During his journey towards the south state, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, while passing through Nagpur, Balapur, Akola, Amrawati, Hingoli reached at Basmatnagar and took rest for few days there.To across the river Godavari Guru Ji reached at Brahmanwada Ghat (where now a-days stands Gurdwara Hira Ghat Sahib Ji) and then reached at Nanded.


Basmat nagar bilok bisala. Tis ke nikat sivar ko ghala.

Door ke ner suneh gur aaye. Sikh ho huteaan darsaye.

Bearer of the kalgi (plume) and the lord of both the worlds shri [[Guru Gobind Singh ji]] Maharaj started from Punjab and reached Rajasthan. While passing through Nagpur, Burhanpur, Akola, Amrawati, Hingoli later he reached Deccan in 1708 where he stayed in Basmat Nagar. The beauty peace and tranquility of Basmat compelled guruji to camp here. The natural beauty of flower gardens and fruit orchards so enraptured guruji that he camped at this scared place for eight days. Hearing of guruji's visit sangat came from long distances to have darshan and blessings of guruji and also brought in large donations. After camping here for eight days guruji head for Nanded where stands our historical Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar sahib as testimony of guruji's visit to Deccan. In memeory of this sojourn of guruji Gurudwara Damdama Sahib has been built in Basmat nagar.
