Interesting to see the line - …or some other equally strong influence like the intervention of the Chisti Sufi saints , in this story (on the main page today), right after reading of the bombing and deaths at the Data Ganj Bakhsh shrine, which lead me to read that it has a been a practice of Sufi saints coming to the South Asia to first pay a visit to the shrine of Hazrat Usman Ali Hujwiri (Data Ganj Bakhsh).

Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chishti, who introduced and established the order in South Asia, first came to Lahore to pay his respects at Data Ganj-Bakhsh upon his arriving in the subcontinent where he spent quite some time in meditation and prayer before reaching enlightenment. (wikipedia)

Was it Chishti who Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri in honor of? Chishti who Salim was named after, Salim who grew up to become Jahangir. Akbar who is said to have given the Jagir to the Guru's daughter that became Amritsar and his son Jahangir who had Guru Arjan Dev arrested.

before this I had never heard of Data Ganj Bakhsh.

will delete tomorrow.
