The Khalsa Jatha, British Isles, London was formed in the year 1908, to promote religious and social activities among the Sikhs who had settled in the UK. Later in the same year it was affiliated to the Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar. In 1911 the Jatha acquired a house in Putney (South London) for a period of 2 years. The opening ceremony was performed by Maharaja Bhupindra Singh of Patiala. In 1913 the Jatha bought the lease of 79 Sinclair Road, Shepherd Bush, London. Where the Jatha remained for 63 years.
From 1931 to 1950 the Khalsa Jatha made good serving the still small Sikh community. In 1953 weekly diwans started and in 1954 a full time Granthi was employed.
As funds were raised, the Jatha purchased a building known as Norland Castle, Queensdale Road, London, in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and in 1969 the Jatha moved into the building where the Gurdwara now stands. The domes were added in the early 1990's while a further programme of refurbishment began in 2000.

For hall booking, please contact Sardarni Gurvinder Kaur Chawla at the Gurdwara on Wednesday or Sunday from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Booking will be made subject to availability of halls against payment of a fee of £151.00 payable by cheque or cash against receipt. The booking will be confirmed and a copy of rules governing the use will also be supplied. Please ensure that you strictly follow the timings agreed upon to avoid any inconvenience to the party concerned or to the organiser of next programme or the management committee of the gurdwara sahib.
Gurbani Tapes
Recorded tapes of Shabad Kirtan, Shabad Vichar by the famous visiting Ragis and complete Siri Guru Granth Sahib ji are available on Wednesday’s or Sunday’s during the Diwan times from the Tape Room.
Sunday Punjabi School
Punjabi lessons every Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. New students are always welcome.
Kirtan/Music Classes
Music classes are held from 7 to 8 p.m. every Sunday. Alternatively you may book a different time classes in a group of 4-5 students to learn from the visiting Ragis. For booking contact Bhai Chatar Singh ji or the General Secretary. A nominal fee is payable to the Ragis.
