ਮਾਈ ਸ੝ਨਤ ਸੋਚ ਭੈ ਡਰਤ ॥ ਮੇਰ ਤੇਰ ਤਜਉ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ਸਰਨਿ ਸ੝ਆਮੀ ਕੀ ਪਰਤ ॥1॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥  
ਕਾਮ੝ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ੝ ਲੋਭ੝ ਮੋਹ੝ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛ੝ਟਕੈ ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੝ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥


ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨਉ ਨਾਹਿ ਨ ਕਾ ਬੋਲ ਕਰਤ ॥ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਉ ਹੀਝ ਮੋਰੇ ਤੇ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਜਾਈ ਹਉ ਮਰਤ ॥1॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:
O mother, I hear of death, and think of it, and I am filled with fear.
Renouncing 'mine and yours' and egotism, I have sought the Sanctuary of the Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
Whatever He says, I accept that as good. I do not say ""No"" to what He says.
Let me not forget Him, even for an instant; forgetting Him, I die. ||1||
The Giver of peace, God, the Perfect Creator, endures my great ignorance.
I am worthless, ugly and of low birth, O Nanak, but my Husband Lord is the embodiment of bliss. ||2||3||


If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well;
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||
Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved.
Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਮਾਈ—ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਸੋਚ—ਚਿੰਤਾ। ਭੈ— {ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਭਉ' ਤੋਂ ਬਹ੝-ਵਚਨ} ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਡਰ—ਸਹਮ। ਤਜਉ—ਤਜਉਂ, ਮੈਂ ਛੱਡ ਦਿਆਂ। ਪਰਤ—ਪਈ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।
 
ਭਲ—ਭਲਾ। ਮਾਨਉ—ਮਾਨਉਂ, ਮੰਨਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਨਾਹਿਨ—ਨਾਹੀਂ। ਕਾਬੋਲ—ਕਬੋਲ, ਉਲਟਾ ਬੋਲ, ਖਰ੝ਹ੝ਹਵਾ ਬੋਲ। ਨਿਮਖ—ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ। ਬਿਸਰਉ— {ਹ੝ਕਮੀ ਭਵਿੱਖਤ, ਅੱਨ ਪ੝ਰਖ, ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ} ਕਿਤੇ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਝ। ਹੀਝ ਮੋਰੇ ਤੇ—ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ। ਹੀਆ—ਹਿਰਦਾ। ਜਾਈ—ਜਾਈਂ। ਹਉ—ਮੈਂ।੧।
 
ਸ੝ਖਦਾਈ—ਸ੝ਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਇਆਨਪ—ਅੰਞਾਣਪ੝ਣਾ। ਜਰਤ—ਜਰਦਾ, ਸਹਾਰਦਾ। ਨਿਰਗ੝ਨਿ— {ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ ਲਿੰਗ} ਗ੝ਣ-ਹੀਨ। ਕਰੂਪਿ—ਭੈੜੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਾਲੀ। ਹਉ—ਮੈਂ। ਭਰਤ—ਭਰਤਾ, ਖਸਮ।੨।
 
ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! (ਖਸਮ-ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਨਾਹ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ) ਸ੝ਣ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਫ੝ਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਡਰ-ਸਹਮ ਵਾਪਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਡਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ (ਕਿ ਕਿਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਹਾਲ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ। ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਤਾਂਘ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਈ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਗਵਾ ਦਿਆਂ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿਆਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
 
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਪ੝ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਹ੝ਕਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਭਲਾ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕੋਈ ਉਲਟਾ ਬੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਦੀ। (ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਮੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਇਹ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਦੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਹ ਵਿਸਰੇ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਭ੝ਲਾਇਆਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।
 
ਹੇ ਮਾਂ! ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸ੝ਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਞਾਣਪ੝ਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਬਹ੝ਤ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਮਾਂ!) ਮੈਂ ਗ੝ਣ-ਹੀਨ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕੋਝੀ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਾਂ, ਮੇਰੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕ੝ਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ; ਪਰ, ਮੇਰਾ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਸਦਾ ਖਿੜੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।੨।੩।


ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।

ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।
