RDB Punjabi DJ/Band

RDB (an acronym for Rhythm, Dhol, Bass) are a Punjabi DJ production team consisting of three Sikh brothers; Kuly Singh (24), Manjeet Singh (23) and Surjeet Singh (22) (or Kuly , Manj, and Surj for short) who blend western genres with traditional Punjabi beats and vocals. Currently they perform both DJ sets and concerts all over the world, namely the UK, USA, Canada, India and Pakistan.

Background

RDB are essentially a group of three Sikh brothers from Bradford although; Kuly, Manj and Surj who over the past four years have been performing, producing and DJing for thousands of people in nightclubs, festivals and parties.

Originally club DJs, the RDB brothers play a blend of Bhangra, House, UK garage, Hindi, Bollywood, RnB, Hiphop, Ragga and Dance music. Even having firmly established a fan base worldwide, the RDB team still say they represent their own country, the UK, where they have performed in many well known clubs.

They have performed alongside celebrities from the urban world of music, including Tim Westwood, Mc Romeo, So Solid Crew, Shola Ama, The Dream Team, Misteeq, UK Apachi.

Recently they have also worked with massive mainstream Bollywood film maker Vipul Shah, responsible for Namaste London and Singh is King. Vocalizing and producing hit tracks like Rafta Rafta and Singh is King - Title song.

They have also performed at the international acclaimed IFFA awards in the UK in 2007 and in Bangkok in 2008 alongside their good friend and superstar actor Akshay Kumar.

Sound

RDB have been pioneers of British bhangra by adding their flavour of urban sounds.

Hit releases

Since June 2002, RDB have released 13 releases into the UK Bhangra market, receiving good ratings[citation needed]. All albums have hit and held the number one spots in bhangra charts across the board[citation needed]. The videos (which are directed, shot and edited by RDB themselves) have been aired on most major Asian TV channels such as Zee TV, B4U Music and ARY Digital.

RDB were also the first[citation needed] bhangra production Dj group to bring UK Garage influences to the Bhangra sound and with songs such as “Putt Sardaran Dhe”, “Sah Rukh Dha”, “Dil Karda” , "Aaj Meh Peeni" and “Aaja Mahi” (with the collaboration of British Indians such as Mc Metz and Mc Trix).

More recently they have also produced exclusive tracks on :

  • Urban Explosion (Warner Bros. Records Music Label) a compilation album which sold over 60,000 copies and featured in the top ten selling charts.
  • Essential Asian Flavas (Outcaste Records)
  • Desi Nation (Future World Funk . Sterns Music Africa)
  • Desi Beats (Def Jam)

As well as producing music for albums, RDB have also created tracks for such motion pictures such as:

  • Namaste London feat Akshay Kumar & Rishi Kapoor

Exposure

The RDB anthems have been spinning on Radio 1 in the form of “Bobby and Nihal presents” and also on the “Lamacq Live” show over the past year now, with “Jatt Marda” holding the no.1 spot on Bobby and Nihal's Top Ten.

In December 2002, ‘The Face’ magazine did a 5 page exclusive interview on the RDB team labelling RDB as “The Asian So Solid Crew”.

RDB was also featured in the Bhangra Article in the mainstream DJ magazine and also Mixmag.

RDB now have there very own bi-weekly Saturday night radio show called ‘The RDB After Party’ on 'Urbanfusion' which plays out nationally on the Galaxy Radio Network.

RDB have recently collaborated with Bollywood Singer Himesh Reshammiya in 2006 on a track on Namastey London called Rafta Rafta.

Also, they created the title track of Singh is Kinng, which is releasing on August 8th, 2008, titled Singh is Kinng which featured the vocals of Snoop Dogg & Akshay Kumar.
