Adding to Articles

Please feel free to add new material or clarifications to any article that is non-controversial. You only need to discuss items if they are of a controversial nature. Many thanks, --Hari Singh 09:26, 14 August 2006 (CDT)

Making Changes to an Article:

Please do not change the layout on any article without first discussing it on the talk page of the article, unless you initially created that page. Once the discussion has taken place, the decision will be made as to change or not change the layout or content of that page. Some users have spent many months working on this project and it is unfair for a newcomer to join and start making dramatic changes to these articles. Please respect and give thought to the other contributors, who may have spent a lot of time on this project. Now regarding the SGGS on Meat:

Controversial Topic

As this is a "Controversial Topic", strict rules apply as to what can be put on pages dealing with this topic and the changes that can be made. The creation of new pages is not allowed until the existing pages have grown to a reasonable size. Please discuss matters on the "Controlled Page" of the topic.

Controlled Page

The SGGS on Meat is purely a page for Gurbani and other recognised texts – ie Bhai Gurdas' Varan, etc. This is a "Controlled Page" and strictly no other text is allowed apart from a "controlled introduction" which cannot be changed. So please only add recognised Gurbani text and verified translations. No other text will be allowed without first discussing the matter.

Supporting Pages

As an off-shoot of the "Controlled Page", we have the Vegetarianism and Vegetarianism Other Views pages. These are called the "Supporting Pages". These are the pages where the differing opinions have to be stated. Most users will only be able to change these pages provided the changes are first discussed. Each of these pages should just deal with the views, opinions and research to do with the opinion being supported. ie: Normally this would be the title of the page. References and historic records must be given wherever an opinion is stated or needed. If these references are not given, after warnings, these views will be removed. Links to other websites may not be sufficient as anyone can now set up a website and state their personally views/historic record. We require support from Gurbani, Bhai Gurdas Varan, recorded historical material or historical books with the necessary research to establish the authenticity of the material.

I would ask you to co-operate with this policy so that we can provide a credible view of Sikhism to the public. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to put them on my user page.

Many thanks in anticipation. --Hari Singh 07:26, 12 August 2006 (CDT)

SGGS on Meat - Shabad not acceptable as quoted incorrectly

You have manipulated the translation of the Shabad from Bhai Gurdas ji, who say referring to the goat, "Among the householder only ITS MEAT IS SACRED" (word used is "paveter") - see page 54 Vol 2 of the Varan Bhai Gurdas. Please do not try any tricks like this as they only demean the reputation of our religion. Only approved and confirmed translations should be used without any tampering – You will remember the punishment that Ram Rai was given for twisting the Guru's message – This is only slightly less than that. Please be open in your views and discuss your ideas before taking any drastic action.

Before you add anything more, please first try and deal with the volume of information on this page against this practice and explain this at Vegetarianism Other Views. I think it is fair to say that most relevant Shabads in this respect have been found and are on this page. Fishing around for more will not get any results. Many thanks. --Hari Singh 08:04, 24 September 2006 (CDT)

Not Acceptable Or You Don't Agree?

No tricks, but obviously does not agree with your thoughts so it must be wrong. As for what happened to Ram Rai I think you would do well learning that lesson first, before trying to teach it to me --Incredible 09:50, 24 September 2006 (CDT)

HUMILITY IS THE QUINTESSENCE OF ALL VIRTUES, SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE & HONORS

From page 54 Varan Bhai Gurdas Var 23 - Pauri 13 -Dr Jodh Singh

hasath akhaaj gumaan kar seehu sathaanaa koe n khaaee|| hoe nimaanee bakaree dheen dhunee vaddiaaee paaee|| maranai paranai manneeai jag bhog paravaan karaaee|| maas pavithraur grihasath no aaandhahu thaar veechaar vajaaee|| chamarrae dheeaaan kar jutheeaa saadhhoo charan saran liv laaee|| thoor pakhaavaj marreedhae keerathan saadhhasangath sukhadhaaee|| saadhhasangath sathigur saranaaee ||aa||

The proud elephant is inedible and none eats the mighty lion. Goat is humble and hence it is respected everywhere. On occaisions of death, joy, marriage, yajna, etc only its meat is accepted. Among the householders its meat is acknowledged as sacred and with its gut stringed instruments are made. From its leather shoes are made to be used by the saints merged in their meditation upon the Lord. Drums are mounted by its skin and then in the holy congregation the delight-giving kirtan, eulogy of the Lord is sung. In fact, going to the holy congregation is the same as going to the shelter of the true Guru.

It should be included in the SGGS Meat thread if you are truly unbiased as you claim?
