My side, no my side
Bhai Sahib ji, After reading the history of the talk pages and the artical itself, I (a fairly neutral observer) would be inclined to revert the page to the edit by - Revision as of 04:52, 9 June 2010 (edit)
Dilpreet Singh (Talk | contribs).

Then I suggest locking the page and putting a note at the top or bottom, like the one on castes, ect. (the blue boxes) that states there is a great deal of controvercy, ect. please at your positive and negative comments and links in the appropriate section on the talk pages.

Then put a section on the talk page for people to spew their personal hatred or post their civil comments both pro or negative.

I know little of this issue, my only wish is that the truth wins out. Reading all the comments, ect., it seems that the posting by Sunny ji, who I know is the son of a Sikh  whose support for Khalistan can not be doubted (nor can Sunny's) is most credible. When he says that the Gentleman said nothing negative about Guru Gobind Singh, I am prone to believe him.

Recently several Muslims and many Christians have been killed, because someone yelled blasphemy. Only (making up a charge) such as I saw him crumble a line from the Qur'an got the Christians burned to death. The Muslim was killed because someone who had a grudge, said he saw him crumple a page of a calendar that had lines from the Qur'an.

Hate is pretty obvious when one sees it. People act and form opinions, without bothering to check the facts.

Regards, I will stay clear of this obviously 'political' business.

About Prof. Darshan Singh Khalsa page
Hanji veerji,

Whatever is easy for you is okay with me.

A shadow page might be better, that way once I've made changes, I can send you a message. With that way, you wouldn't have to keep checking changes and I can group changes together so it's more efficient.

I won't be making changes in the near future. He's not one who cares to "auto-biograph". The information I have posted previously was when a child asked about his history during one of the camps at the academy - luckily someone wrote it out.
I'm trying to find a template of questions that I can ask him and I could post those answers.

Okay veerji, thank you for your hospitality.

Wrong Presentation by Bhai Gurdas
No one needs to vouch for Bhai Gurdas ji compositions; his association with Guru Arjan and the holy Granth is proof of his Gurmat credentials.

this version is against dhanna's own wording and guru ram dass.

Neither of our Gurus present Love in this form like Bhai Gurdas did in this Vaar. Gurus had this example, why not they gave in his bani. Why not guru performed this act, and what was problem with Guru Angad Dev and Guru Amar Dass why they Left DEVI worship? They could have perform that by HEART?

The line which you have given shows importance to Love with God not Tiraths etc. In This Sakhi what Dhanna is doing, read:

ਪਥਰ੝ ਇਕ੝ ਲਪੇਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇ ਧੰਨੈ ਨੋ ਗੈਲ ਛ੝ਡਾਵੈ ।
The brahman rolled a stone, gave it to Dhanna and thus got rid of him.

Dhanna bathed the Thakur and offered him bread and buttermilk.

ਹਥਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਮਿਨਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਪੈਰੀ ਪੈ ਪੈ ਬਹ੝ਤ੝ ਮਨਾਵੈ ।
With folded hands and falling at the feet of the stone he begged for his service to be accepted.

Dhanna said, “I will also not eat because how can I be happy if you are annoyed.”

See how dhanna is rolling around stones. No Single line is present in Granth of attaining parmeshwar using this technique and no record anywhere is present this technique of attaining parmeshar.

Dhanna is loving stone here not God. He is keeping fast.

on one side you are saying this is against gurmat on other side you are saying if i will perform all these acts with LOVE then i will surely get it. Kindly give me one viewpoint.

sir i m now suspecting on vaars, are these real or adulterated later, i haven't read such thing even in dasam granth, which is under great controversy. Dal mei kuch kala hai.

do one thing in idol worship add the point with bhai gurdas vaar: that if you do idol worship with love n devotion, or you become stubborn and leave food(but all in locve) you will definmately attain god.

or should i add this refering vaar?

regarding some recent changes
Bhai Sahib ji, as you know there are many who edit these pages, wanting to interject their views ( usually the letter (I) or I think - gives such people away. Often there are folks that state their belief and then completely negate it by their writing.

Could you please check these:

a user  has altered the Guru's banning of Halaal meat to say - to say - Meat, Fish, and Eggs (apparently Sikhs are lacto-vegitarians)

also  in the four taboos, the cutting o trimming of hair (that makes no mention of plucking or threading, styling  or permanents for women) has been changed to:

:under Rehit - 1. Cutting, trimming or any form of desecration of hair or any other body-part(s), //(this could mean fingernails could not be trimmed - and I know few people who trim any other body parts willingly (save the medical or religious circumcision, ear piercing and nail trimming, and occasional medical debridement vs death from cancer, spider bites and  MERSA)

:under  The four taboos, the hair taboo has been changed to Removal of hair (trimming and cutting is no longer mentioned, perhaps someone this person knows has their hair threaded?)

also others have changed steel to pure iron (there is no such thing as pure iron, when one purifies iron one gets steel, The Indians, long before 1400 were making steel which was exported to Damascus, hence the term Damascus steel, the technology to make the famed swords of japan also came from Indian  as well. Iron is full of carbon and makes bad swords which break easily - commonly iron is cast, many people use iron pots and pans - black (maybe this was the type of vessel used to mix Amrit by Guru Gobind Singh? However I doubt he used a cast iron sword.

I do not read Punjabi or Persian  well, would you add the correct terms - so that our readers are informed correctly?

I think I know, but not well enough to be sure. I have cast iron, bronze, brass and many other metals, however I am yet to see an iron sword or knife.

Hope all is going well with your family, have you any word of how the floods are effecting the hhistoric Gurdwaras of Pakistan? Seems whole valleys are being washed away, as if live there wasn't tough enough already.

One other point in the same page - above a user speaks to the reason of why there are no Panj Pyares that are women, then writes lines that take the other view.

I have read many peoples comments on this (across the web) most cite the old ritual belief that women are unclean during their menses as the real reason why there are no women in the Pyares or doing Seva at the Takhats, ect.

I feel uncomfortable making such corrections.

Kutha
Bhai Sahib ji, Thanks for the quick attention to the Pahul page.

Seeing the page on Kutha, I read through to refresh my memory.

In View 2:  the third line has some problems explained below.

-------
In Gurbani the word ‘Kuthha’ as well as ‘Kohna’ have been used at a number of places in this sense:

"The sinner will certainly be ruined or destroyed. (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, p.109)

The angel of death will seize and kill them."  "He (Pandit) recites the Vedas very sweetly, but he does not hesitate to kill life." (Guru Granth Sahib Ji, p.201)

In the above two quotes the word ‘Kuhat’ and  refer to killing via the Halal way. ‘Kuthhey’ simply means to kill and does not

-------

A. ‘Kuhat’ and  refer to killing  -  perhaps this is supposed to be - can  refer (or - may be used to…)

B. ‘Kuthhey’ simply means to kill and does not  (sentence incomplete)

Thanks, Allenwalla 16:44, 3 August 2010 (EDT)

When you get the chance
Bhai Sahib ji,

Reading the page - What is the Siri Guru Granth Sahib? I had some questions and rewrote a bit, but rather than make such a change, I put it here for your review. I have often read that Guru Nanak never referred to himself as Guru. This being a term used by others at a later date.

Guru Nanak seems to only use the word Guru for God (Wahiguru, Allah, the One, formless God - Kartar of all). So reading the page it seemed the line - Guru Nanak taught them to bow only before God, and to link themselves to the Guru, the Light of Truth, (Sikhs) who live always in direct consciousness of God, differed with the page.

I have written some possible below. Please let me know if this is off or if I mis understand. The added lines are taken from the page Introduction to Sikhi

What is the Siri Guru Granth Sahib?

The Siri Guru Granth Sahib is the living Guru of the Sikhs. Though the Sikhs bow to the Granth, according it the same respect once paid to their living Gurus, the Sikhs do not 'worship' the SGGS for that is forbidden – Only the One Almighty God is to be worshipped. Guru Nanak's followers are Sikhs (seekers of truth). Guru Nanak taught them to bow only before God, and to link themselves to the Guru, the Light of Truth, who lives always in direct consciousness of God, experiencing no separation.

Please advise

Sardar ji, I much enjoyed your last posting, the length was no problem. I have often wondered over the same issues as well.

This morning there have been two stories that I send on to you and the other users at Sikhiwiki. I  remembered a gentleman comparing to the  taliban, this morning, when i saw the story below:

here's a story linked to a news story on Dawn news yesterday It was the story of a 12 year old bride married to an older  taliban man, her savage treatment and brutal punishment, by men, after she tried to run away. Dawn would only show her face, slightly below her eyes. Her husband had left her for dead;  newsweek printed her on the cover last week and today she has some good news.

http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/afghan-woman-s-new-beginning-in-america-21281141#video=21281141

and i have wondered  why several Sikhs I have written to on this site, who first offered help, wanted nothing to do with me after learning i was not a Sikh, an Indian or perhaps just because i am a westerner?

Another news story today:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/afghanistan/7931655/Briton-among-eight-doctors-killed-by-Taliban.html

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/08/world/asia/08afghan.html

It is likely that they were members of the International Assistance Mission (IAM) eye camp team. Unfortunately one of them apparently had a Persian copy of the bible (a book that is supposed to be respected by Muslims, at least i remember reading that was the  Rasul's view.

Atar Singh Sandhanvalia
Veerji, correcting errors on the page on Atar Singh Sandhanvalia (mostly OCR errors - the common Karivar/kanvar, ect.) I noticed that Sandhanvalia also showed as Sandharivalia. Checking the internet there are entries for both versions. Since most are just copies of the same material - i wondered if Sandhanvalia was incorrect.

Can you help? It seems to me that hari is possibly the more correct spelling, but maybe sandhan means something as well?

Rab Rakha, Allenwalla 10:02, 12 August 2010 (EDT)

Sandhanvalia was a name i had never come across before, very surprising given Atar Singh Sandhanvalia's 'fame' was said to be second only to Hari Singh Nalwa at one time. Also so many superlative titles i had not come across before.

Opinion requested
Bhai Sahib ji, Perhaps I am just getting to old and set in my ways. Tonight I sat to see what was new at Sikhiwiki and I was amazed at some changes made today. Someone, one of the many new users added the last two days, has added several paintings to several pages. The paintings themselves are remarkable though in at least one it looks like the Mughals are all taking steroids (in the fantasy comic book style). I know that those by Kanvar Singh (Dillon?) are copyrighted.

Akali Phula Singh, Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Machhiwara‎

I have seen his art advertised as a Sikhnet sponsor. I have never seen the airbrush art of Baghat Singh (never even heard of him, but he is very talented.) What is bothersome is that the additions have  large embossed stamps across each painting (advertising the artist). In one case the caption even places the artist's names before the Sikh hero. I have no way of knowing who the user is, but I wonder if the artists are aware of this.

I know that Kanvar Singh has put the large stamps on his e-files to keep people from reproducing (stealing) his art, he is afterall selling these prints on his site. I think if he wanted to place his art in the pages he would doubtless remove the 'watermark' and take a credit in the caption, certainly he would not put his name before the hero.

Personally i find the additions with the big embossed ads to be out of place.

I certainly would love to see paintings by either artist added here, but only with the artist name added in the caption.

Is there anyway to find out if the artists are aware of this?

Rab Rakha,

another question
Bhai Sahib, I have asked Lucky ji to help, but perhaps you might be able to answer mera questions Talk:Gurudwara Amb Sahib Allenwalla 14:32, 16 August 2010 (EDT) Thanks for the response on the recently added art, my basic question was whether the artist (who had placed names to ruin the art and keep people from using their art for free) were aware of it being used on this site. I would think they would prefer it without the obnoxious label that were clearly meant to stop it being copied. Copyright issues were my main concern. Yes has to wonder how one could ever grow such huge muscles living on a diet of grain and vegetables.

Also yesterday I removed some photos that were added to a new page yesterday that included some ads for a property sales company (see history Gyani Labh Singh Bhikhi‎, you will have to leaf through the photos). Please review. Allenwalla 14:32, 16 August 2010 (EDT)

Thanks for the quick response
Sir, Hari ji, Thanks your answers cleared my mind though personally it seems a smaller less obvious mark would suffice, but then that would be easy to just cut off. I printed sikhiwiki all over the background of the maps for the same reason.

Thanks also for your take on the quote, which I had thought might be a problem in translation. As I probably have said at least once the greek - rays of light upon his head was translated to Horns upon his head in the Vulgate, the killing and torture of thousands of Jews was in some part because of this bad translation, re Moses, as some people were to spread their evil using the mistake as fact.

I unfortunately cannot do anything to correct the problem as it is on a page I cannot edit. I will remove the lines from the talk page here. Perhaps you can make someone aware of this error.

Here is the site:  http://cpedia.com/wiki?q=Sahib+Gurdwara&guess_ambig=Harpal+Singh+Deputy+Commissioner+Panjab+Sahib+Gurdwara

It begins with the line -> The stamp ran into trouble after there was a dispute between… even worse the writer of the page attributed the quote to the wrong person (Tarlochan Singh). Clicking on

the [1.32] (in blue) produced the actual article to the side:

Top Source for 1.32

The Sikh Times - News and Analysis - N.C.M Demands Withdrawal of Guru Granth Stamp

After we received a complaint, we asked the Department of Posts to respond…

*the reference was apparently to a stamp using an image of the SGGS that was planned without any Sikh consultation.

What Sardar Tarlochan Singh actually said:

Mr. Tarlochan Singh said care should be taken to ensure that a religious stamp does not hurt the sentiments of the community concerned.

This is how things get spread around, once it is printed people believe it or use it to reinforce their own views - good or bad.
