| ਹਾਟ ਪਟਣ ਘਰ ਗਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਚ ਵਾਪਾਰੋ ॥ ਖੰਡਿਤ ਨਿਦਰਾ ਅਲਪ ਅਹਾਰੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਤ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥੮॥ |
| Hĝt pataṇ gẖar gurū ḝikẖĝ▫i▫ĝ sėhje sacẖ vĝpĝro. Kẖandiṯ niḝrĝ alap ahĝraʼn Nĝnak ṯaṯ bīcẖĝro. ((8)) |
| The Guru has revealed the stores and the city within the home of my own heart, where I intuitively carry on the true trade. Sleep little, and eat little; O Nanak, this is the essence of wisdom". ((8)) |
| ਰੈਣਿ ਗਵਾਈ ਸੋਇ ਕੈ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਖਾਇ ॥ ਹੀਰੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਜਨਮ ਹੈ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੇ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ |
| Raiṇ gavĝ▫ī so▫e kai ḝivas gavĝ▫i▫ĝ kẖĝ▫e. Hīre jaisĝ janam hai ka▫udī baḝle jĝ▫e. ((1)) |
| The nights are wasted sleeping, and the days are wasted eating. Human life is such a precious jewel, but it is being lost in exchange for a mere shell. ((1)) |
