Power of Khalsa 2

Veer ji,

Excellent video and brilliant performance; as always it is a matter of education and proper presentation; to a certain extent the fault lies with us as we do not give proper presentation of our history and to a lesser extent the education system in India. These gifts from the Gurus need to be explained in a humble and sensible manner and soon the whole world will want to embrace them.

Many thanks to bringing this to my attention; unbelievable speed and daring acts; Waheguru bakshish karan on this jatha.

PS: I have archived your messages; I hope this is OK. Hari Singhtalk 12:30, 29 August 2010 (EDT)

Thx

Veer ji, enjoyed the link very much, truly entertaining and amazing talent. Allenwalla 03:02, 30 August 2010 (EDT)

Dhanawad

Bhai Sahib ji, Sikhs around the world must, along with many others, really be enjoying this. Thanks for taking the time to keep me up.

Rab Rakha, Allenwalla 18:53, 19 September 2010 (EDT)

Never have I wish I could speak or understand what the judges had to say, if you hear of a video with sub titles in english please let me know. Who were the elder Sardars who gave the judges the framed photos of, i assume, imagined images of the 10 Gurus over the Harmandar Sahib.

Third performance was a Killer performance

Veer ji,

Indeed, an action packed show; full of wonderful talent and highly precise, fast and stunning moves - Well done Bir Khalsa Group! Also amazing comment by Sajid about the Khalsa. May Guru grant them perpetual chardikala and kaamjabee! Thanks for the link and message. Guru bhalee karan, Hari Singhtalk 09:36, 20 September 2010 (EDT)

gangu

Sardarji, are the last two sentences from the Mahan Kosh? I have read the english version (finding every mention of gangu, ganguli, ect.) by The University of Patiala and cannot find you quoted passage. Could you list your reference. Where can i find the book? I have the panjabi (gurmukhi) version, but reading it is a daunting task.

Please could you add the Gurmukhi, as well?

Prof. Darshan Singh Khalsa

Veer ji, Sat Sri Akal

Template of letter provided by professor

Many thanks for your kind message. I have read with fond reflection and with great interest what you have written and I am most grateful to you.

Veer ji, however, I am surprised that you called me a "..damn follower of Prof. Darshan Singh Khalsa". I would humbly request you to look at my contribution on this site and see how much time I spend on "the Guru's message" and compare that with the time I spend on the professor.

I think that will answer your question. Also as Gurmukh I am surprised by the choice of the word "damn" to refer to me; anyway Veer ji' that is your prerogative but I desperately hope my Lord thinks otherwise! otherwise I am in trouble!

Anyway, turning to the point that you make, I think we need to give a balanced view of the situation and not give just one side of the issue. What we have here is politics going on; there is no gurmat on either side and so I do not want to spent a lot of time on what I consider to be a useless exercise. The behaviour of each party is a disgrace to anyone who calls themselves a Sikh of the Guru; this fiasco has brought disgrace to the panth and it hurts me that the Takhat jathedars could behave in such a disturbing manner.

Considering that the professor was a jathedar of Akal Takhat, I would have thought that they would make sure that no disgrace came to the panth; it is delicate matter and needs to be treated as such. Have you ever seen the present Pope denigrate his predecessor? I think the leaders in Punjab should learn about diplomacy from the wide world.

How would you feel if Guru Gobind Singh criticised Guru Hargobind? - It would never happen - That shows how wise the Gurus were and how our leaders who are very keen to taken over the "seats" left by our Gurus but do not even understand the ABC of Guru marg! These leaders do not take the time to learn the path of our Gurus. It like a Pind da farmer becoming the President without learning anything about running a country!

I have stated my position before - Guru Granth Sahib ONLY is the Guru and I can give a lot of time to discussing this but everything else is not as important as the Guru. So please let us not spent any more time on this ugly politics while there is so much good work to do in the Guru's path.

To understand both sides of the argument please read this letter that the professor has asked the sangat to write. I agree with the point being made. Also read the other side of the controversy here - http://www.dasamgranthexposed.com/Prof.htm

Veer ji, Do you think it right to treat the Dasam Granth as our Guru? Why should the Dasam Granth be given the same treatment as our Guru? Where did any Guru give this permission to treat Dasam Granth in the same way as Guru Granth Sahib?

Please consider these in depth and please revert back and we can see how we move forward. Raab Rakha and kindest regards, Hari Singhtalk 23:56, 16 October 2010 (EDT)

A very sad day

Bhai Sahib ji, I am sure it matters little what I think, but I am terribly saddened to see the use of the word you have written today. I used that word for the first time when I was 20 years old, the first time I ever used a so called swear word, it bothers me greatly to see you of all people and on this site of all places, use such language. I asked that the page be locked, as a fairly neutral observer it seemed that the bickering was nothing more than petty politics, so please blame me.

Unfortunately I cannot read the letter you have posted in Gurmukhi, for the moment it feels as if the time I have dedicated to this site has been a waste, speaking of men (Sikhs of all people) being followers of men rather than VahiGuru. Sad! Allenwalla 00:52, 17 October 2010 (EDT)

Veerji

Dear Veerji,

You are entitled to your opinion's and judgement's. But being a Sikh of the Guru, you must understand we are all learning to know what is right or wrong. A fellow's opinion of Prof. Darshan Singh, Dasam Granth, etc. should only be for the purpose of knowledge. Not knowing the whole story inside-out it is not anyone's place to cast judgement's on anyone else.

We might be wrong in our opinion's of these controversial topic's, but we are still Sikh's of the Guru - as you are. Setting aside those differences we can still work together as Sikh's to educate ourselves further.

My view on such controversial matter's is to limit the amount of emotion that one exhibit's towards one side or the other, because one day, one's opinion might turn out to be wrong, based on the facts that are obtained. Until then, it's best to just gather knowledge from all sides.

I hope you the best.. --ਇਕਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਕ੝ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਇਕੋ ਸਬਦ੝ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ (eikaa baanee eik gur eiko sabadh veechaar.) 05:13, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

Sorry Veerji

Sorry veerji,

The article was not intended to be written "cleverly".

In addition veerji, you have misinterpreted Prof. Darshan Singh's views and character, immensely. It gives no one the right to judge someone especially if there aren't any facts to support it. You don't know half the story between the actual discussions between Prof. Darshan Singh (when he was Jathedar of Akal Takhat) and Harbhajan Singh ji.

As well, Prof. Darshan Singh was Jathedar of Akat Takhat, and he still follows Maryada as he use to, he from all people respects Akal Takhat than you, me or Sikhiwiki - I know who he is, which is why I can say this.

To be more precise veerji, Akal Takhat is a sidanth (an ideal), not a bunch of Jathedar's, Sikhi was never based on a set few to make decisions, it was always out in the open, in front of the Sangat.

In addition veerji, I am not trying to "preach Darshan Singh". I respect all individual's who follow the Guru Granth Sahib ji and help other's learn its teachings. Even if they are not a Sikh, to me, the value of the action is more than some slander I hear over some news papers or panthic.org ;)

Thank you ji. --ਇਕਾ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਕ੝ ਗ੝ਰ੝ ਇਕੋ ਸਬਦ੝ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ (eikaa baanee eik gur eiko sabadh veechaar.) 22:56, 21 October 2010 (EDT)

which mistake!

Veer ji, Sat Sri Akal

You cannot make any mistake; I know that you are wise and very able. May Waheguru continue to bless you. No need to apologise as I did not take it in a nasty way as I know that you are still annoyed and it is your anger which is "talking"; the real Lucky is always wise and upright.

I am sorry that I cannot do what you want but I hope that when you get to my sort of age, you will appreciate that balance and slow change has its advantages; also don't always listen to the loudest noise more; calm reflection and equal consideration are terribly important!

I am researching the background to how and who elects the jathedar of the Takhat and any source that you can direct me to will be very helpful. I understand that basically the jathedar is "appointed" by the political party members and as such is on their payroll; also, that the SGPC can "fire" the jathedar! Is this correct?

This is in sharp contrast to the Pope who is chosen by the bishops (not politicians) and once chosen is the "commander" of the organisation. He fires others but no one can fire him.

Any help would be most welcome, Guru bakshish karan. Hari Singhtalk 18:39, 22 October 2010 (EDT)

user account deletion procedure

Veer ji,

As with all pages that need to be deleted put the template

 {{delete}}

on the page and soon the page will be deleted or amended to fit the aim of this website.

I am sorry the user page recently deleted was redirected to another page and so when I deleted the page, only the redirected page got deleted; however on seeing your message I looked at the issue again and that is when I realised what had happened. So I don't think we need to get the technical guys involved; hopefully that has been resolved. Many thanks and kind regards. Guru de fateh, Hari Singhtalk 20:39, 28 October 2010 (EDT)

Bandi Chorr and Diwali - Different days?

Veer ji,

With due respect, Veer ji, I think you may be a little confused with the dates, according to the site here, below are listed the dates for Diwali obtained from this webite. Checking these with the dates for Bandi Chhor quoted on Sikhiwiki here they appears to be the same - So, I do not think we can say that the two festivals ".....occurs on different days". Surely they occur on the same day!

Year Day & Dates
Diwali 2008 : Tuesday, October 28
Diwali 2009 : Saturday, October 17
Diwali 2010 : Friday, November 5

Bandi Chorr and other items

Veer ji,

Many thanks for the clarification of the difference between the dates for Bandi Chorr and Diwali. I have clarified the technical aspect and the common understanding on our article and I will read a bit more on this and make other modifications in due course. I have also seen the link at http://www.historicalgurudwaras.com/Files/BandiChodDivas.php

Many thanks for your keen observation.

Facebook connect: Veer ji, this is an experiment to try to get more exposure for SikhiWiki; we have about 1.1 million hits per month and about 150,000 visitors per month - that needs to increase if we are to reach even a small percentage of the 6 billion humans on Earth!

Various sites for the possible position of the new "facebook like" button were considered and in the end this seemed the most appropriate. It does tease the user and hopefully we will get some great response in the number of new visitors and contributors.

Others: Thanks for sharing the information about Gurudwara Pehli Patshahi (Baroch) - it would be nice if we can get some dates for the visit by Guru Nanak.

Sandy Travels Veer ji - I did not find the link please could you kindly add that - looks like an interesting site!

Kind regards and many thanks for your continued help as always, Hari Singhtalk 21:41, 11 November 2010 (EST)

Sandy Travels page

Veer ji,

I too have not found anything on the page that you uploaded with a reference to Guru Nanak. I am afraid the credibility of the author is diminished when they use such "weak" material to support their research. Also looking quickly at the site of Harpal Singh Kasoor, I am not convinced of the depth of the research; I think he has good intentions and may be that there is truth in his theories but the documentation does not fully support his theories (yet!).

The important fact is that this sakhi (Guru Nanak in Mecca) is mentioned in the Janamsakhis and by Bhai Gurdas; for me that is sufficient. I think it will be difficult to find independent proof of this as many millions visit Mecca and their names are not preserved; I think Baba ji when their as a holy person and not for any other mission. Just like Baba ji visited thousands of other holy places, he visited Mecca and Hardwar, etc.

I will spent a little more time on the sites that you referred to and then revert back to you again soon. Many thanks an kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 08:36, 13 November 2010 (EST)

Bhai Sahib ji, this story reminds me of the supposed photo of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, that some Gurdwaras were displaying, unaware that the photo was actually of an Afgan, Sher Ali Khan and his cadre. I do not know if they have ever learned about the photo.

Sandy Travels - Page 97 and Mecca

Veer ji, Sat Sri Akal

Many thanks for the message. I think you are right; we need to counter some of these vague claims being made as it has a negative impact on our genuine history. I will gather material on this and make a start soon so that there is some opposition to these fictitious claims. Many thanks for you help in highlighting this site and its impact on Sikhi history; please send me any further references that you may come across. Kind regards, Hari Singhtalk 10:03, 21 November 2010 (EST)

Should I start the article?

Veer ji, It is important to maintain a balance; by all means start an article but deal with each point in a balanced way so that we do not give the impression that we are negative about people who trying to further boundaries of Sikhi. Obviously, we want people to carry out new research and that has to be encouraged but at the same time the research has to be thorough and have merit so that we can properly rely on it. So, yes by all means but please deal with each point in a methodical and scientific manner. Good luck and Guru mahar karan, Hari Singhtalk 14:58, 21 November 2010 (EST)

Just opposing something is not negative

Veer ji, No, just opposing someone is not in itself negative; if the underlying goal is noble and one approaches the subject in a constructive manner, then that is not in my opinion a negative action.

  • 1) Convert that page into text - this is great as we are properly analysing the subject matter
  • 2) Write something about sandy's travel - again this is more in-depth research and could be useful to give an overall picture of the travels
  • 3) Give misinterpretations of page used by people. yes - as a comparison so the errors can be seen; no need to dig the nail in!
  • 4) tell the right way of research. may be?
  • 5) Telling that how bad research is anti to sikhism using adi granth and dasam granth. well, just bad research can hurt genuine Sikh history and damage our image. Our history should be supported by strong credible facts and historical evidence

Let us try this article and I am sure we will achieve a good result. Raab Rakha, Hari Singhtalk 14:31, 22 November 2010 (EST)

Baba Sri Chand

Veer ji, Sat Sri Akal

Many thanks for the message; I am trying to understand exactly what has been added and taken away from the article. In the meantime, I have locked the article so that we can understand where we stand on the contents.

My short initial reading of the changes cannot reach any decisive viewpoint; I will try and spend more time in the next few days. If there are any suggestions, please post them on the article discussion page.

My general view is that Baba Sri Chand was not selected as Guru but that he was enlightened enough to become the leader of the Usasi movement - so there are merits which need to be considered. I also accept that the Guru's bard have expressed a somewhat negative view of the "sons of Nanak". I will try and revert to you in due course.

Kind regards and many thanks for your concern and determination; I am most grateful to you. Raab Rakha, Hari Singhtalk 16:38, 16 December 2010 (EST)

Selfishness at Sikhiwiki?

Veer ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

I am sorry I have been away from my desk for the last day or so. I have noted your comments and have noticed the changes to the article with great interest. I will look at the changes in greater detail and revert back to you in the next few days. Unfortunately, I have a few pressing personal tasks to deal with urgently so I hope you will allow me a few days to discover the truth and reality behind these amendments.

Having read my comments to you in the last post I must apologise to you as we have not been able to resolve the differences in this article as many issues that I was not aware of have surfaced. My understanding is that due to the popularity of our website, many people are hurt by some of the points made in the article. Although this is a hurdle which will now take some time to cross, it is a positive reaction as it highlights the plain fact that what is said at Sikhiwiki now matters!

Veer ji, I am sure you remember that time when many articles remained incomplete for months and no one would have noticed; now we have to analyse each and every line as many eyes scrutinise our words. I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

I can assure you that neutrality and Gurmat are paramount and dear to my heart and I agree with you that no one sided view is healthy for SikhiWiki. I also agree with you that the saying of Gurbani are the very foundations of this website. Please be assured that I will deal with this to the best of my ability. I thank you for your continued vigilance and support. Raab rakha, Hari Singhtalk 20:52, 15 February 2011 (EST)

Sat Sri Akaal

Veer Ji Sat Sri Akal

Many thanks for your message about the Dasam Granth. I look forward to reading some of the exciting points that you have mentioned about the new research. I am most grateful for your dedication and hard work in this respect. Hopefully, it will allow us to understand Gurmat better and in new directions which perhaps we did not see before. Good luck with this venture.

On the audio front, Veer ji the format of the keyword is:

Sound file:

[[File:WKWF.ogg|180px|noicon]]

where:
WKWF.ogg is an uploaded audio or video file
180px is size of the display and
noicon suppress the help option

File:WKWF.ogg

I believe that you need to use ogg sound/audio or video files on the Wiki. I use the free OGG to MP3 Converter (Freeware) program to convert my audio files from mp3 to ogg extension.

For more help please see: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OggHandler

I hope this helps. Regards, Hari Singhtalk 08:37, 25 March 2011 (EDT)

History of Dasam Granth

Veer ji, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh

Thank you for your message. I am happy that you are researching the above topic and I look forward to understanding a little more of the known facts in this regard.

Its good to know that you will including the screenshots (or page shots) of the sections that may be controversial; I think this is a sensible step as it will stop unnecessary disputes with people who are not familiar with the historical work.

Please be reassured that we will do our best to protect the known facts and Gurmat viewpoint and that we will not allow political and other negative elements to interfere with any topic. I am sure you have seen that in that respect we have all tried to act as independently as possible but in a humble, polite and consistent way.

The most important thing is that we promote, without fear the true ideas of our Guru, no matter if they are tough to digest and may be unpopular with the masses. I believe that the Truth has to be promoted at all times. Please have no doubt as we are on the same side as the Guru and so I am sure that the Truth will always prevail.

Please continue with your research and articles and I will make sure that we get no negative interference in this work. I am ready for the truth about this topic! Kind regards and Guru's blessings, Hari Singhtalk 07:38, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

Confused

17th Century

During this century, Guru Gobind Singh left his holy abode.

left his holy abode = means what? Left Where? As he lived into the 18th century, I am confused as to what you mean - Anandpur Sahib? Or are you talking about his death? Thanks, Allenwalla 20:37, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

Taking credit

Veer ji, I noticed oh the Nihang page you were taking credit in the photo. Did you make the graphic? Paapi seems to have taken the photos? Shouldn't he also be credited in the caption if he took the photos?

Allenwalla 02:42, 30 April 2011 (EDT)

sorry

By Mistake, I Removed that. (Lucky 03:03, 30 April 2011 (EDT))
