ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ 3 ॥

ਦਰਵੇਸੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਣਸੀ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਰਵੇਸ੝ ॥ ਜੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਹੰਢੈ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਧਿਗ੝ ਜੀਵਣ੝ ਧਿਗ੝ ਵੇਸ੝ ॥ ਜੇ ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ਤਜਿ ਰਹੈ ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖਿ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਪਖਾਲੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥1॥

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰਵਰ੝ ਝਕ੝ ਫਲ੝ ਦ੝ਇ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਆਹਿ ॥ ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਦੀਸਹੀ ਨਾ ਪਰ ਪੰਖੀ ਤਾਹਿ ॥ ਬਹ੝ ਰੰਗੀ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ੝ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਫਲਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਰਮਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣ੝ ॥2॥

ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੈ ਰਾਹਕ੝ ਆਪਿ ਜੰਮਾਇ ਪੀਸਾਵੈ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਪਕਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਦੇਇ ਪਰੋਸੈ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਖਾਵੈ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਜਲ੝ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਛਿੰਗਾ ਆਪੇ ਚ੝ਲੀ ਭਰਾਵੈ ॥ ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਦਿ ਬਹਾਲੈ ਆਪੇ ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰਾਵੈ ॥ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ੝ ਹੋਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਹ੝ਕਮ੝ ਮਨਾਵੈ ॥6॥

dharavaesee ko jaanasee viralaa ko dharavaes || jae ghar ghar ha(n)dtai ma(n)gadhaa dhhig jeevan dhhig vaes || jae aasaa a(n)dhaesaa thaj rehai guramukh bhikhiaa naao || this kae charan pakhaaleeahi naanak ho balihaarai jaao ||1||

naanak tharavar eaek fal dhue pa(n)khaeroo aahi || aavath jaath n dheesehee naa par pa(n)khee thaahi || bahu ra(n)gee ras bhogiaa sabadh rehai nirabaan || har ras fal raathae naanakaa karam sachaa neesaan ||2||

Salok, Third Mehla:

How rare is the dervish, the Saintly renunciate, who understands renunciation. Cursed is the life, and cursed are the clothes, of one who wanders around, begging from door to door. But, if he abandons hope and anxiety, and as Gurmukh receives the Name as his charity, then Nanak washes his feet, and is a sacrifice to him. ||1||

Third Mehla:

O Nanak, the tree has one fruit, but two birds are perched upon it. They are not seen coming or going; these birds have no wings. One enjoys so many pleasures, while the other, through the Word of the Shabad, remains in Nirvaanaa. Imbued with the subtle essence of the fruit of the Lord's Name, O Nanak, the soul bears the True Insignia of God's Grace. ||2||

Pauree:

He Himself is the field, and He Himself is the farmer. He Himself grows and grinds the corn. He Himself cooks it, He Himself puts the food in the dishes, and He Himself sits down to eat. He Himself is the water, He Himself gives the tooth-pick, and He Himself offers the mouthwash. He Himself calls and seats the congregation, and He Himself bids them goodbye. One whom the Lord Himself blesses with His Mercy - the Lord causes him to walk according to His Will. ||6||

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਕੋ—ਕੋਈ। ਹੰਢੈ—ਫਿਰੇ। ਧਿਗ੝—ਫਿਟਕਾਰ—ਜੋਗ। ਵੇਸ੝—(ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ) ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ।

ਅਰਥ: ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ (ਦੇ ਆਦਰਸ਼) ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਜੇ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਫਿਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹਦੇ ਜੀਊਣ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ (ਫ਼ਕੀਰੀ-) ਜਾਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੈ।

ਜੇ (ਦਰਵੇਸ਼ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਆਸਾ ਤੇ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਵੇ ਤੇ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮ੝ਖ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਭਿਖਿਆ ਮੰਗੇ, ਤਾਂ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ ਧੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।੧।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਤਰਵਰ੝—ਰ੝ੱਖ। ਪੰਖੇਰੂ—ਪੰਖੀ। ਪਰ—ਖੰਭ। ਨਿਰਬਾਣ੝—ਵਾਸਨਾ ਰਹਿਤ, ਨਿਰਚਾਹ। ਰਸਿ—ਰਸ ਵਿਚ। ਨੀਸਾਣ੝—ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨ, ਟਿੱਕਾ। ਕਰਮਿ—ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਰੂਪ) ਰ੝ੱਖ (ਹੈ, ਇਸ) ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਰੂਪ) ਇਕ ਫਲ (ਲੱਗਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ), (ਉਸ ਰ੝ੱਖ ਉਤੇ) ਦੋ (ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ, ਗ੝ਰਮ੝ਖ ਤੇ ਮਨਮ੝ਖ) ਪੰਛੀ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੰਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਦਿੱਸਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ ਕਿਧਰੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਕਿਧਰ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ਬਹ੝ਤੇ ਰੰਗਾਂ (ਵਿਚ ਸ੝ਆਦ ਲੈਣ) ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਰਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰ-ਚਾਹ (ਪੰਛੀ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਲੀਨ) ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰੀ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ (ਜਿਨ੝ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਤੇ) ਸੱਚਾ ਟਿੱਕਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਸ (ਰੂਪ) ਫਲ (ਦੇ ਸ੝ਆਦ) ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹਨ।੨।

ਪਦਅਰਥ: ਛਿੰਗਾ—ਦੰਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਅੰਨ ਕੱਢਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੂਈ। ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰਾਵੈ—ਤੋਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਰ੝ਖ਼ਸਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਅਰਥ: ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭ੝ਇਂ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਵਾਹ੝ਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਅੰਨ) ਉਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਪਿਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਵਰਤਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬਹਿ ਕੇ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਛਿੰਗਾ ਭੀ ਆਪ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਚ੝ਲੀ ਕਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਹਰੀ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਬਿਠਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਵਿਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਪ੝ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦਇਆਲ ਹ੝ੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ (ਮਿੱਠੀ ਕਰ ਕੇ) ਮਨਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੬।
