Jay Leno a famous comedian in the USA (but almost unknown elsewhere in the world) made a cheap joke of one of their presidential candidate and also the Sri Harmandar Sahib, more commonly known as the 'Golden Temple' on January 19, 2012. This has angered Sikhs and Indians as their most revered shrine located in Amritsar, Punjab has been involved in this insignificant and trivial local mocking in the USA to gain some cheap laughs in their comedy show.

This controversial comment about the Golden temple, by Jay Leno in his television series has raised strong protest from a diverse spectrum of the population of India and Sikhs around the world. They are angered that their most respect symbol of the highest spiritual elevation and a site visited daily by many ten of thousands of people of all affiliation has be lowered to such a low and insignificant level - a house for a rich political.

Background

The Sikhs associate the Golden temple with their struggle against the oppression which persisted in India during the 17th and 18th centuries spread by the tyrannical Mughals. They also remember the recent death of 1000's of devotees on this site in 1984. This is the site where ten of 1000's have been killed in their struggle for their basic rights and their fight for self determinations since this symbols was built in 1588.

This comment by the comedian shows utter disrespect to the ten of 1000s who lost their lives here and in the surrounding regions in a desperate fight for freedom and the right to live in peace and security.

The shrine has a most noble history and the highest ethical mission is disseminated from here; many 100s of nobility have bowed to the Guru Granth Sahib in honour of the message that it promotes. The venue has highest respect in the eyes of all Indians probably without exception; it is revered and eternally by millions, probably by billions of human being around the world.

Reason for the outcry

The Golden temple is not a house where someone lives; it is a place for prayer and connection with the one Almighty Lord. It is a place where millions bow and touch the sacred ground where the highest principles of human behaviour and conduct of the ultimate kind is promoted, humbly recited and uttered non-stop during the daylight hours.

What has fuelled this anger is the fact that the Americans, in there normal ignorance, not only have shown disrespect for the shrine but have given negative spin to a place that they have no knowledge about.

All places which promote peace and a positive way of living should be honoured. Instead of promoting this honoured site, they have demoted it to a house of a rich politician! Every Indian has observed that the American have never given an positive coverage to the high principles of their society and will very easily and repeatedly display them and their ways in a negative manner.

Final thought

May the message of peace, respect for all and living a honourable life under one God, reach the producers, directors and participants of the Jay Leno show and every other such production around the world.
