November 24 marks the 330th anniversary of the Martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadar and also the inception of the Guruship of Guru Gobind Rai. The Tenth and last of the human Gurus became the head of the Sikhs at the age of 9 years. Guru Gobind Singh was born Gobind Rai on 22 December 1666 at Patna, in Bihar. At the site of the house at Patna where Gobind Rai was born and where he spent his early childhood now stands a sacred shrine, Takhat Sri Harimandar Sahib (also called Takhat Patna Sahib) one of the five most honoured seats of religious authority. Guru Gobind Singh was formally installed Guru on 11 November 1675, before his father set off for Delhi to meet his predicted fate.
