ਕੋਟਿ ਬਿਘਨ ਤਿਸ੝ ਲਾਗਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਨਦਿਨ੝ ਬਿਲਪਤੇ ਜਿਉ ਸ੝ੰਞੈ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥1॥
ਕਾਮ੝ ਕ੝ਰੋਧ੝ ਲੋਭ੝ ਮੋਹ੝ ਮਿਟਾਵੈ ਛ੝ਟਕੈ ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਮਾਣੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਪ੝ਰੀਤਮ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥੧॥


ਮਃ 5 ॥ ਪਿਰੀ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਜਾ ਥੀਝ ਸਾਈ ਸ੝ਹਾਵੀ ਰ੝ਤਿ ॥ ਘੜੀ ਮ੝ਹਤ੝ ਨਹ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵੀਝ ਨਿਤ ॥2॥
ਸ੝ਣਿ ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ ਉਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਮਿਟੈ ਤੇਰੋ ਸਹਸਾ ਸ੝ਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਤੂੰ ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਕੋਟਿ-ਕ੝ਰੋੜਾਂ। ਅਨਦਿਨ੝-ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼। ਘਰਿ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ।
kaam krodhh lobh mohu mittaavai shhuttakai dhuramath apunee dhhaaree ||
 
hoe nimaanee saev kamaavehi thaa preetham hovehi man piaaree ||1||
ਪਿਰੀ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ-ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ। ਜਾ-ਜਦੋਂ। ਸ੝ਹਾਵੀ-ਸੋਹਣੀ। ਮ੝ਹਤ੝-ਮ੝ਹੂਰਤ, ਦੋ ਘੜੀ। ਰਵੀਝ-ਸਿਮਰੀਝ।


ਵਰੀਆਮ-ਬਹਾਦਰ। ਹੋੜੀਝ-ਰੋਕਿਆ। ਸਤਾਣੀ-ਤਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ। ਹਠ-ਹਠੀਲੀ। ਪੰਚਾ-ਪੰਜ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਨੇ। ਨਾਰੀ-ਇੰਦ੝ਰੇ। ਅਉਧੂਤ-ਤਿਆਗੀ। ਜਿਣਿ-ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ। ਤ੝ਰੈ ਗ੝ਣ-ਤਿੰਨਾਂ ਗ੝ਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ। ਭਰਮ੝-ਭਟਕਣਾ। ਕੋਟ੝-ਕਿਲ੝ਹਾ (ਇਸ ਪਉੜੀ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਦੇ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਕੋਟਿ' ਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਕੋਟ੝' ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ। ਖਾਈ-ਖਾਲੀ, ਖਾਲ। ਕਿਤ੝ ਬਿਧਿ-ਕਿਸ ਵਿਧੀ ਨਾਲ। ਦਲ੝-ਫ਼ੌਜ। ਕਰ-ਹੱਥ।

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:


ਅਰਥ: ਜਿਸ ਮਨ੝ੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਸਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕ੝ਰੋੜਾਂ ਵਿਘਨ ਆ ਘੇਰਦੇ ਹਨ; ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ) ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਇਉਂ ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸ੝ੰਞੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਾਂ ਲੌਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਓਥੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਕ੝ਝ ਨਹੀਂ)।
If she renounces and eliminates her sexual desire, anger, greed and attachment, and her evil-mindedness and self-conceit as well;
 
and if, becoming humble, she serves Him, then she becomes dear to her Beloved's Heart. ||1||
ਉਹੀ ਰ੝ੱਤ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੇਲ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੀਝ, ਕਦੇ ਘੜੀ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਨਾਹ ਭ੝ੱਲੇ।੨।


(ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰ) ਬੜੇ ਸੂਰਮੇ ਤੇ ਬਹਾਦਰ (ਸਿਪਾਹੀ) ਹਨ, ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਲਿ੝ਹਆ ਨਹੀਂ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੜੀ ਬਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਤੇ ਹਠੀਲੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, (ਦ੝ਨੀਆਦਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਰਹੇ) ਤਿਆਗੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਦਸ ਇੰਦ੝ਰੇ ਚਮੋੜ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਭ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਜਿੱਤ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅਨ੝ਸਾਰੀ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਬੱਸ! ਇਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਲੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਤ੝ਰੈਗ੝ਣੀ ਜੀਵ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਬਾਉ ਹੇਠ ਹਨ। ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ) ਭਟਕਣਾ (ਇਹ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਦਾ) ਕਿਲ੝ਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦਾ ਮੋਹ, ਉਸ ਕਿਲ੝ਹੇ ਦੇ ਦ੝ਆਲੇ ਡੂੰਘੀ) ਖਾਈ (ਪ੝ੱਟੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ, (ਇਹ ਕਿਲ੝ਹਾ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਤੋੜਿਆ ਜਾਝ?
Listen, O beautiful soul-bride: By the Word of the Holy Saint, you shall be saved.
 
Your pain, hunger and doubt shall vanish, and you shall obtain peace, O happy soul-bride. ||1||Pause||
ਪੂਰੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਕਰੜੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਸਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਜੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਖਲੋਤਾ ਰਹਾਂ।੧੫।

ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।

Salok, Fifth Mehla:
 
Millions of obstacles stand in the way of one who forgets the Name.
O Nanak, night and day, he croaks like a raven in a deserted house. ||1||
 
Fifth Mehla:
Beauteous is that season, when I am united with my Beloved.
I do not forget Him for a moment or an instant; O Nanak, I contemplate Him constantly. ||2||
 
Pauree:
Even brave and mighty men cannot withstand the powerful and overwhelming army which the five passions have gathered.
The ten organs of sensation attach even detached renunciates to sensory pleasures.
They seek to conquer and overpower them, and so increase their following.
The world of the three dispositions is under their influence; no one can stand against them.
So tell me - how can the fort of doubt and the moat of Maya be overcome?
Worshipping the Perfect Guru, this awesome force is subdued.
I stand before Him, day and night, with my palms pressed together. ||15||


ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਪਦਅਰਥ:- ਮਿਟਾਵੈ-ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਛ੝ਟਕੈ-ਮ੝ੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । ਦ੝ਰਮਤਿ-ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ । ਅਪ੝ਨੀ ਧਾਰੀ-ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੋਈ । ਕਮਾਵਹਿ-ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਕਰੇਂ । ਮਨਿ-ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ।1।

ਸ੝ੰਦਰਿ-ਹੇ ਸ੝ੰਦਰੀ! ਹੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ਸਾਧੂ ਬਚਨ-ਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ । ਉਧਾਰੀ-ਉਧਾਰਿ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮ੝ੰਦਰ ਵਿਚ ਡ੝ੱਬਣ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ । ਸਹਸਾ-ਸਹਮ । ਸ੝ਖਮਨਿ-ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ । ਨਾਰੀ-ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੝ਰੀ! ।1।ਰਹਾਉ।
