Wahe Guruji Ka Khalsa Wahyguruji Ki Fateh !

Thank you for your kind words

Dear Amita Singh ji

Thank you for kind words and good wishes. I am sure the organiser will respond to you directly in this connection.

As you may be aware, SikhiWiki is made up of contributions and input from all the Global Sikh community. Many individuals have made contributions to this project and with Guru's kirpa (blessing) we have the beginning of a database which we hope will be an inspiration to all Sikhs worldwide.

We need more individuals to contribute and I would like you and your friends to become part of this global effort by also making contributions to this database. It does not matter if you make mistakes as these will be corrected by other in this global community.

I would like all Sikhs to play there part in making this a global record of the wonderful message so lovingly spread by our Gurus. As Sikhs I believe it is our duty to make sure that the message of our exemplary Gurus is known to all individuals of the World. Whether, they listen to this message or ignore it is not something that we need to worry about.

Please encourage all your friend to first read the various articles at SikhiWiki and then to make whatever contribution that they are able to make.

Sikh Missionary Colege Replied

From: "TEJINDER SINGH"<[email protected]> Block Dear Amita Singh Ji,

waheguru ji ka khalsa, waheguru ji ki fateh.

Thanks for asking the most important interprettion in Sikh theology.

To educate the present day youth, anything is welcome, but let it be ensured that it does not compromise with the essence of Godly virtues as enunciated by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Mool Mantra since these are the basic preceptions about GOD which form the very pillars of spirituality in Sikhism which is further elaborated through various hymns in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. I would advise u to please go through the translation of Japuji Sahib by the Sikh Missionary College which is based on the interpretation given by Dr. Sahib Singh Ji, the great Sikh Gurbani theologist and philisopher who had translated the entire bani of Guru Granth Sahib in the easiest possible manner. When u have thoroughly understood the basic features of Gurbani, then it may be easy to explain in whatever language or style u may like to the youth. If need be, we can further discuss the modalities.

With regards,

Congratulations !

Dearest Amita Singh Ji, Many thanks for your kind words which I don't think I deserve as I am sure that all achievement is due to Guru's Blessing and Kirpa. However, I do appreciate your most sincere and heart-warming words. Thank you, again. --Hari 04:33, 15 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Amita Singh ji / User:Rsba,

Thanks for your kind words! I've been away from the site for sometime now, over a month or so, but it's good to see the many contributions and development of the site. Thanks for your kind words with respect to the Mool Mantar article, please don't see it as 'my work' but a basic starting point to be improved upon. Your additions are most welcome, I would suggest that we merge everything together into a seamless article, but all in good time. WJKF --Navroop Singh 05:40, 24 Aug 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Gurudwara Bhai Bahilon Sahib

Hi Amita Singh, WKWF

I saw that you were setting up the above Gurdwara on SikhiWiki. I have put a single line entry in Gurdwaras in India with a hyperlink (ie. putting two square brackets around the name of the Gurdwara) to a new page called Gurudwara Bhai Bahilon Sahib. I hope this helps.

Kind Regards and keep up the Good Work. If you need any help please email me or post on by discussion page. Guru Rakha! -- Hari Singh 20:47, 5 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

We are all on a learning curve!

Amita Singh Ji, WKWF

I know you are doing a good job and we all have at some stage got to learn to master various software packages. Please, there is no need to apologise - You have not "spoiled the setting up". The SikhiWiki Software is very forgiving and we can move to a previous format of a page by just pressing a single link.

Please continue to make your efforts and soon you will be a master. If you need to email me, go to my user page and click on the "Email Hari Singh" link.

To add a message to my discussion page, Go to my User page then select the discussion tab at the top. Then press the + sign besides the edit tab at the top. This will give you a "Editing User talk:Hari singh (comment)" screen. Enter a "Subject/headline" and your message in the main part of the screen. To sign off press the second tab from the right with a small signature picture (This is just above the words "Subject/headline") This will put your name & time stamp. Then press "Show preview" at the bottom to review the screen and then press "Save Page" to finish off & Save.

Try it - I hope it helps.

Thanking you. -- Hari Singh 08:19, 6 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Sikhism Graphical Model

W K W F, Thank you Amita Singh Ji for your support and kind words. I will study the Bani of Guru Ram Das on Ang 305 and will try with Guru's kirpa to include these in the next model. Also. please if you could give me references to Bhai Gurdas Ji's Vars, it would be very helpful as I have not had the oppurtunity to study Bhai Sahib Vars in any detail. Many thanks and may Guru's blessing be with you always. -- Hari Singh 13:52, 12 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

MS Access

Dear Amita Singh Ji, WKWF

I am not very familiar with MS Access but possible the best way forward would be if you could send me a small output from the MS Access software as a text file, I will see if we can use a Wiki template to display this in an interesting form. If the formatting produced by MS Access is pretty rigid, then we should be able to use the Template function. Please send me a small sample report.

My email is: [email protected]

VAARAAN BHAI GURDAAS

Respected Amita Singh Ji,

Many thanks for your reference to the Web site and quotations. Unfortunately, due to work commitment and upgrading of my computer, I have not yet looked in detail at the site although I have visited it. Over the next few days & especially over the weekend, I will have a better look. I am most grateful for your continuous help and pray that in this way we can highlight the words of our Gurus to all the Sangat.

Many thanks and I will come back to you on this in due course by way of a message or email.

MS Access file

Respected Amita Singh Ji

Many thanks for the MS format file. From the layout, it appears to be in 3 columns. I think this will make it very difficult to use in Sikhiwiki. Is it possible to produce the same file in ASCII or other formats so that it appears as three different "lines" one after the other? Please let me known.

Also, is it possible to get the Gurbani CD so that I can see the various layout of the reports so as to see which could best be converted using Sikhiwiki Template. Kind regards, -- Hari Singh 04:43, 18 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

ACCESS DATABASE SACH.mdb through HTML

Respected Bhai Sahib Amita Singh Ji, WKWF

The last posting on my discussion page seems OK with some manual cleaning to remove the "formatting" codes before & after the table.

Gurbani posting

I would recommended that we do not post Gurmukhi text on SikhiWiki for various reasons. As reader can easily access that from elsewhere if they need to ie: Srigranth, Sikhitothemax, searchgurbani.com, etc only the correct page number needs to be posted.

I would recommend posting english translations only with page reference.

Your first output from Gurbani did not produce any ASCII text. The second output produced reasonable text but heavy duty formatting.

Is there no way to produce word document format text or just plain text from the MS-ACCESS db. If not, then may be you can use [1] which I have found very useful or use material from the Gurbani CD to access Gurbani from the net.

Once you get a shabad in text format, we have a number to templates to display them in SikhiWiki. The simplest one is called Quoter. to use this see the page Death. If this will help, please let me know.

  • also see Article 3HO below

Typos

We will work on the typos in due time as there is no easy way. You can copy the article to your WP & ask it to correct the spelling and then re paste to Sikhiwiki - But don't let the WP re-format the text. This does work well. I could this for you - so don't worry about it yet.

Experiment with a New Page

If you wish to work on a experimental page to try out some ideas, I suggest we start a new page called "Amita Experiment 1" and we can develop some ideas there. And once we have a reasonable result, we can move that to its proper name.

Article 3HO

Below is an example - I seached for the words "The breath is drawn" at Srigranth then chose page 1106; Copy & paste the Shabad to Sikhiwiki; then added the template format which has two parameters, the lines of the shabad and the reference. (Had to edit out the gurmukhi full stops)

The breath is drawn in through the left nostril;

it is held in the central channel of the Sushmanaa, and exhaled through the right nostril,

repeating the Lord`s Name sixteen times.

I am powerless; my power has been broken. My unstable mind has been stabliized,

and my unadorned soul has been adorned. I drink in the Ambrosial Nectar. ((1))

Within my mind, I chant the Name of the Primal Lord God, the Source of virtue.

My vision, that You are I are separate, has melted away. ((1)(Pause))

I worship the One who is worthy of being worshipped.

I trust the One who is worthy of being trusted.

Like water merging in water, I merge in the Lord.

Says Jai Dayv, I meditate and contemplate the Luminous, Triumphant Lord.

I am lovingly absorbed in the Nirvaanaa of God. ((2)(1))

sggs 1106

I would have put it like this as it is easier to read and shorter!

Please come back to me with your views. Thanks, Kind regards, -- Hari Singh 11:21, 24 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Good to know you feel you are making progress

Amita Singh Ji, WKWF

I happy to gather that you feel you are making progress. I spent most of yesterday hyperlinking words from the Sikhism article to the rest of Sikhiwiki terms and terms in Wikipedia. I think that makes for a good article as readers can "follow" the hyperlink to read the meaning of any word that puzzles them.

I will catch up with you soon. Keep "digging". Gurfateh! -- Hari Singh 17:01, 29 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Gurmukhi Article

Respected Amita Singh Ji, WKWF

I have had a quick glance at the above article and I think it looks much better combined.

Many thanks for the great work on this article.

I have done a little bit to "hyper-linking". Please see if you can do a bit more whenever you get time.

I think it makes it easier for newcomers to be able to click on "new" terms and instantly find out their meaning.

Kind regard, --Hari Singh 19:25, 26 October 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Vegetarianism

I have added a little more to the good work that you have recently done on this article. I hope this did not get in your way.

Thanks for the hyper-linking. I will add some of the new terms that have been highlighted to the database.

--Hari Singh 21:06, 27 October 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Respected Amita Singh

I find your word very touching but Gurbani tells us that it is through "His Will" that we get associations and separations. So I think it is all Waheguru's doing and I only hope that we both gain from this association.

I pray to the Guru that we get more like minded "Sikhs" who can carry this project forward - Maharaja says that it is the duty of the Sikh to "carry forward the Guru's message" - I hope together all the contributors to Sikhiwiki can stay true to this global truth.

I thank you for your kind words - May the Guru's blessing always be with you for the kindness and respect that you have shown me and others. Also, I have looked at the posting from Sikhtimes in respect of the Vegetarianism article and although there are some good ideas supported by Gurbani, which I will add to the article, some of it is not supported by Bani and will have to be left out.

I think on a topic of this nature, where it does influence people's very dear feeling, its important that we approach this with sensitivity and do justice to all by supporting our views directly with Gurbani.

It may be that we will need to split the article into several articles as the system flashes a warning to say we have gone over the 32k byte limit.

The article is a candidate for the next Featured Article, so I will try and do a little more work integrating your additions into the main article over the weekend. Many thanks for bring my attention to some differing views on this topic, which need to be properly covered.

--Hari Singh 16:24, 28 October 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Darpan, and other things

Amita ji, Thanks for your kind message. With Waheguru's kirpa, things are keeping well.

DARPAN

I agree with you that probably the Darpan is a more meaningful and true explanation of Gurbani than any other material, but I think it is not available in English yet, and that makes it very difficult to use on the net. Most of the audience on the net is main English speaking so we will have to wait for these English volumes to be put on the internet. I hope they do it very soon. Please let me know if you find anything.

My speed of Punjabi reading is not very fast compared to English and so I first read in English and revert to Punjabi if I do not agree with the English version of the translation. In some case you do not need the Punjabi version as the Gurmukhi is very clear. That is the best way to connect with Bani.

More Contributors

This is really good news and I look forward for your friend's input. I agree that it is our duty as Sikhs to put forward this wonderful message of Gurbani to as many people as possible.

SikhiWiki Editor

The in-built editor is not very clever - but you can preview things instantly and it is fast. However, for longer articles, I use Word and save the documents locally. Then I copy & paste the text to Sikhiwiki.

This way I get spell check, quick find & replace synonyms (Thesaurus), shortcuts, grammar checking, etc. Also I get a local copy for security.

You will have to turn off smart "quotation" facility on Word or any other wp package.

The Work so far

Unfortunately, we don't have too many contributors. That is a real shame. However, I think that we do get 1000's of viewing of the various pages each week. If you go to Special Pages then Popular pages, you will see these numbers going up each week. And I am told by experts that the actual numbers is much higher because of "cacheing"

I think you will not be banned by the Sysop yet! haha! I must say your layout is improving and presentation is very important. I have used your ideas in various articles and I am thankful to you.

Your help with "hyper-linking" has also been an advantage. Some of the ideas that you put forward are a little advanced for most people but they have given me inspiration and that is always very welcomed.

I have read most of your contributions to the various talk pages and I think that facility is highly under-utilized. We are all student of the Guru and I don't deserve any "maan". May the Guru continue to assist us all in this mission?

How about coming to the UK soon? Thank you again and please keep in touch.

Mool Mantra and Compendium of True Ideas

Respected Amita Ji,

I am no expert in this area but as you have asked my opinion, I feel I must make a concerted effort to be of assistance.

I believe, it is a good idea to keep article outlining fundamental and basic ideas to a few screens – otherwise the principles are lost in the huge amount of text!. As both these articles are fairly involved, I think you need to start a new article called: Mool Mantar and its Perception (or something like this) and then transfer some of your relevant text (but not all of your text) from Mool Mantar to this new article.

You should also have a link from each of your articles to the other so that the user can follow the logic.

I hope this has helped!
