Grihasti (ਗਿਰਸਤੀ ) is a Punjab word which means a "family oriented life " or "life of a householder". "Grista" means to live in a family environment where the normality of husband, wife and children is respected and catered for.
Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh faith was a strong proponent of life of a householders. He believed the family environment was central to attaining a successful spiritual life.
Nĝm raṯe saḝĝ bairĝgī. Garihī anṯar sĝcẖ liv lĝgī. Nĝnak saṯgur sevėh se vadbẖĝgī. ((8)(3)) |
Those who are attuned to the Naam, remain detached forever. Even as householders, they lovingly attune themselves to the True Lord. |
