Akhnoor town is situated at 28 km southwest of Jammu in the foothills of pir panjal range on the right bank of river in Jammu And Kashmir state of India. The river Chenab after travelling in serpentine manner for hundereds of kilometers in Himachal Pradesh and pir panjal range of J&K. Before Akhnoor Town there is a fort located overlooking the river.The Fort was started in 1762 AD at the behest of Rajput Raja Tegh Singh. His son Alam Singh completed the fort in 1802. On the eastern side there are steps leading down to the river chenab.Though constructed in 18th century most of the steps are in good state. Jia Pota Temple is situated near this place.

A sikh saint Sant Sunder Singh ji Alibegh bale of Mirpur (POK) meditated near the bank of Chenab.Now in his memory a beautiful Gurdwara has been constructed at the bank of Chenab by Sikh Sangat of Jammu. The most beautiful view of the town can be had from the eastern bank of Chenab from where the Akhnoor town, Fort , Jia Pota Temple and Gurdwara are visible posing a fantastic look.
