Task and To-dos for Building SikhiWiki

SikhiWiki is just being developed and we need your help to actually brainstorm and organizing the website. Feel free to add to this list or just comment. Click on the "Edit" or "Edit this page" at the top to give your input. Content & Editorial

• CATEGORIES - Ideas needed for coming up with a Hierarchy of Categories for organizing the topics. Some people will do searches...but we want to have a browseable category list (with subcategories) so that people can go through the articles without having something specific in mind.

• CONTENT - We need people who can help in a variety of ways. There is a lot of work to be done to get the base of the website started.
  • Collect Articles which can be posted online (and get written permission if necessary)
  • Add individual articles to website.
  • Cross link related articles.
  • Add pictures to articles
  • Add sound and other media to articles.
  • Categorizing all articles for easy browsing and organization.

• CONTENT RESOURCE - Different sources which we can use to get starting content for the website.
  • The Sikh Religion - Volume 1 - by Max Arthur MacAuliffe.

• MODERATORS - Find and setup list of individuals that are committed to this project and willing to spend time adding content and reviewing content that others add.

System Related

• NEWS - Investigate setting up RSS Sikhism news feed on Main Page. You can't use javascript or standard HTML so this would have to be done somehow on the backend.
• SPEED & PERFORMANCE - Setup and test various caching methods. [1]
• DATA BACKUP - Setup automated system for doing daily backups of the MySQL database and all web files (through FTP?).
• DOMAIN NAME DNS - Transfer SikhiWiki domains to SikhNet DNS server NS.RACKSPACE.COM and NS2.RACKSPACE.COM
• DOMAIN NAME Admin/Registrant - Transfer SikhiWiki domains to SikhNet godaddy account (and change registrant). So legally domain is under the SikhNet organization.
• Finish customizing these pages: Boilerplate_request_for_permission AND SikhiWiki:Copyrights
• CSS Underline link problem - The default seems to have changed - underline links. I figured out that when you are not logged in the underline on navigator links is not there. When you login it default "underline links" (in "Preferences" - "Misc Settings"). We should have it default to "no underline"
• WEBSITE SKIN - Move the current customized "Monobook" theme to unique named theme "SikhiWiki" so that when upgrades are done that it does not get overwritten.
• STATS TRACKING SCRIPT - Add javascript code to all pages for Urchin web statistics. HTML to add: <script src="/__utm.js" type="text/javascript"></script> - DONE
• CATEGORY SELECTION - In order to facilitate the organization of the articles we should provide a drop down list of categories that people can select. So if they create a new article they can easily select one or more categories for that article. Otherwise most people will not put a category..or it will require someone else to categorize it at a later time.
• DONATIONS - Finish writing up content for Donation page

• LINK IMAGES - Create a set of images and HTML which can be downloaded and used on other Sikh Websites. Also be able to do a search.

Centennial Foundation Launch Tasks

• POSTER - Large posters or banner of website/logo for display to draw attention to the table. Depending on layout could have poster size image held on a display stand. Or if the table is by a wall...we could post it up on the wall. Other options are a banner on the front of the table hanging down.
• TABLE - Table, table cloth, small plastic display stands for donation forms, etc.
• GIFT BAGS - Find out if they are giving out gift bags and see if we can include the SIkhiwiki card.
• TABLE INFO - Find out if we can put a short article or something on the middle of the table about SikhiWiki.
• SPEECH - Strategize what to talk about and presentation.
