ੴ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ਪਾਤੀ ਤੋਰੈ ਮਾਲਿਨੀ ਪਾਤੀ ਪਾਤੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ You tear off the leaves, O gardener, but in each and every leaf, there is life.
ਜਿਸ ਪਾਹਨ ਕਉ ਪਾਤੀ ਤੋਰੈ ਸੋ ਪਾਹਨ ਨਿਰਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ That stone idol, for which you tear off those leaves - that stone idol is lifeless. ||1||
ਭੂਲੀ ਮਾਲਨੀ ਹੈ ਝਉ ॥ In this, you are mistaken, O gardener.
ਸਤਿਗਰ ਜਾਗਤਾ ਹੈ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ The True Guru is the Living Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਬਰਹਮ ਪਾਤੀ ਬਿਸਨ ਡਾਰੀ ਫੂਲ ਸੰਕਰਦੇਉ ॥ Brahma is in the leaves, Vishnu is in the branches, and Shiva is in the flowers.
ਤੀਨਿ ਦੇਵ ਪਰਤਖਿ ਤੋਰਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੇਉ ॥੨॥ When you break these three gods, whose service are you performing? ||2||
ਪਾਖਾਨ ਗਢਿ ਕੈ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੀਨਹਹੀ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਛਾਤੀ ਪਾਉ ॥ The sculptor carves the stone and fashions it into an idol, placing his feet upon its chest.
ਜੇ ਝਹ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੈ ਤਉ ਗੜਹਣਹਾਰੇ ਖਾਉ ॥੩॥ If this stone god was true, it would devour the sculptor for this! ||3||
ਭਾਤ ਪਹਿਤਿ ਅਰ ਲਾਪਸੀ ਕਰਕਰਾ ਕਾਸਾਰ ॥ Rice and beans, candies, cakes and cookies -
ਭੋਗਨਹਾਰੇ ਭੋਗਿਆ ਇਸ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਕੇ ਮਖ ਛਾਰ ॥੪॥ the priest enjoys these, while he puts ashes into the mouth of the idol. ||4||
ਮਾਲਿਨਿ ਭੂਲੀ ਜਗ ਭਲਾਨਾ ਹਮ ਭਲਾਨੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ The gardener is mistaken, and the world is mistaken, but I am not mistaken.
ਕਹ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੫॥੧॥੧੪॥ Says Kabeer, the Lord preserves me; the Lord, my King, has showered His Blessings upon me. ||5||1||14||

ਕਿਆ ਖਾਧੈ ਕਿਆ ਪੈਧੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
What good is food, and what good are clothes,
ਜਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
if the True Lord does not abide within the mind?
ਕਿਆ ਮੇਵਾ ਕਿਆ ਘਿਉ ਗੜ ਮਿਠਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੈਦਾ ਕਿਆ ਮਾਸ ॥
What good are fruits, what good is ghee, sweet jaggery, what good is flour, and what good is meat?
ਕਿਆ ਕਪੜ ਕਿਆ ਸੇਜ ਸਖਾਲੀ ਕੀਜਹਿ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥
What good are clothes, and what good is a soft bed, to enjoy pleasures and sensual delights?
ਕਿਆ ਲਸਕਰ ਕਿਆ ਨੇਬ ਖਵਾਸੀ ਆਵੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਵਾਸ ॥
What good is an army, and what good are soldiers, servants and mansions to live in?
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਣ ਸਭੇ ਟੋਲ ਵਿਣਾਸ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, without the True Name, all this paraphernalia shall disappear. ||2||

First Mehl:
ਇਕਿ ਮਾਸਹਾਰੀ ਇਕਿ ਤਰਿਣ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
Some eat meat, while others eat grass.
ਇਕਨਾ ਛਤੀਹ ਅੰਮਰਿਤ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
Some have all the thirty-six varieties of delicacies,
ਇਕਿ ਮਿਟੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਮਿਟੀਆ ਖਾਹਿ ॥
while others live in the dirt and eat mud.
ਇਕਿ ਪਉਣ ਸਮਾਰੀ ਪਉਣ ਸਮਾਰਿ ॥
Some control the breath, and regulate their breathing.
ਇਕਿ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰਿ ॥
Some live by the Support of the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord.
ਜੀਵੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
The Great Giver lives; no one dies.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਠੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, those who do not enshrine the Lord within their minds are deluded. ||2||

ਗਿਆਨ ਗੜ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮੰਡੇ ਭਉ ਮਾਸ ਆਹਾਰ ॥
So make spiritual wisdom your molasses, the Praise of God your bread, and the Fear of God the meat you eat.
ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹ ਭੋਜਨ ਸਚ ਹੈ ਸਚ ਨਾਮ ਆਧਾਰ ॥੨॥
O Nanak, this is the true food; let the True Name be your only Support. ||2||

ਗਣ ਮੰਡੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੀਲ ਘਿਉ ਸਰਮ ਮਾਸ ਆਹਾਰ
Make virtue your bread, good conduct the ghee, and modesty the meat to eat.
ਗਰਮਖਿ ਪਾਈਝ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਖਾਧੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥
As Gurmukh, these are obtained, O Nanak; partaking of them, one's sins depart. ||1||

Shalok, First Mehl:
ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮਾਸਹ ਨਿੰਮਿਆ ਮਾਸੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਾਸ ॥
First, the mortal is conceived in the flesh, and then he dwells in the flesh.
ਜੀਉ ਪਾਇ ਮਾਸ ਮਹਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਡ ਚੰਮ ਤਨ ਮਾਸ ॥
When he comes alive, his mouth takes flesh; his bones, skin and body are flesh.
ਮਾਸਹ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਢਿਆ ਮੰਮਾ ਮਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸ ॥
He comes out of the womb of flesh, and takes a mouthful of flesh at the breast.
ਮਹ ਮਾਸੈ ਕਾ ਜੀਭ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੀ ਮਾਸੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਸ ॥
His mouth is flesh, his tongue is flesh; his breath is in the flesh.
ਵਡਾ ਹੋਆ ਵੀਆਹਿਆ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ਮਾਸ ॥
He grows up and is married, and brings his wife of flesh into his home.
ਮਾਸਹ ਹੀ ਮਾਸ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਾਸਹ ਸਭੋ ਸਾਕ ॥
Flesh is produced from flesh; all relatives are made of flesh.
ਸਤਿਗਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਝ ਹਕਮ ਬਝੀਝ ਤਾਂ ਕੋ ਆਵੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
When the mortal meets the True Guru, and realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, then he comes to be reformed.
ਆਪਿ ਛਟੇ ਨਹ ਛੂਟੀਝ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਚਨਿ ਬਿਣਾਸ ॥੧॥
Releasing himself, the mortal does not find release; O Nanak, through empty words, one is ruined. ||1||
ਮਃ ੧ ॥
First Mehl:
ਮਾਸ ਮਾਸ ਕਰਿ ਮੂਰਖ ਝਗੜੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
The fools argue about flesh and meat, but they know nothing about meditation and spiritual wisdom.
ਕਉਣ ਮਾਸ ਕਉਣ ਸਾਗ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਕਿਸ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥
What is called meat, and what is called green vegetables? What leads to sin?
ਗੈਂਡਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਕੀਝ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੇ ॥
It was the habit of the gods to kill the rhinoceros, and make a feast of the burnt offering.
ਮਾਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਬੈਸਿ ਨਕ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਣਸ ਖਾਣੇ ॥
Those who renounce meat, and hold their noses when sitting near it, devour men at night.
ਫੜ ਕਰਿ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੋ ਦਿਖਲਾਵਹਿ ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
They practice hypocrisy, and make a show before other people, but they do not understand anything about meditation or spiritual wisdom.
ਨਾਨਕ ਅੰਧੇ ਸਿਉ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਝ ਕਹੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
O Nanak, what can be said to the blind people? They cannot answer, or even understand what is said.
ਅੰਧਾ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਅੰਧ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਿ ਲੋਚਨ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
They alone are blind, who act blindly. They have no eyes in their hearts.
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਕੀ ਰਕਤ ਨਿਪੰਨੇ ਮਛੀ ਮਾਸ ਨ ਖਾਂਹੀ ॥
They are produced from the blood of their mothers and fathers, but they do not eat fish or meat.
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪਰਖੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਿਸਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਓਥੈ ਮੰਧ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
But when men and women meet in the night, they come together in the flesh.
ਮਾਸਹ ਨਿੰਮੇ ਮਾਸਹ ਜੰਮੇ ਹਮ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥
In the flesh we are conceived, and in the flesh we are born; we are vessels of flesh.
ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਛ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤਰ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਪਾਂਡੇ ॥
You know nothing of spiritual wisdom and meditation, even though you call yourself clever, O religious scholar.
ਬਾਹਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸ ਮੰਦਾ ਸਆਮੀ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਮਾਸ ਚੰਗੇਰਾ ॥
O master, you believe that flesh on the outside is bad, but the flesh of those in your own home is good.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਸਹ ਹੋਝ ਜੀਇ ਲਇਆ ਵਾਸੇਰਾ ॥
All beings and creatures are flesh; the soul has taken up its home in the flesh.
ਅਭਖ ਭਖਹਿ ਭਖ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਧ ਗਰੂ ਜਿਨ ਕੇਰਾ ॥
They eat the uneatable; they reject and abandon what they could eat. They have a teacher who is blind.
ਮਾਸਹ ਨਿੰਮੇ ਮਾਸਹ ਜੰਮੇ ਹਮ ਮਾਸੈ ਕੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ॥

ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਕਛ ਸੂਝੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤਰ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਪਾਂਡੇ॥

ਮਾਸ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਮਾਸ ਕਤੇਬੀ ਚਹ ਜਗਿ ਮਾਸ ਕਮਾਣਾ ॥
Meat is allowed in the Puraanas, meat is allowed in the Bible and the Koran. Throughout the four ages, meat has been used.
ਜਜਿ ਕਾਜਿ ਵੀਆਹਿ ਸਹਾਵੈ ਓਥੈ ਮਾਸ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
It is featured in sacred feasts and marriage festivities; meat is used in them.
ਇਸਤਰੀ ਪਰਖ ਨਿਪਜਹਿ ਮਾਸਹ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਸਲਤਾਨਾਂ ॥
Women, men, kings and emperors originate from meat.
ਜੇ ਓਇ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਨਹਹ ਕਾ ਦਾਨ ਨ ਲੈਣਾ ॥
If you see them going to hell, then do not accept charitable gifts from them.
ਦੇਂਦਾ ਨਰਕਿ ਸਰਗਿ ਲੈਦੇ ਦੇਖਹ ਝਹ ਧਿਙਾਣਾ ॥
The giver goes to hell, while the receiver goes to heaven - look at this injustice.
ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬਝਾਝ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਖਰਾ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
You do not understand your own self, but you preach to other people. O Pandit, you are very wise indeed.
ਪਾਂਡੇ ਤੂ ਜਾਣੈ ਹੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਿਥਹ ਮਾਸ ਉਪੰਨਾ ॥
O Pandit, you do not know where meat originated.
ਤੋਇਅਹ ਅੰਨ ਕਮਾਦ ਕਪਾਹਾਂ ਤੋਇਅਹ ਤਰਿਭਵਣ ਗੰਨਾ ॥
Corn, sugar cane and cotton are produced from water. The three worlds came from water.
ਤੋਆ ਆਖੈ ਹਉ ਬਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਹਛਾ ਤੋਝ ਬਹਤ ਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥
Water says, "I am good in many ways." But water takes many forms.
ਝਤੇ ਰਸ ਛੋਡਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਨਿਆਸੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹੈ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
Forsaking these delicacies, one becomes a true Sannyaasee, a detached hermit. Nanak reflects and speaks. ||2||

Wrong lines regarding maas
ਕਾਗਾ ਚੂੰਡਿ ਨ ਪਿੰਜਰਾ ਬਸੈ ਤ ਉਡਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
O crow, do not peck at my skeleton; if you have landed on it, fly away.
ਜਿਤ ਪਿੰਜਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਹ ਵਸੈ ਮਾਸ ਨ ਤਿਦੂ ਖਾਹਿ ॥੯੨॥
Do not eat the flesh from that skeleton, within which my Husband Lord abides. ||92||

ਸੇਵ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਈ ਜਿਨਹਹੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
Those who serve are content. They meditate on the Truest of the True.
ਓਨਹਹੀ ਮੰਦੈ ਪੈਰ ਨ ਰਖਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਸਕਰਿਤ ਧਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
They do not place their feet in sin, but do good deeds and live righteously in Dharma.
ਓਨਹਹੀ ਦਨੀਆ ਤੋੜੇ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਅੰਨ ਪਾਣੀ ਥੋੜਾ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
They burn away the bonds of the world, and eat a simple diet of grain and water.
ਤੂੰ ਬਖਸੀਸੀ ਅਗਲਾ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਚੜਹਿ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
You are the Great Forgiver; You give continually, more and more each day.
ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਡਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
By His greatness, the Great Lord is obtained. ||7||

Tilang, Fifth Mehl, First House:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਖਾਕ ਨੂਰ ਕਰਦੰ ਆਲਮ ਦਨੀਆਇ ॥
The Lord infused His Light into the dust, and created the world, the universe.
ਅਸਮਾਨ ਜਿਮੀ ਦਰਖਤ ਆਬ ਪੈਦਾਇਸਿ ਖਦਾਇ ॥੧॥
The sky, the earth, the trees, and the water - all are the Creation of the Lord. ||1||
ਬੰਦੇ ਚਸਮ ਦੀਦੰ ਫਨਾਇ ॥
O human being, whatever you can see with your eyes, shall perish.
ਦਨੀਆ ਮਰਦਾਰ ਖਰਦਨੀ ਗਾਫਲ ਹਵਾਇ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ਹੇ ਮਨੱਖ! ਜੋ ਕਝ ਤੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਦਨੀਆ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਭੱਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਹਰਾਮ ਖਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਪਰਾਇਆ ਹੱਕ ਖੋਂਹਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)।ਰਹਾਉ।
ਗੈਬਾਨ ਹੈਵਾਨ ਹਰਾਮ ਕਸਤਨੀ ਮਰਦਾਰ ਬਖੋਰਾਇ ॥
ਦਿਲ ਕਬਜ ਕਬਜਾ ਕਾਦਰੋ ਦੋਜਕ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗ਼ਾਫ਼ਲ ਮਨੱਖ ਭੂਤਾਂ ਪਰੇਤਾਂ ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਹਰਾਮ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਹਰਾਮ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਉਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਮਕੰਮਲ ਕਬਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਜ਼ਕ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।
ਵਲੀ ਨਿਆਮਤਿ ਬਿਰਾਦਰਾ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਮਿਲਕ ਖਾਨਾਇ ॥
Your benefactors, presents, companions, courts, lands and homes -
ਜਬ ਅਜਰਾਈਲ ਬਸਤਨੀ ਤਬ ਚਿ ਕਾਰੇ ਬਿਦਾਇ ॥੩॥
when Azraa-eel, the Messenger of Death seizes you, what good will these be to you then? ||3||
ਹਵਾਲ ਮਾਲੂਮ ਕਰਦੰ ਪਾਕ ਅਲਾਹ ॥
The Pure Lord God knows your condition.
ਬਗੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਪੇਸਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਬੰਦਾਹ ॥੪॥੧॥
O Nanak, recite your prayer to the holy people. ||4||1||
