ਕਾਮ੝ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ੝ ਲੋਭ੝ ਮੋਹ੝ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛ੝ਟਕੈ ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੝ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਯਕ—ਇਕ। ਅਰਜ—ਅਰਜ਼, ਬੇਨਤੀ। ਗ੝ਫਤਮ—ਗ੝ਫ਼ਤਮ, ਮੈਂ ਆਖ਼ੀ {ਗ੝ਫ਼ਤ—ਆਖੀ। ਮ—ਮੈਂ}। ਪੇਸਿ—ਪੇਸ਼ਿ, ਸਾਹਮਣੇ, ਅੱਗੇ। ਪੇਸਿ ਤੋ—ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ। ਦਰ—ਵਿਚ। ਗੋਸ—ਗੋਸ਼, ਕੰਨ। ਦਰ ਗੋਸ—ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਕ੝ਨ—ਕਰ। ਦਰ ਗੋਸ ਕ੝ਨ—ਕੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ, ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸ੝ਣ। ਕਰਤਾਰ—ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਹਕਾ—ਹੱਕਾ, ਸੱਚਾ। ਕਬੀਰ—ਵਡਾ। ਕਰੀਮ—ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਝਬ—ਵਿਕਾਰ। ਬੇਝਬ—ਨਿਰ—ਵਿਕਾਰ, ਪਵਿਤ੝ਰ। ਪਰਵਦਗਾਰ—ਪਰਵਰਦਗਾਰ, ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।੧।
 
ਮ੝ਕਾਮ—ਥਾਂ। ਫਾਨੀ—ਫ਼ਾਨੀ, ਫ਼ਨਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਨਾਸਵੰਤ। ਮ੝ਕਾਮੇ ਫਾਨੀ—ਫ਼ਨਾਹ ਦਾ ਥਾਂ। ਤਹਕੀਕ—ਸੱਚ। ਦਿਲ—ਹੇ ਦਿਲ! ਦਾਨੀ—ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣ। ਮਮ—ਮੇਰਾ। ਸਰ—ਸਿਰ। ਮੂਇ—ਵਾਲ। ਮਮ ਸਰ ਮੂਇ—ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ। ਅਜਰਾਈਲ—ਅਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ, ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ। ਗਿਰਫਤਹ—ਗਿਰਫ਼ਤਹ, ਗ੝ਰਿਫ਼ਤਹ, ਫੜੇ ਹੋਝ ਹਨ। ਦਿਲ—ਹੇ ਦਿਲ! ਹੇਚਿ ਨ—ਕ੝ਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਦਾਨੀ—ਤੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
 
ਜਨ—ਜ਼ਨ, ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ। ਪਿਸਰ—ਪ੝ੱਤਰ। ਪਦਰ—ਪਿਉ। ਬਿਰਾਦਰ—ਭਰਾ। ਬਿਰਾਦਰਾਂ—ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਕਸ—ਕੋਈ ਭੀ। ਨੇਸ—ਨੇਸਤ, ਨ ਅਸਤ, ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਦਸਤ—ਹੱਥ। ਗੀਰ—ਫੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਦਸਤੰਗੀਰ—ਹੱਥ ਫੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਆਖਿਰ—ਆਖ਼ਿਰ, ਅੰਤ ਨੂੰ। ਬਿਅਫਤਮ—ਬਿਅਫ਼ਤਮ, ਮੈਂ ਡਿੱਗਾ {ਉਫ਼ਤਾਦਨ—ਡਿੱਗਣਾ}। ਕਸ—ਕੋਈ ਭੀ। ਦਾਰਦ੝—ਰੱਖਦਾ, ਰੱਖ ਸਕਦਾ। {ਦਾਸ਼ਤਨ—ਰੱਖਣਾ}। ਚੂੰ—ਜਦੋਂ। ਸਵਦ—ਸ਼ਵਦ, ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਤਕਬੀਰ—ਉਹ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਜੋ ਮ੝ਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਬਾਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਪੜ੝ਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਨਾਜ਼ਾ।੨।
 
ਸਬ—ਸ਼ਬ, ਰਾਤ। ਰੋਜ—ਰੋਜ਼, ਦਿਨ। ਗਸਤਮ—ਗਸ਼ਤਮ, ਮੈਂ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਦਰ—ਵਿਚ। ਹਵਾ—ਹਿਰਸ, ਲਾਲਚ। ਕਰਦੇਮ—ਅਸੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਕਰਦ—ਕੀਤਾ। ਬਦੀ—ਬ੝ਰਾਈ। ਖਿਆਲ —ਖ਼ਿਆਲ। ਬਦੀ ਖਿਆਲ—ਬ੝ਰਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ। ਗਾਹੇ—ਕਦੇ। ਗਾਹੇ ਨ—ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਾਹ। ਕਰਦਮ—ਮੈਂ ਕੀਤੀ। ਈ—ਇਹ। ਚਿਨੀ—ਜਿਹਾ। ਈ ਚਿਨੀ—ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ। ਅਹਵਾਲ—ਹਾਲ।੩।
 
ਬਦ—ਭੈੜਾ। ਬਖਤ—ਬਖ਼ਤ, ਨਸੀਬਾ। ਬਦ ਬਖਤ—ਭੈੜੇ ਨਸੀਬੇ ਵਾਲਾ। ਹਮ—ਅਸੀ। ਚ੝—ਵਰਗਾ। ਹਮ ਚ੝—ਸਾਡੇ ਵਰਗਾ, ਮੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ। ਬਖੀਲ—ਬਖ਼ੀਲ, ਚ੝ਗ਼ਲੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਗਾਫਿਲ—ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਿਲ, ਗ਼ਫਲਤ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, ਸ੝ਸਤ, ਢਿੱਲੜ, ਲਾ—ਪਰਵਾਹ। ਨਜਰ—ਨਜ਼ਰ। ਬੇ ਨਜਰ—ਢੀਠ, ਨਿਲੱਜ। ਬੇ—ਬਿਨਾ। ਬਾਕ—ਡਰ। ਬੇ ਬਾਕ—ਨਿਡਰ। ਬ੝ਗੋਯਦ—ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ {ਗ੝ਫ਼ਤਨ—ਆਖਣਾ}। ਜਨ੝—ਦਾਸ। ਤ੝ਰਾ—ਤੈਨੂੰ। ਪਾ ਖਾਕ—ਪਾ ਖ਼ਾਕ, ਪੈਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਕ, ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ। ਚਾਕਰ—ਸੇਵਕ।੪।
 
ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ! ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਤੂੰ (ਸਭ ਤੋਂ) ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੝ਰ ਹਸਤੀ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਪਾਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਇਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸ੝ਣ।੧।
 
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਦਿਲ! ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਜਾਣ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਦ੝ਨੀਆ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਦਿਲ! ਤੂੰ ਕ੝ਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ (ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਫ਼ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ) ਅਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਲ ਫੜੇ ਹੋਝ ਹਨ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
 
ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ, ਪ੝ੱਤਰ, ਪਿਉ, (ਸਾਰੇ) ਭਰਾ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਜਦੋਂ) ਆਖ਼ਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਡਿੱਗਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਦੋਂ ਮੌਤ ਆ ਗਈ), ਜਦੋਂ ਮ੝ਰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਬਣ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਨਮਾਜ਼ ਪੜ੝ਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਥੇ) ਰੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।੨।
 
(ਸਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਮੈਂ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਮੈਂ ਬਦੀ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਮੈਂ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਨੇਕੀ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। (ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ!) ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹਾਲ ਹੈ।੩।
 
(ਹੇ ਕਰਤਾਰ!) ਮੇਰੇ ਵਰਗਾ (ਦ੝ਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਨਿਭਾਗਾ, ਨਿੰਦਕ, ਲਾ-ਪਰਵਾਹ, ਢੀਠ ਤੇ ਨਿਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਤੇਰਾ) ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਮਿਲੇ।੪।੧।

I offer this one prayer to You; please listen to it, O Creator Lord.
If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well;
You are true, great, merciful and spotless, O Cherisher Lord. ||1||
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||


The world is a transitory place of mortality - know this for certain in your mind.
Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved.
Azraa-eel, the Messenger of Death, has caught me by the hair on my head, and yet, I do not know it at all in my mind. ||1||Pause||
Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause||


Spouse, children, parents and siblings - none of them will be there to hold your hand.

And when at last I fall, and the time of my last prayer has come, there shall be no one to rescue me. ||2||

ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।
I never did good deeds; this is my condition. ||3||
 
I am unfortunate, miserly, negligent, shameless and without the Fear of God.
Says Nanak, I am Your humble servant, the dust of the feet of Your slaves. ||4||1||


ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।

ਕਾਮ੝ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ੝ ਲੋਭ੝ ਮੋਹ੝ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛ੝ਟਕੈ ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੝ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥

kaam krodhh lobh mohu mittaavai shhuttakai dhuramath apunee dhhaaree || hoe nimaanee saev kamaavehi thaa preetham hovehi man piaaree ||1||

sun su(n)dhar saadhhoo bachan oudhhaaree || dhookh bhookh mittai thaero sehasaa sukh paavehi thoo(n) sukhaman naaree ||1|| rehaao ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।

ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।
