Gopal Tero Aarta is a Spiritual poetry of Devotee Dhanna present in Guru Granth Sahib. This Shabad is pretty example of humbleness and Satisfaction.

A Kid always tell his wishes to his father, but when kid becomes mad and over demanding everything, father always ignore him or slap him. Devotees are sons of God. They call God their Father/Mother. Their wishes are related to spirituality. When they ask worldly requirement they never show greed but demand in limit, not extending(Greed) and demanding those things which are actually required to balance themselves with nature.

Etymology

  • Gopal: means God i.e Go + Pal (Earth + Nourish), who is sustainer of word.
  • Tero: is pronoun used with
  • Aarta : it means demander/beggar/wisher

Which means i am beggar of your's.

This line have synonym with some other lines of Guru Granth Sahib like

Veechar

Devotee Dhanna set an example, how to demand. Some people generally questions that one should not demand worldly things from god and gurmukh will never do so, so they criticize Dhanna's Bani. but this bani is actually stopping sikhs from unnecessary demands.

This Bani is telling in very beginning that,ਜੋ ਜਨ ਤ੝ਮਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੰਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਤਾ ॥ , one who worship on god only their worldly affairs are looked after by god. Such people are very Humble and they ask for only those things which are actually required to live fruitful life.
