Shyam is another name for God. It was attributed to Lord Krishna of yasoda as one of his names. Shyam Sundar.

The name Shyam as a poet appears in the Sri Dasam Granth 113 as a poet it is believed that this is Guru Gobind Singh using a nickname of his own as both Gobind and Shyam were names for Lord Krishan and both mean God. An example of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib having shyam appear is;
