Gurdwara Sahib Shahidan is a wonderful historical shrine located at Ladhewal in Mahilpur in Distt Hoshiarpur. This shrine is dedicated to Sahibzada Ajit singh, the elder sahibzada of Shri Guru Gobind Singh jee.

History

Acc. to history, The owner of village Basian was Hakim Zabar Khan. He always do zulam on hindu people and he used to snatch the doli of hindu girls and rape them and do bad bad things.

There was a poor Brahmin Name Devi Das who lived in village Jaijon. Hakim Zabar Khan took away his wife to his palace. The Brahmin was sad hearted and wept before the qazis and other Religious leaders, but nobody cared. Sad from every person, he went to guru gobind singh at Anandpur Sahib and prayed before him.

When Guru Gobind Singh jee heard the story of Brahmin Devi Dass. He send Baba Ajit Singh with 200 Singhs to punish Zabar Khan for his many crimes. That evening Sabizada Ajit Singh and the Sikhs attacked Bassi village. With the battle won the Sahibzada had Zabar khan tied up, sending him with some of the Sikh soldierd to anandpur sahib. He also had the wife of Devi Das returned to her worried husband.

The Sahibzada stayed at the village of Basian that evening, to tend to the wounded Sikhs and see that preparations were made for the ceremonies and cremation of the Sikhs who had died during the fighting. Their bodies were cremated by Sabizada Ajit Singh in the early morning. Then Baba Ajeet singh and the remaining Sikhs left for Anandpur Sahib.

In the remembrance of Baba Ajit Singh and the Shaheed Singhs every tuesday the jorh mela is organized and every tuesday in jeth (third month of the year in Punjab - corresponding to June/July) an amrit ceremony is held at Gurdwara Sahib Shahidan.
