I have written this article as I had never heard of the organization. I have read all I could find on the internet.

Started by Bhai Kanhaiya, the order has, on its web site and old sakhi, that I have never heard before.

That when Guru Gi created the Khalsa adding the 5Ks -(rather than Kirpan they use talwaar {shastardhari (carrying a sword)} , that Bhai Kanhayya began to wear a talwaar. Asked what he intended to do with the sword, Bhai Kanhayya said:

I shall offer my sword to any attacker so that he will not have to even remove his own.’

I believe he was a man of his word who saw himself, his Guru and anyone who would attack him as (himself). I think he would have rather died than hurt another had he been sent out with a sword rather than his water bag.

Seeing God in everyone even those who might attack you is a hard thing to do. I think that is the philosophy of the Sevapanthis. Education and educating people, even those who might be ignorant (of many things) seems to be what they are about. Since he would have preferred to die at another's hands, I doubt he would have attacked anyone, even someone who spoke hurtful words (if swords were not hurtful how could words be) that they would have spoke to him in ignorance of his beliefs - I would like to think that he would have shared his views and made a friend if the other was willing. Maybe I'm wrong I am only human - one of God's creations.

I have probably made errors in this article, I'm sure it could be better, this is an open invitation to all of you to correct this, as the little line says below-- all contributions to SikhiWiki may be edited, altered, or removed by other contributors. Mistakes can be easily corrected.

As I understand that Sikhs generally consider anything to to with Sikhi un-copyrighted - I have used other websites for reference, trying not to copy and paste - if that is even an issue.

I have only noticed noticed one person making a change to anything I have written here, probably because that is the only time I ever looked, it was in my first few days when I added a link to an article on a Guru making cord for cots. Once someone thought a word I had written on a particular organization was a little strong and contacted me.

As those of you who know me are aware I love all languages and hold below as Rumi says:

Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving.
It doesn't matter.
Ours is not a carcvan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow
a hundred times.
Come, yet again, come, come.

I read, on the site of someone who I would love to have known, like me he had studied Persian, Sanskrit, Arabic, ect. and was wishing to start Urdu as I have been studying with my Muslim (Hyderabadi) friend. His resources were, I am sure much better than mine, but if he owned a Monier Williams or a Goswami Punjabi-English Dictionary, I doubt he would have the pages worn anymore than mine. Unfortunately he died at an early age. He like the earlier Masters of his order and some later have wished that their teachings and work were better known in the west (in English particularly). In that spirit that is why I have written this page and that is why I have spent so many hours editing here.
