Indy Sagu

Inderpal Singh Sagu (born July 25, 1979) better known by his stage artist name Indy Sagu, is a British Sikh award winning record producer, Dj, musician, and vocalist. Indy was born and raised in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK and began his musical career in his hometown in 1996. He is known as the infamous urban UK Asian Dj and record producer who has toured internationally at world festivals, private functions, and gigs throughout. Indy is the pioneer of infusing traditional Punjabi sounds with urban western sounds with a special emphasis on Hip-Hop, he is certainly establishing himself as one of the forefront upcoming Sikh musical producers of our time.

History of Life and Music Career

British born and raised Indy Sagu is an acclaimed multi-talented Punjabi music producer, musician, singer, and entertainer. The award winning artist has made a global name for himself as one of the forefront upcoming musical producers of our time. Indy is one of the first Sikh artist’s and music producers who is at the forefront of crossing over into the mainstream industry with an entirely new sound.

Indy spends ample time exploring and experimenting with a variety of sounds from various genres of music. Drawing on this wide array of genre inspiration he concentrates on the production of music, specifically infusing traditional Punjabi music with sounds from around the world. Indy spends much time learning percussion with the goals to introduce new vibrant beats, well structured rhythms, funky riffs, sync fuelled anthems, and captivating melodies along with meaningful lyrical content, all of which results in a refinement of a uniquely fused urbanized East-West street sound. Indy’s sound is also strongly influenced by his personal life experiences and his Sikh heritage. He encompasses these inspirational influences and incorporates them into the production of his music. Indy is recognized as a leader who has redefined the music industry by focusing on creating a defying musical niche of fusion British Bhangra that is distinct to him.

Indy’s musical talents were inherited from his family’s musical background. From an early age Indy’s father taught him how to play various Indian instruments such as the dholki, tumbi, and tabla and Indy then self taught himself to play the keyboards, guitar, and drums. Having purchased his first set of turntables at age 16 he quickly took over the Asian underground scene and became known throughout the UK as the Dj and artist who infused traditional Bhangra into an urbanized street sound that was simply fun and unique. In 2001, Indy’s breakthrough album The Debut launched his career in spectacular form by topping the Asian music billboards. He then went on to receiving the UK BBC Best Newcomer Award presented by Tim Westwood at the [1] UK Asian Music Awards (AMAs)] and became an instant global success. In 2004, he released his second groundbreaking album entitled Indystructable which fulfilled the sudden demand surging from Britain for a genre combination of Punjabi and Hip-Hop sounds. In 2008, Indy established himself as an entrepreneur by forming his own independent record label and launched his third album Reincarnated which served to reaffirm his artistic production skills. This album as the name suggests was the re-birth of Indy both personally and as an artist in many ways.

Indy has been entertaining and performing in front of energized crowds globally and has collaborated with Indian Artists Surinder Shinda, Kuldeep Manak, and performed alongside Jay Sean and legendary Hip-Hop artists Public Enemy and Pras from the Fugees. His international fan-base serves to demonstrate that his music has no boundaries as it attracts diverse crowds of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

In pursuit of founding new ventures Indy is establishing himself as a leading Sikh business mogul.
