Akhnoor

Akhnoor town is situated at 28 km southwest of Jammu in the foothills of pir panjal range on the right bank of river in Jammu And Kashmir state of India. The river Chenab after travelling in serpentine manner for hundereds of kilometers in Himachal Pradesh and pir panjal range of J&K. Before Akhnoor Town there is a fort located overlooking the river.The Fort was started in 1762 AD at the behest of Rajput Raja Tegh Singh. His son Alam Singh completed the fort in 1802. On the eastern side there are steps leading down to the river chenab.Though constructed in 18th century most of the steps are in good state.
