'''Dr. Madanjit Kaur''' Sahoda is a prolific author of many books and articles dealing with Sikhi and its history. Serving as the Principal of the Master Tara Singh Memorial College of Ludhiana, she was honored on September 22, 2004 by being  elected to the Panjab University Senate from the principals’ constituency.
Dr Madanjit Kaur was born on 10 November 1939. She obtained M.A. History and Ph.D. Degree from the
University of Allahabad; served in the University of Allahabad, University of Gorakhpur and
Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Her thirty five years research experience is dedicated to Sikh
history.
 
She participated in International Conferences on Sikh History and South East Asian Studies
in USA, UK, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia and presented papers on Sikh History and Punjab
Heritage. She remained Dean faculty of Humanities and Religious Studies, GNDU, Chairperson
Press and Publication GNDU, Editor Journal of Sikh Studies GNDU, Member Senate and syndicate
GNDU, and member Executive Council Bhai Veer Singh Sahitya Sadan New Delhi, Member Senate
and Academic Council, Punjabi University, Patiala. She retired as Professor, Department of Guru
Nanak Studies GNDU and served as Professor and Chairperson Guru Gobind Singh Chair till 2001.

the occasion of the Tri-centenary of the Creation of the Khalsa in 1999 at Anandpur Sahib and
 
300th Shaheedi Anniversary of Sahibzadas in 2004 at Fatehgarh Sahib. All India Sikh Educational
Conference has also honoured her twice. She was honoured by: Punjab Modern Academy of Fine
Arts and Crafts, Amritsaar, 1986, World Sikh Conference (Women's Section), Amritsar, 1995,
Academy of Guru Granth Studies, USA, 1992. She was awarded 'Panth Ratan Jathedar Gurcharan
Singh Tohra Memorial Award' in 2007 by Sikh Educational Society, Chandigarh for her outstanding
and valuable services in the field of Sikh history, culture, research and education. She have been
awarded Life Fellowship from Punjabi University, Patiala, 2010.
 
Her name is included in Asia's Who is Who, Refacimento Asia and Men and Women of Achievements.
 
She is a descendant of Bhai Daya Singh (one of the Panj Piaras). Her forefathers served
Harimandir Sahib about three centuries. Her family has a background of defence services.
Her personal library and research collection has been gifted to Government Museum and
Art Gallery, Chandigarh.


The India International Friendship Society, a voluntary organization has conferred upon Dr Sahota the Bharat Jyoti award and the [[Punjab Rattan]] (Jewel of Punjab) award was also presented to her on the 37th SMISS annual award function November 2003.
