In the Guru Granth Sahib various numerical digits appear which represent the succession of Gurus. For example on page 14 is the line: ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ The digit ੧ or 1 here represents the first Guru, Guru Nanak and is pronounced "Phahla" meaning "first".
