In the Guru Granth Sahib various numerical digits appear which represent the succession of Gurus. For example on page 14 is the line: ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ The digit 1 here represents the first Guru, Guru Nanak and is pronounced "Phala" meaning "first".
