Task and To-dos for Building SikhiWiki

SikhiWiki is just being developed and we need your help to actually brainstorm and organizing the website. Feel free to add to this list or just comment. Click on the "Edit" or "Edit this page" at the top to give your input. Content & Editorial

• CATEGORIES - Ideas needed for coming up with a Hierarchy of Categories for organizing the topics. Some people will do searches...but we want to have a browseable category list (with subcategories) so that people can go through the articles without having something specific in mind.

• CONTENT - Once we get a general idea of the categories we can start adding content to the website. At this point it would be great to invite other scholars and people who might be able to help with the initial starting content. We will need people who are interested in overseeing content that is added and keeping an eye on things as a whole.
  • Copy Wikipedia Content - As a starting point we could copy some of the Sikhi related content from Wikipedia Sikhism Section and Wikipedia:Category:Sikhism

• MODERATORS - Find and setup list of individuals that are committed to this project and willing to spend time adding content and reviewing content that others add.

• LANGUAGE OPTIONS - It would be good to investigate setting up other languages (Punjabi/Gurmukhi) at least as an option so that Gurbani can be inserted easily into the English pages and used wherever needed. It might be a later project to actually have a whole separate section of SikhiWiki in Punjabi.

I'm currently working with WikiMedia to get a Punjabi translation of the interface available. Hopefully you should be able to use this when it's complete. I didn't personally do the translation, but I'm making sure it's included in the CVS. If you need any help with this project please don't hesitate to give me a shout. I give general support on the PCRC forum.

Thank you for your help Sukh! With Sukh's help we setup "Punjabi" as a language option (Preference then Interface Language). He is also going to create a "How To" for setting up your computer to be able to type Punjabi/Gurmukhi, (ੴ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ ਪ੝ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥) which can be used for entering content into SikhWiki. See example

System Related

• NEWS - Investigate setting up RSS Sikhism news feed on Main Page. You can't use javascript or standard HTML so this would have to be done somehow on the backend.
• SPEED & PERFORMANCE - Setup and test various caching methods. [1]
• DATA BACKUP - Setup automated system for doing daily backups of the MySQL database.
• DOMAIN NAME - Move domain SikhiWiki.com to this server.
• Finish customizing these pages: Boilerplate_request_for_permission AND SikhiWiki:Copyrights
• CSS Underline link problem - It appears that after a while the links on the navigator have underlines. They should not show the underline unless you move your mouse over. When I logout and then view a page I haven't been to...and refresh it seems to start working again.
• WEBSITE SKIN - Move the current customized "Monobook" theme to unique named theme "SikhiWiki" so that when upgrades are done that it does not get overwritten.
• CATEGORY SELCTION - In order to facilitate the organization of the articles we should provide a drop down list of categories that people can select. So if they create a new article they can easily select one or more categories for that article. Otherwise most people will not put a category..or it will require someone else to categorize it at a later time.

Gurdwara

I've just noticed that in the category section there is Gurudwara. Should this not be Gurdwara without the 'u'? "ਗ੝ਰਦਵਾਰਾ" Sukh 09:14, 5 Mar 2005 (Pacific Standard Time)
