Guru Nanak was not a Muslim he was a universal saint. The persons who made him guru and learned way of life from him are called Gursikhs or Sikhs. The gurmat is preaching of guru and followed by sikhs of guru. Gursikhs are from any caste, religion, sect etc. Gursikh means sikhs of guru, it was his sikhs (a Punjabi word that means devotees) who adopted him as their guru.

Social classes, races, Muslims and Hindus;

beasts, birds and the many varieties of beings and creatures;

the entire world and the visible universe -

all forms of existence shall pass away. ||5||

The above is message for all and of all, so how can you categorize guru nanak sahib. When qazid asked guru to tell who is great hindu or muslim he replied that without good deeds both would get agony. so the bani of guru sahib is itself for whole humanity for universal brotherhood.

There are many misconceptions regarding Guru Nanak and i am trying to give resolution to each and every one of them:

Guru Nanak was a kid when he uttered his first rhyme called Patti Likhi then Rhyme for doctor and so on. He travelled across india, sri lanka, bangladesh, sikkim, tibet, etc., during his journeys where he recited many couplets which have been included in the guru granth sahib. Once he went with his Muslim companion Mardana during the Haj where he visited Mecca. Returning he had many stops in Afghanistan and also visited many places in punjab and recited many couplets. If guru sahib had to learn from muslim countries then he must not have had the spiritual level of stanzas which he recited before visiting them. Guru Nanak cremated Mardana as his last wish which is one more clue that he was not muslim but mardana turned sikh of guru.

Guru Nanak and Mecca

Some ignorants say that guru nanak did hajj and he entered in mecca which was not possible for non muslim, let's share facts from various historical accounts:

  1. Guru sahib attired as a haji and was going in group of hajis toward mecca and It is mentioned that some hajis left him when they found out that he was not a muslim.
  2. He went to mecca as requested by his companion mardana (muslim belief hai ik var hjajj karna so for his belief poorti) to share his teachings with the muslim community. Guru ji's visit to benaras did not make him into a hindu.visit to bodh gaya did not make him a buddhist, his visits to Jain temples of rajasthan did not make him jaini, he visited many other head shrines. so eh gall kiddan man laiye ke ithe visit karna wrong hai.
  3. He went and lie down and feet toward mecca and this supported by janamsakhis and bhai gurdas too a famous sikh and if you are a muslim, jina marzi great hove, i think you guys would not do that.
  4. His feet was ghumaya and the mecca was revolved which is itself bejiti of mecca. but some of our historians say (to keep piousness of muslim's mecca) it was the mind of that person which was resolved
  5. He went to mecca and had discourse with many muslim hajis, their islami questions and their universal answers read hajarnama.
  6. Many qazi and hazi met him and after loosing their debates with him oh vapis chale jande c.
  7. after mecca he went to medina where he again had discourse, he met karun and same ekta da updesh
  8. it was guru nanak who said mecca is idol worshipping. and this is true if we read about hajj then umrah is idol worship, muzdalifah is also idol stoning. so muslims are also idolators.
  9. it is mentioned in historical accounts that many non muslims visited mecca during that period of guru nanak dev ji
  10. In Janamsakhi it's clearly mentioned tat all hajis, qazis and peer were talking him calling hindu many places like "Akhe peer jalal deen , Sun nanak hindu faqir"".
  11. Guru Nanak Commented in same janamsakhis which muslim authors are referencing and same janamsakhi said at many places both hindu and muslims are guymrah and should come to naam simran and leave maya.

Marriage of Guru Nanak

Place where marriage was performed

He was married with Mata Sulakhani, a girl who was born in the village Pakhoke, district Gurdaspur to Moolchand Chand Khatri (a Hindu) and Mata Chando, the present shrine Gurdwara Dehra Sahib marks the place of their marriage. Often muslims have suggested Guru Nanak married a Muslim, but even in the area where Guru Nanak grew up, worked and married, today's Pakistan, a Muslim father, then as now, would never allow his daughter to marry a non-muslim. Even marriages done without the father of the bride's permission, often ends in (karo-kari) a so called 'honor killing' where a father or brother kills his daughter or sister and her husband to avenge the family's so called 'honor'.

Even in Canada, the USA and the EU such murders have become a growing problem in the Muslim population.

I can only suggest that those who write such things read about him and his life before making such baseless claims.
