In March 2009, the Sikh Student Association of AUA College of Medicine took up a project with the support of the Catholic and Methodist Church in Antigua to feed the needy of Antigua. Once a month the Sikhs of AUA exercise the concept of Seva and Langar into their daily lives, while educating the public about Sikhs and who they are. The initiative was started by a few and grew to be the major seva project for the Sikh Students Association of AUA.

This project has been recognized at the University by both students and faculty as an exemplary way of giving back to the community as future medical doctors, but for the Sikhs of AUA it focuses on their personal spiritual growth as striving Gursikhs as well. Currently the project is being funded by individual Sikh students who are members of the Sikh Student Association of AUA College of Medicine. A grant was applied for by the SSA of AUA, but was denied on the basis of 'Promoting Religion' by the Dean and the Dean of Students at AUA College of Medicine. As a result, the members of the SSA have been funding the project on their own as their way of contributing to society and giving their share of Daswand.

The Sikh students are in need of any help that any one can provide to support this project so that more food can be prepared for the needy.
