ਲੈ ਸ੝ਰ ਸੰਗ ਸਬੈ ਸ੝ਰਪਾਲ ਸ੝ ਕੋਪ ਕੇ ਸਤ੝ਰ ਕੀ ਸੈਨ ਪੈ ਧਾਝ ॥ लै सढ़र संग सबै सढ़रपाल सढ़ कोप के सतढ़र की सैन पै धाझ ॥ Indra taking all gods with him, invaded the forces of the enemy.

ਦੈ ਮ੝ਖ ਢਾਰ ਲੀਝ ਕਰਵਾਰ ਹਕਾਰ ਪਚਾਰ ਪ੝ਰਹਾਰ ਲਗਾਝ ॥ दै मढ़ख ढार लीझ करवार हकार पचार पढ़रहार लगाझ ॥ Covering the face with shield and holding the sword in hand, they attacked with loud shouts.

ਸ੝ਰਉਨ ਮੈ ਦੈਤ ਸ੝ਰੰਗ ਭਝ ਕਵਿ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਭਾਉ ਇਹੈ ਛਬਿ ਪਾਝ ॥

The demons are dyed with blood and it seems to the poet;

duje dharam nu mande ee nahi, rabb nu mande e nahi, kudrat ki hai ohde ton kuj lainde ee nahi, agan devta(nu agg lande aan sadey na), eh sab ki hai, practically kuch v nahi hai


ਰਾਮ ਮਨੋ ਰਨ ਜੀਤ ਕੈ ਭਾਲਕ ਦੈ ਸਿਰਪਾਉ ਸਭੈ ਪਹਰਾਝ ॥੧੬॥

As if Rama after conquering the war is bestowing (the redcoloured) robes of honour to all bears.16.

ਸ੝ਵੈਯਾ ॥

ਘਾਇਲ ਘੂਮਤ ਹੈ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਇਕ ਲੋਟਤ ਹੈ ਧਰਨੀ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੇ ॥

Many wounded warriors are rolling in the battlefield and many of them are writhing and crying on the ground.

The trunks are also twirling there, seeing which the cowards are frightened.

ਇਯੋ ਮਹਿਖਾਸ੝ਰ ਜ੝ਧ੝ ਕੀਯੋ ਤਬ ਜੰਬ੝ਕ ਗਿਰਝ ਭਝ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਤੇ ॥

Mahishasura waged such a war that the jackals and vultures are highly pleased.

ਸ੝ਰੌਨ ਪ੝ਰਵਾਹ ਮੈ ਪਾਇ ਪਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਸੋਝ ਹੈਂ ਸੂਰ ਮਨੋ ਮਦ ਮਾਤੇ ॥੧੭॥

And the heroes, being intoxicated, are lying prostrate in the stream of blood.17.

Seeing the fighting in the war of the demon Mahishasura, the sun is not moving on its orbit.


ਸ੝ਰੌਨ ਸਮੂਹ ਚਲਿਓ ਲਖਿ ਕੈ ਚਤ੝ਰਾਨਨ ਭੂਲਿ ਗਝ ਸਭ ਗ੝ਰੰਥਾ ॥

Brahma has also forgotten his texts on beholding the stream of blood.

Seeing the flesh, the vultures are seated in such a way, as if the children are learning their lessons in school.

The jackals are pulling the corpses in the field in such a way as if the Yogis, sitting on the banks of Sarswati are mending their patched quilts.18.

ਅਗਨਤ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਨੈ ਕੋ ਭਜੈ ਜ੝ ਸ੝ਰ ਕਰਿ ਤ੝ਰਾਸ ॥

Innumerable gods were killed and innumerable ran away in fear.

anginat maar dittey, baaki bhaj gaye trahi trahi kar ke

ਧਾਰਿ ਧਿਆਨ ਮਨ ਸਿਵਾ ਕੋ ਤਕੀ ਪ੝ਰੀ ਕੈਲਾਸ ॥੧੯॥

All (the remaining) gods, meditating on Shiva, went towards Kailash mountain.19.

After several days goddess came to take a bath there.

kine e din othey parchar karan karde nikle,

shivrat de meley te navan gaye c, naam daan gaye c doojeyan nu....guru navan nahi gaye navan gaye ne

ਬਿਧਿ ਪੂਰਬ ਸਭ ਦੇਵਤਨ ਕਰੀ ਦੇਵਿ ਕੀ ਸੇਵ ॥੨੧॥

All the gods, according to the prescribed method, made obeisance to her.21.

ਰੇਖਤਾ ॥

ਕਰੀ ਹੈ ਹਕੀਕਤਿ ਮਾਲੂਮ ਖ੝ਦ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੇਤੀ ਲੀਆ ਮਹਖਾਸ੝ਰ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਛੀਨ ਧਾਮ ਹੈ ॥

The gods told the goddess all their occurrences; sating that the demon-king Mahishaura had seized all their abodes.


ਕੀਜੈ ਸੋਈ ਬਾਤ ਮਾਤ ਤ੝ਮ ਕਉ ਸ੝ਹਾਤ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਕਿ ਕਦੀਮ ਤਕ ਆਝ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਮ ਹੈ ॥

They said, "O mother, Thou mayest do whatever pleasest Thee, we have all come to seek Thy refuge.


ਦੀਜੈ ਬਾਜ ਦੇਸ ਹਮੈ ਮੇਟੀਝ ਕਲੇਸ ਲੇਸ ਕੀਜੀਝ ਅਭੇਸ ਉਨੈ ਬਡੋ ਯਹ ਕਾਮ ਹੈ ॥

Please get us back our abodes, remove our suffering and make those demons garbles and wealthless. This is a very great task which can only be accomplished by Thee.

ਕੂਕਰ ਕੋ ਮਾਰਤ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਨਾਮ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਮਾਰਤ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲੈ ਕੈ ਖਾਵੰਦ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ॥੨੨॥

No one beats or talks ill to the dog, only his master is rebuked and censured."22.

ਸ੝ਨਤ ਬਚਨ ਝ ਚਡਿਕਾ ਮਨ ਮੈਂ ਉਠੀ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

Hearing These words, Chandika was filled with great rage in her mind.

chandi nu gusa aa gya, asha ayin kehnd ne

ਸਭ ਦੈਤਨ ਕੋ ਛੈ ਕਰਉ ਬਸਉ ਸਿਵਪ੝ਰੀ ਜਾਇ ॥੨੩॥

She said, "I shall destroy all the demons, go and abide in the city of Shiva.23.

sareyan nu ake khatam karkey basna hai ithe...A DharamYudh hunda hai, sach nu uttey lyaya hai jhoot dhalle. avar vaasna nahi prabh dharam yudh ke chaye

ਦੈਤਨ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੋ ਜਬੈ ਚੰਡੀ ਕੀਓ ਪ੝ਰਕਾਸ ॥

When the idea of destroying the demons was given by Chandi;

jad daitan de vadh vaste, antar mukhi ton mukhi hoyi, jalao vich hoyi, mann jung da banaya....

ਸਿੰਘ ਸੰਖ ਅਉ ਅਸਤ੝ਰ ਸਭ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਆਇਗੇ ਪਾਸ ॥੨੪॥

The lion, conch and all other weapons and arms came themselves to her.24.

sara gyan tarak sabh kol aa gaye, apey aa gaye paas kidron chatkey nahi, Singh gyan hunda Haunsla hunda

ਦੈਤ ਸੰਘਾਰਨ ਕੇ ਨਮਿਤ ਕਾਲ ਜਨਮ੝ ਇਹ ਲੀਨ ॥

It seemed that Death itself had taken the birth to destroy the demons.

emey lailo kaal janam lai gya

ਸਿੰਘ ਚੰਡਿ ਬਾਹਨ ਭਇਓ ਸਤ੝ਰਨ ਕਉ ਦ੝ਖ੝ ਦੀਨ ॥੨੫॥

The lion, who causes great suffering to the enemies, became the vehicle of the goddess Chandi.25.

The terrible form of the lion is like an elephant, he is mighty like a big lion.

ਜਿਉ ਧ੝ਬੀਆ ਸਰਤਾ ਤਟ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ਲੈ ਪਟ ਕੋ ਪਟ ਸਾਥ ਪਛਾਰਿਓ ॥੩੪॥

She scanned once all the army of the enemy and with terrible shout destroyed it.

Seeing a large number of chopped and bleeding demons, the poet feels in his mind;

ਜਿਉ ਖਗਰਾਜ ਬਡੋ ਅਹਿਰਾਜ ਸਮਾਜ ਕੈ ਕਾਟਿ ਕਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥੩੬॥

That Garuda had chopped the snakes into bits and thrown them helter-skelter.36.

The goddess killed many demons and made the strong ones weak.

ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨ ਮੈ ਚਮੂੰ ਚਾਲ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨ ॥੩੭॥

Holding the weapons in her hand, she made the forces of the enemy run away.37.

ਭਜੀ ਚਮੂੰ ਮਹਖਾਸ੝ਰੀ ਤਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ਨਿਜ ਈਸ ॥

The army of Mahishasura ran away and sought the shelter of its king.

ਧਾਇ ਜਾਇ ਤਿਨ ਇਉ ਕਹਿਓ ਹਨਿਓ ਪਦਮ ਭਟ ਬੀਸ ॥੩੮॥

It told him after running that twenty padam of the forces had been killd.38.

20 padam tan chop kara ditte, khabbe pase te saje pase kehnde asi ki karanh ge

ਸ੝ਨਿ ਮਹਖਾਸ੝ਰ ਮੂੜ ਮਤਿ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਉਠਿਓ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥

Hearing this, the foolish Mahishasura was highly enraged.

ਬਾਤ ਸ੝ਨੀ ਪ੝ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਭ ਸੈਨਹਿ ਸੂਰ ਮਿਲੇ ਇਕ ਮੰਤ੝ਰ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

Listening to the words of their king, all the warriors together took this decision.

With swords in their hands, and uttering loud shouts of "Kill, Kill", the army of demons swarmed from all directions.

They all besieged Chandi from all the four sides, like the moon encircled amongst clouds.40.

Scanning the army of Mahishasura, Chandika caught hold of her fierce bow.

ਦਛਨ ਬਾਮ ਚਲਾਇ ਘਨੇ ਸਰ ਕੋਪ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਜ੝ਧ੝ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

With anger, she waged the terrible war by showering the rain of her innumerable shafts.

ਝਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਦ੝ਵੈ ਕੀਝ ਦ੝ਵੈ ਤੇ ਕੀਨੇ ਚਾਰ ॥੪੨॥

She cut off the warriors into halves and quarters.42.

ਇਹ ਭਾਤ ਕੋ ਜ੝ਧ੝ ਕਰਿਓ ਸ੝ਨਿ ਕੈ ਕਵਲਾਸ ਮੈ ਧਿਆਨ ਛ੝ਟਿਓ ਹਰਿਕਾ ॥

Such a terrible war was waged that the profound contemplation of Shiva was infringed.

ਜਨ੝ ਖੇਲਨ ਕੋ ਸਰਤਾ ਤਟ ਜਾਇ ਚਲਾਵਤ ਹੈ ਛਿਛਲੀ ਲਰਕਾ ॥੪੩॥

ਤਬ ਘੇਰਿ ਲਈ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਦੈਤਨ ਇਉ ਉਪਮਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥

That the body of the mother of the world moved swifter than her mind, she appeared as lightning moving in the clouds.48.

When that mighty goddess killed all the chivalrous demons with her power;

Then so much mass of blood fell on the earth that it became a sea of blood.

Then the goddess Durga glistened like lightning amongst the army of elephants.50.

ਮਹਾਬੀਰ ਕਹਰੀ ਦ੝ਪਹਰੀ ਕੋ ਭਾਨ ਮਾਨੋ ਦੇਵਨ ਕੈ ਕਾਜ ਦੇਵੀ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਦੈਤ ਮਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

Supremely heroic goddess, with the magnificence of the sun at noon, killed the demon-king for the well-being of gods.

  • Mahabir, Kahari c, kahar dhaa dinda c, dohpahri de suraj warga tej c...Dharam vich pakshpat hundiyo nahi, nirpeksh adharmiya di term hai........devteyan waste devi de daint maarta, vikaar marte

ਅਉਰ ਦਲ ਭਾਜਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਉਨ ਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਭਾਜੇ ਮੇਘ ਇੰਦ੝ਰ ਦੀਨੋ ਰਾਜ ਬਲ ਆਪਨ ਸੋ ਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

The remaining demon-army ran helter-skelter in such a way, as the cloud speed away before the wind, the goddess with her prowess bestowed the kingdom on Indra.

ਦੇਸ ਦੇਸ ਕੇ ਨਰੇਸ ਡਾਰੇ ਹੈ ਸ੝ਰੇਸ ਪਾਇ ਕੀਨੋ ਅਭਖੇਕ ਸ੝ਰ ਮੰਡਲ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

She caused sovereigns of many countries to bow in obeisance to Indra and his coronation ceremony was thoughtfully performed by the assembly of gods.

ਈਹਾਂ ਭਈ ਗ੝ਪਤਿ ਪ੝ਰਗਟ ਜਾਇ ਤਹਾਂ ਭਈ ਜਹਾਂ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿਅੰਬਰਿ ਕੋ ਡਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੫੨॥

In this way, the goddess disappeared from here and manifested herself there, where the god Shiva was seated on the lion-skin.52.
