This is deemed to better describe the actual reality which is outlined in the holy scriptures of the East for the end of physical body; they believe that it is a better description than "dead" or "death" as the soul is not considered to die when the body dies.
The soul is considered to be the enduring entity; the connection between the "person/s" we have known in this world and the longer lasting "atma" or "light of that person" (soul).
