"left for her/his heavenly abode" is terminology used in Eastern cultures to better describe the journey of the soul into the next world when the body perishes. This is deemed to better describe the actual reality which is outlined in the holy scriptures of the East; they believe that it is a better description then "dead" or "death" as the soul is not considered to die when the body dies.

The soul is considered to be the enduring entity and the connection between the "person" as we recognise in this world and the loner lasting "atma" or "light of that person" (soul).
