Din Raanh is a poetry and part of raag bani. The word "Din" means "day" and "Raanh" mean "night". The Bani starts at Page 136, Line 14 and ends at Page 137, Line 12. It was composed by Guru Arjan Dev in Raga Majh.
The Bani shows longing (Tadap) for unity with God. The Guru ask us all to meditate on God's name day and night if you want to get salvation and peace. Guru jee also asks the devotee to give up 'selfishness' as this should not be a part of any Sikh's life. Guru Arjun Dev jee says that without God no peace and comfort can be found, leaving a "human to just wallow in dust".
Only my evil has kept me form you, God. Guru says that only with God's mercy can one be saved. The Lord listens to every request if it comes from ones heart and if we remember Him at all times, will achieve release from the cycle of transmigration and the "chakra" (wheel or cycle) of life and death. One becomes humble when they find the dust on the feet of Saints.
God resides in mind and body and can't be measured. Guru is a sacrifice to those who serve the Lord and Gurkirpa jae har ko kini tae har jugat pashani so the Guru urges us to read the Guru Shabad Gurbani, understand the way of the Lord and then reach God within. This is the path to reach the "Truth" - which is just another name of God
God is Forgiver, Kind, Creator, Bestower and Endless. Those who have the Lord in their mind are fortunate and their desires are fulfilled. All sorrow is erased. You can be "hara bhara" (rejuvenated) too. Chant His name and sing His praises. What God gives, you should be satisfied with that. There is no other place where you can resolve your life's problem except from God. God destroys darkness and ignorance. If you pray and offer Ardas to God, happiness will be yours and the love for God in your life will be elevated.
It is the title (dinraini) of a single 4 stanza hymn by GURU ARJAN Dev in the Majh measure (GG, 13637). The composition evidently follows the prosodic vogue of inscribing verses to kalkrama (process of time) embracing forms such as baramaha (twelve months of the year), thitf (lunardates) and var (days of the week). Otherwise, the contents of this hymn are in harmony with the tenor of the entire text, i.e. praise of, surrender to, and love of God, the Ultimate Reality. Writing in the first person and in conversational style mixed with soliloquy. Guru Arjan expresses the soul`s yearning for reunion with the Lord and, besides panegyrizing the Timeless, Merciful, True Creator, he also gives homage to those who day and night remember and serve Him.
- Dinu rainiji prabh kauri sevade tin kai ad balihar
- I am a hundred times sacrifice unto those who serve the Lord day and night
- inu rainijisu na visarai so haria hovai jantu
- He who does not forget Him during day or night remains evergreen;
sarab kaliana titu dini hari pars! gur ke pau
- The day during which one worships at he feet of God (guru) brings total liberation.
Besides using dinrain as the title of this hymn, the term frequently appears in gurbani impressing upon the devotees the need and significance of remembering the Name (nam) constantly during day and night. Other variations on the term are rainidinasu, dinrati, nisidinu, ratdinant and plain dinu ar rati. M.G.S. 1. ull
