĝ so mai visar na jĝ▫ī. ((5))

there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ((5))

ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸ੝ ਭਾਵਾ ਵਿਣ੝ ਭਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਨਾਇ ਕਰੀ ॥

Ŧirath nĝvĝ je ṯis bẖĝvĝ viṇ bẖĝṇe kė nĝ▫e karī.

If I am pleasing to Him, then that is my pilgrimage and cleansing bath. Without pleasing Him, what good are ritual cleansings?

ਜੇਤੀ ਸਿਰਠਿ ਉਪਾਈ ਵੇਖਾ ਵਿਣ੝ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਲਈ ॥

Jeṯī siraṯẖ upĝ▫ī vekẖĝ viṇ karmĝ kė milai la▫ī.

I gaze upon all the created beings: without the karma of good actions, what are they given to receive?

ਮਤਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਜਵਾਹਰ ਮਾਣਿਕ ਜੇ ਇਕ ਗ੝ਰ ਕੀ ਸਿਖ ਸ੝ਣੀ ॥

Maṯ vicẖ raṯan javĝhar mĝṇik je ik gur kī sikẖ suṇī.

Within the mind are gems, jewels and rubies, if you listen to the Guru's Teachings, even once.

ਗ੝ਰਾ ਇਕ ਦੇਹਿ ਬ੝ਝਾਈ ॥

Gurĝ ik ḝehi bujẖĝ▫ī.

The Guru has given me this one understanding:

ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਇਕ੝ ਦਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੬॥

Sabẖnĝ jī▫ĝ kĝ ik ḝĝṯĝ so mai visar na jĝ▫ī. ((6))

there is only the One, the Giver of all souls. May I never forget Him! ((6))

ਜੇ ਜ੝ਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਆਰਜਾ ਹੋਰ ਦਸੂਣੀ ਹੋਇ ॥

Je jug cẖĝre ĝrjĝ hor ḝasūṇī ho▫e.

Even if you could live throughout the four ages, or even ten times more,

ਨਵਾ ਖੰਡਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਣੀਝ ਨਾਲਿ ਚਲੈ ਸਭ੝ ਕੋਇ ॥

Navĝ kẖanda vicẖ jĝṇī▫ai nĝl cẖalai sabẖ ko▫e.

and even if you were known throughout the nine continents and followed by all,

ਚੰਗਾ ਨਾਉ ਰਖਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਸ੝ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਜਗਿ ਲੇਇ ॥

Cẖanga nĝ▫o rakẖĝ▫e kai jas kīraṯ jag le▫e.

with a good name and reputation, with praise and fame throughout the world-

ਜੇ ਤਿਸ੝ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਤ ਵਾਤ ਨ ਪ੝ਛੈ ਕੇ ॥

Je ṯis naḝar na ĝvī ṯa vĝṯ na pucẖẖai ke.

still, if the Lord does not bless you with His Glance of Grace, then who cares? What is the use?

ਕੀਟਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕੀਟ੝ ਕਰਿ ਦੋਸੀ ਦੋਸ੝ ਧਰੇ ॥

Kītĝ anḝar kīt kar ḝosī ḝos ḝẖare.

Among worms, you would be considered a lowly worm, and even contemptible sinners would hold you in contempt.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਗ੝ਣਿ ਗ੝ਣ੝ ਕਰੇ ਗ੝ਣਵੰਤਿਆ ਗ੝ਣ੝ ਦੇ ॥

Nĝnak nirguṇ guṇ kare guṇvanṯi▫ĝ guṇ ḝe.

O Nanak, God blesses the unworthy with virtue, and bestows virtue on the virtuous.

ਤੇਹਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਸ੝ਝਈ ਜਿ ਤਿਸ੝ ਗ੝ਣ੝ ਕੋਇ ਕਰੇ ॥੭॥

Ŧehĝ ko▫e na sujẖ▫ī jė ṯis guṇ ko▫e kare. ((7))

No one can even imagine anyone who can bestow virtue upon Him. ((7))

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਸ੝ਰਿ ਨਾਥ ॥

Suṇi▫ai siḝẖ pīr sur nĝth.

Listening-the Siddhas, the spiritual teachers, the heroic warriors, the yogic masters.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਧਰਤਿ ਧਵਲ ਆਕਾਸ ॥

Suṇi▫ai ḝẖaraṯ ḝẖaval ĝkĝs.

Listening-the earth, its support and the Akaashic ethers.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਦੀਪ ਲੋਅ ਪਾਤਾਲ ॥

Suṇi▫ai ḝīp lo▫a pĝṯĝl.

Listening-the oceans, the lands of the world and the nether regions of the underworld.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਪੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕਾਲ੝ ॥

Suṇi▫ai pohi na sakai kĝl.

Listening-Death cannot even touch you.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸ੝ ॥

Nĝnak bẖagṯĝ saḝĝ vigĝs.

O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਦੂਖ ਪਾਪ ਕਾ ਨਾਸ੝ ॥੮॥

Suṇi▫ai ḝūkẖ pĝp kĝ nĝs. ((8))

Listening-pain and sin are erased. ((8))

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਈਸਰ੝ ਬਰਮਾ ਇੰਦ੝ ॥

Suṇi▫ai īsar barmĝ inḝ.

Listening-Shiva, Brahma and Indra.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਮ੝ਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹਣ ਮੰਦ੝ ॥

Suṇi▫ai mukẖ sĝlĝhaṇ manḝ.

Listening-even foul-mouthed people praise Him.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਜੋਗ ਜ੝ਗਤਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੇਦ ॥

Suṇi▫ai jog jugaṯ ṯan bẖeḝ.

Listening-the technology of Yoga and the secrets of the body.

ਸ੝ਣਿਝ ਸਾਸਤ ਸਿਮ੝ਰਿਤਿ ਵੇਦ ॥

Suṇi▫ai sĝsaṯ simriṯ veḝ.

Listening-the Shaastras, the Simritees and the Vedas.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਿਗਾਸ੝ ॥

Nĝnak bẖagṯĝ saḝĝ vigĝs.

O Nanak, the devotees are forever in bliss.
