Vidhata Singh Teer was born to Sardar Hira Singh Punj ( Punjabi: ਸਰਦਾਰ ਹੀਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਜ ) in village Ghaghrot in district Rawalpindi. Vidhata Singh Teer took initial education from his maternal uncle Giani Hira Singh Dard. He also learned poetry from his maternal uncle as well.
