Conquest of Sadhora: Difference between revisions

This article is about the Conquest of Sadhora by Banda Singh Bahadur and role of labana community in it. Hindues had been humilated by Mohamadan ruler nearly all the afghan and Mughal rulers of india had adopted such a policy where hindu were oblized for conversion of islam in great numbers. Harson writes in his book,"Some passages in life of an adventuree in Punjab at page 107 that a muslim gave following expression:

Those were the days when chivalous babar ride through the land, he was not of our race, but he was true badshah, then there were Shah jahan and Aurangjeb, patterns of monarchs, they permitted no idolatorous dogs to pollute this land. An mohamad; my country men the gallent and brave child of the brides of the cities 'Gazni' the impregnable, the maiden fortress. You have doubtless heard by muhamad my lord? How he routed the idolators , the unbelievers of the land. He planted the crescent throughout the bounds of five rivers." Such the views were nearly all fanatic muslims of Baba Banda Singh's time.

Reason of Conquest

Sadhora was the nice place and sadhus live over there. Actual sadhora mingling two words Sadhu and Dora. Pir Budhu Shah also lived there and meditated praying to god LA - I - LA - ILLA i.e one god created of all. From here he went to Battle of Bhangani to fight against tyrant and fanatic forces who attacked Guru Gobind Singh at this place. It was due to fight against this fanatic forces he was prosecuted later on. Acc. to Giani Gian Singh Panth Parkash(Page 370):

Jung Bhangani mein Guru keri, Budhu Shahi Shahi baheri
Is he het sandhore waaran, turkan karyo boora at karan
Molvian to fatwaa lai kae, budhu shah hateo dukh dae kae
Jab hawaal so bandae soneo, badla lewan het mann ganiyae

It was one of the main reasons that baba banda singh found it necessory to punish nawab. The second reason Giani singh wrote that:

Hindu Logan taanhi dikhar, Maarat gauaan urad bazaar
hinduan kae ghar pashu beemar, maran laggae ko lehey maar
Kaat baad kar tis he thairon, Beti bahoo nami jo aihon
tae din jabran tahain rakhe hain

There were saintly pios muslim named Peer Buddhu Shah of Sadhora. though he was sayed by caste which is famous for fanaticism yet he regarded Guru gobind Singh in greatest esteem. In the Battle of Bhagani, He fought on the side of Guru ji against Fanatic forces and his two sons & many followers became martyers. When sri Guru Gobind singh had to vacate anandpur sahib the creul nawab of sadhora prosecuted Peer Buddhu Shah. The writer of twarikh Khasa writes that:

Nawab usman Khan of Sadhora was so creul and fanatic that he used to get 
cows slaughtered and uneatable parts of cows he used to get them thrown in 
their houses. he never allowed to burn them their dead and  forcibally matched 
hindues brides. Jazia was collected in most humilated way so that they may 
get converted to islam.

Labanas role in Conquest

At the distance of 5 Kms from Sadhora there was a labana villae Ladhora, who did not tolerate such creul treatment to hindu and so they were always at logger heads with Nawab Usman Khan. Moreover, these were Bapitized sikhs and this pinched to nawab. When Baba banda singh bahadur was in surrounding of this area 5 Labana sikhs had gone to sadhora. They saw some butchers taking cows for slaughter which they were forced to relieve. The butchers were went to nawab who sent a detachment to arrest these labanas. In the skirmish, the enused two labanas & many soldiers of nawab were killed. Seeing this sacrifice the hindues of the area also started sympathising with khalsa. When Baba Banda Singh Bahadur came to know about heroic deed of labanas he marched towards sadhora & on the way he wanted to contact labanas of village dilaur which was near to kapuri & enrout of sadhora. Dr. ganda Singh in his book Banda Singh Bahadur wrote on page 26:
"Mufatfabdon rah wich barade dee sadak utae sadhoreyon 4 meel utae Dallaur pind hai| Banda Sinmgh nae raat ithey katti tan ithey dae labanean pason lorindi wakfe prapat kar lai jaave| Din charde saar singh kapoori upar tut pae|

The labana of village dillaur showed great hospitality towards baba banda singh bahadur and his followers and gave him not only all required information but also a great number of spirited youth labana sikhs accompanied him and fought against the fanatic nawab of kapuri. After Kapuri came to turn of Sadhora.

The Fightout

After fall of Kapuri, on advice and guidance of labanas of these villages, Baba Banda Singh followers attacked Sadhora. Acc. To Giani Gian Singh (page 14): Hoon jadd bandae bahadur nae labane Sikhan de slah tae hin duan di kurlat sun kae sadhore nu jaa ghereyaa

Nawab Usman Khan collected his army and resources when he heard about Banda advance. In battle, Bhai Nihanga Singh also joined Banda Singh along with labana fallowers. Bhai Nihanga Singh was reputed son of Bhai Lakhi Shah who helped his father Guru Tegh Bahadur revered body from Chandani chownk. The hindues also joined khalsa army as they thought that the god sent oppurtunity to liberate themselves from butchers of tyrants.

In the fight that enused both sides fought bravely, but the tyrants could not stop Baba Banda Singh Bahadur forces which were ably guided under leadership of banda singh. When the fight was going on god also helped with wind, strom and rain. The creul nawab and his aides were killed.

Baba Banda Singh Bahadur appointed his own follower governer of that place. All the dead bodies of both sides were honourably cremated/burried.

After Fightout

Many of followers of Nawab of Sadhora begged pardon and promised to remain faithful to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. But on the same night they held a confidential meeting and wrote to Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind for help and sent it in a bamboo through a massenger. When the massenger was going a vanzara was grazing his camels. One of the camel went to near by feild and the vanzara snatched the pole from massenger to beat camel. While doing letter fell from pole. The information reached to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and Labana Naik. The officials who breach the trust were severaly reprimended.

The Conquest Of Sadhora had great moral rising factor for the followers of Baba Banda Singh and increased the worries of Nawab Wazir Khan of Sirhind.
