Akhnoor

Akhnoor town is situated at 28 km southwest of Jammu in the foothills of the pir panjal range on the right bank of the River Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir state of India.

By the time the the Chenab reaches Jammu City it has traveled in a serpentine manner for hundereds of kilometers through Himachal Pradesh and the Pir Panjal range .

Below J&K, a beautiful view of the valley can be had at a vantage point on the eastern bank of the Chenab. From here a panoramic vista including Akhnoor town, an old Rajput Fort, the Jia Pota Temple and a Gurdwara gives one a breath taking sight. Going down the river from this point there is an old fort high on a hill overlooking the river. The Fort was started in 1762 at the behest of the Rajput Raja Tegh Singh. His son Alam Singh completed the fort in 1802. On the eastern side of the fort there are steps leading down to the river. The steps, probably more than 200 years old, are still usable with most of them being in good condition.

Jia Pota Temple is situated near the fort is the next spot in our panoramic vista. Near here a sikh saint—Sant Sunder Singh ji Alibegh bale of Mirpur (POK) meditated near the bank of the Chenab. In his memory the beautiful Gurdwara, we could see only in the distance, was constructed, along the bank of the Chenab by the Sikh Sangat of Jammu. This Gurdwara is called_____________??.
